    IMPORTANT NOTICE
These exercises are for building up endurance and need to be performed strictly as described!
All exercises are to be done only per day. Choose the easiest variation for you. Only do as much of the exercise as is comfortable. DO NOT FORCE, EVER!
    THE SIX TONES
    1. Tap your foot 1+2+3+4+ throughout the exercise, with a clear up and down movement.
The reason is: one muscle controls all other muscles. Because of the foot, these exercises are played sitting.
    2. Breathe through the nose only (to ensure that the embouchure doesn‘t move).
    3. Keep the mouthpiece on the lips throughout the exercise. The embouchure shall remain in its position even during the bars of rest, only the pressure can and should be removed, so that the blood circulation refreshes the lip.
    4. The first note of each exercise is always played with a breath attack (B), the later notes attacked (T=tongue)
    or slurred, as indicated.
    5. Always, before each exercise and during the bars of rest, breathe out two beats completely (!) and inhale two beats.
    6. Keep the flow steady, play always at a medium dynamic level.
    7. Repeat the exercise 3x, then rest for a few minutes before playing the "Seconds" or your next exercises.
If you are a beginner you might just play the "Six Notes"
    THE SECONDS
For a specific high-note training repeat the exercise after a short break.
Another variation is to continue after 10 to 15 seconds where you stopped,
because the power did not last, or no sound came out of the instrument.
Always complete the interval you started to play, even if no sound comes.
Thus you prepare the muscles to play these notes maybe tomorrow or later on.
    LONG TONES
These long tones are not in Caruso's book but I include them in the video as an additional exercise to build-up endurance, steady airflow, and develop your tone quality.
Play the long tones after you have rested a bit.
Use breath attack to find the center of the tone easier.
Concentrate on maintaining a steady air stream.
If you feel tired don't force and take a break.
Building up endurance takes time! Never force! If you start feeling uncomfortable stop and rest.
Taking breaks is essential for the lips to recover.

I wish I had read the comments first but surely the piano is only there as a reference to play along to as they are tedious without. I do lip buzz for 5 mins then do this whole routine. Why is the first note breath attack? and on the long tones I take my horn off my lips. I am a comeback after a lay off of 42 years. I was never able to play high register stuff (above G above the staff) with any confidence or authority. After 6 weeks on this routine I have just played my first E above tope c with a big tone not just a squeak. Best thing I have ever done on a trumpet is this exercise, I just hope i am doing it right. Thanks.

If it works for you just continue using it.
I personally use scales to expand the upper register. And for endurance I use the 6 tones and the long tones exercises.
I think the key is persistence. If you stay focused and do this long enough you get results.

Wow! That's really great to hear!! Congratulations on being able to get up there. I'm going to keep trying this and hopefully I should be able to reach good results as well. Best wishes!

Only thing I would say is that when you do the Six-Note Warmup is that you only play it 2 times instead of 3. This is the way I was taught from someone who studied with Carmine

Piano is useful for pitch - substitute for drone box.

@@TrumpetRecords i studied with carmine for 6 years these concepts are for endurance and breath control. As well as stamina in the upper register. No offense but demonstrating them on piano dosen't do this justice at all its misleading. Taught properly they work well taught improperly could ruin a brass player permanently.

@@pasqualegallo8234 I have clearly stated that in the description. These are indeed exercises to build-up an endurance and breath control. With or without a piano if played incorrectly these can harm one's embouchure, and the opposite to help build-up endurance.
Instructions are from Stоckhousen's book: The Basic Caruso. Also, there are a lot of additional video examples on YT showing in detail how to properly play Caruso (Julie Landsman for Example.) I don't think I am misleading anyone to play Caruso improperly. Playing with harmony and a click track won't do anyone harm if they know how to play correctly these exercises.

@@TrumpetRecords Pasquale Gallo doesn't know what he's talking about. I'm sure Caruso is fine with what you are doing! By the way, I am loving your channel. I have been looking for piano accompaniments for Trumpet solos for a long time. I do have one request can you do Arban: Caprice and Variations accompaniment? I would very much appreciate it. I am very appreciative of your work.
