I knew all along our season would be decided in large part due to what happens in June and July. I remain optimistic, but undoubtedly next year this team will be VERY different no matter what. LFGM!

Jerry has it right. Trade for pitching now, and if they fall apart, you can flip before the July 30 deadline. Hell, go get Jack Flaherty if possible, and you might actually get an equal or better package than what you give up.

The umpires absolutely beat some fault because of their inconsistencies with how they’ve handled símil situations. He didn’t know what it was, so give the player the benefit of the doubt and have him wash his hands. He ought to know that it’s a 10 day suspension and this can completely derail a team in the middle of a wildcard race. They let a Yankees pitcher go in and wash his hands in the same exact situation. I think MLB wants to protect their golden boy and their golden boy team from being embarrassed these next two days. If it was Shohei Ohtani or Cole, I would guarantee that they would’ve handled it differently. You’d have to be brain dead to think Ohtani didn’t have anything to do with the gambling with all that money being lost. If it was Senga, he probably would’ve been thrown out of baseball for life.

_[WARNING: Pessimism/realism ahead.]_ Winning even two of these next five games is going to be extremely difficult. The pitching matchups strongly favor the Yankees in both games, and then they have to play the surging Astros for three. The Mets’ offense isn’t going to stay this hot forever, and can only prop up their very mediocre rotation for so long (and Marte just went on the IL). They’re also going to be playing a man short for the next 10 games, thanks to Sugar’s suspension. Yet, if they want to stay in the race, they really have to start pulling ahead now, because the schedule gets much tougher after July 22, and other teams will get hot. Plus, I doubt Stearns will buy at the deadline unless they’re solidly in contention. So I’m not optimistic (I rarely am), but then again, I really had no expectations for this team.

@@Vanden_Vanden Indeed they are. Here’s my thought: they should go get someone like Jack Flaherty (and maybe a reliever) NOW. Don’t wait until the deadline. Take advantage of the soft schedule, try to separate themselves from the pack, and if things go south over the next month, they can flip whoever you’ve acquired at the deadline, and recoup much of the prospect value they’ve traded. The bats can only carry the pitching for so long, so why wait for them to cool off, especially when the pitching staff is shorthanded? If things go well, they could eventually have a top four of Flaherty/Senga/Severino/Scott for the stretch run and beyond, which is WAY better than Severino/Quintana/Manaea/Megill, they’d have a credible six-man rotation if needed, and they can move guys like Megill and Peterson to the bullpen, where they’d add some sorely-needed length and depth.

If we take these two from the yankees , we're at .500!

True, but that’s not a very likely outcome. A split would be nice, but Peterson and Manaea vs. Cole and Gil? Yikes.

Glad you guys brought up the betting side of these sticky stuff ejections. I've been saying that since Max got ejected... The team has now earned the right to stay together in my view. When things were bad we couldn't really say anything about trading guys last year, but these guys are playing hard and for each other and then you are going to yank someone or some of them from the team? I don't like it and I think if done wrong could tail spin these guys to a go nowhere season, where at least for now, we have wildcard hopes and possibly more... Stay cool out there guys! LGM☮🧡💙⚾🟣
