Those explosive bangs during the thunder, is the thunder breaking the sound barrier!!! The thunder from a +CG lightning strike, is so intense, it breaks the freakin sound barrier, which results in: Explosive thunder
You been getting storms every night. I checked the radar in Sydney now and y’all got a massive thunderstorm on going. That seabreeze came in and BOOM them Thunderstorms blew up! Awesome lightning video btw. I enjoyed watching it
Awesome. These storms are really starting to pack some punch. Unfortunately I will miss out this summer because the border is still shut for UK tourism.
Yeah this season has been in my top 3 best my entire 15 years of living. Hope everything gets back to normal mate. Thanks for stopping by though. Here are other Aussie chasers you should maybe check out if u want. ozthunder Michael Keene
I think the 2:16 strike was also positive, although it sounded like it had a low peak current. The way you can tell a lot of +CGs and -CGs apart is when the loudest thunder happens. If you hear relatively softer crackling and then the boom happens, this usually means -CG. If the thunder is very sudden, it's probably a +CG. Even though the 2:16 flash isn't too loud, the thunder still hits pretty suddenly. There are exceptions, though I'd say 90-95% of strikes I see follow this rule. The physical reason for this difference is that -CGs tend to have many branches and +CGs tend not to. Therefore with -CGs you hear the closer branches before the main channel. --Chris
@@RaptorJJ1234 not really tbh. You just have to be at the right place at the right time. This is a awesome storm season whereas 2019 was terrible. I guess u can say sydney is one of the best places in Australia for storms though.
5:37 amazing
Hey that was positive strike with a smooth channel. Great Catch

Nice video! Lovely those bangs from the two positive strikes !!
Thank you, I've never been scared like that 🤣. Was not expecting it.
If I was in a thunderstorm with just this type of lightning I would be excited
This storm you were filming this is what I consider the extensive positive region

Fair enough Chris thank u for that info. Looks like u have good knowledge of storms which I am trying to work on personally 🤣.
I'm just surfing the web right now, but as an aspiring meteorologist and storm chaser, this helped me with telling the difference, so thank you.
Wow amazing
The forecast is for storms and possible heavy rain today.
Indeed
@@SouthSydneyStorms don't know about your end, but in Liverpool side it was a bit of a dud.
