  • (Bloom night May 20, 2024) The other day my husband said 'hey come see this!' He found a little cluster of tiny Cereus babies hidden at the base of the plant! Now, C. peruvianus/repandus are not known to be self fertile and I've never seen a fruit on this plant. My theory is before we got it, it crossed with another plant at the nursery, fruited, dropped seeds, and they waited to germinate for some reason. I'm guessing they're at least 3 months old. How neat is that!

Sometimes they have a light fragrance but not this time 🤷🏽‍♀️

Holy smokes! I have the same cactus, and I’ve gotten blooms each year but never that many! And I’ve had it for prob 3 years now (got it as a 3ft cutting) and it still hasn’t spit out any pups. I was starting to question if they will only produce if they are planted in the ground. I’m in north east Oklahoma so I don’t think it would do well planted in the ground here so I leave it outside until it’s blistering cold (so it will for sure go dormant). Are you using your soil mix with the turf in it? Do you fertilize?

I think yours just needs to mature a bit longer. Smart letting it go dormant! The soil is a mix of organic and drainage materials like turface and expanded shale.
