    Great detail, I like how you present content "as is". You presnt as entirely natural and knowledgible. Shit happens at work all the time but you don't edit it out., adding realism and credibility. Lots of these diesel tuning vids show you the before and after graphs, but you're one of he few who show how you got there. Keep it up, I'll be talking to my Patrol mates about your solid technical knowledge and how you so easily communicate it. You're small now in the YT community but have the potential to be much bigger (if you want to be). Excellent channel!

      @@DontCallMeGarage they will do that if they have low case pressure. This can happen from sending the main fuel screw all the way in, or if there is a supply issue. You can try adding a electric lift pump and holding 2-3psi fuel pressure at the IP. Obviously I don’t know your set up, or pump, and you need to be careful when giving them pressure as it can push through the pump and fill your sump with fuel. So you need to be mindful and aware of the risks. But if a be pump is pulling dynamic timing, it either has an issue internally, or has low case pressure from a restriction or the pumps just maxed out.

    just a quick question im looking at a 16g turbo and cross country intercooler for my td42 just wondering am i better off with a 12mm pump or 11mm pump, not looking for heaps of power just better fuel eco and a bit more power and torque on 35 too?

    • @boostedsagas884
      @boostedsagas884  2 роки тому +2

      Is it a factory 10mm pump now? If you where buying a pump, I’d go a modded 11mm, good for 180-200hp. Which is probably the limit of that turbo. Most 12mm pumps are built and designed for 200hp+, and don’t really respond well when trying to turn them down. So best off buy the pump that’s built and designed for the power level your chasing.

  • @FJaypewpew

    I know it’s different,4bang vs inline6, but I’ve heard a 4jj1 can go around 200 horse with stock, I’m not chasing that I think it goes alright as is BUT I’m wondering where the best upgrade is to help it breathe you know? I get probably the exhaust helps, but you might be the first bloke I’ve seen to mention the scoop on someone’s bonnet with regards to tuning
    Idk why that struck me but it’s got me thinking and feels like everything running cooler is a plus

    • @boostedsagas884
      @boostedsagas884  2 роки тому +2

      The 4j’s are great at handling combustion temps/heat. Hence they can handle some decent power in stock trim, at much richer AFR’s then a Td would survive on daily duties. As for the 4J, good exhaust, upgraded intercooler, is a great place to start. Do these mods and a tune, will get you some great reliable gains. Then if you want to go the next step, you’ll be looking at +30’s, and then a turbo. With all these mods you’ll easily go 250+ no sweat.

    Just wondering if you tune IDI diesels, and do they offer any advantages like better V.E. over the direct injection engines.

    • @boostedsagas884
      @boostedsagas884  6 місяців тому

      TD42’s are IDI. Most mechanical pump diesels will be IDI. I’d have to say Direct Injection would be “better” it’s the reason we went direct injection, and common rail. Higher pressures, allow for better atomisation of the fuel, cleaner burn, more complete burn. Better control on timing etc etc etc. all depends what you think is a advantage. Some people would rather old school, some love new school.

    Awesome video mate. Whats the ideal afr for a diesel?

    • @boostedsagas884
      @boostedsagas884  2 роки тому

      Ideal, will depend on what your trying to achieve, and what engine combo we are talking about. If your trying to make as much power and torque as possible, most will run around 15:1-16:1 on common rail. Drag set ups can be lower again when not running nitrous. An old Di engine like a 1HD-T needs an AFR of around 23-25:1 otherwise they can be quite smoky and run high egts leading to common engine failure. Most common rail tuning for touring sets up we like to stick around 20:1. But again, engine combo, intercooler, crd or Di, vehicle weight and intended use, all these things come into during the tuning process.

      @@boostedsagas884 thanks for the detailed reply mate. I've got a 08crd patrol that I have fitted an exhaust and a tillex kit on and with the stock ecu on 16psi it runs between 18-19:1 and if I turn the boost to 19psi it runs just above 20:1 but the stock cooler becomes as hot as the sun so I'm trying to work out where is ideal to run it until I can upgrade the cooler and find someone I can trust to tune it here in Melbourne

    • @boostedsagas884
      @boostedsagas884  2 роки тому +1

      @@Fletch889 essentially, lower the AFR, the higher your combustion temps. The higher the number, the “safer” it is in terms of lower combustion temps. Diesels are lean running engines, so there no such thing as too lean, they essentially just stop making power due to limited fuel. So you’ll see when your coasting Along it can be as high as 30-35:1 when part throttle cruising (assuming your egr is turned/blanked off)
      I’d happily run your thing at 18-19psi, some will go into limp mode much above 17-18psi, so run it up a big hill holding some boost into it and see how I goes. If you loose power, cycle key in and off, lower boost down and try again. If it doesn’t go into limp, run it around that 18-19psi. Should keep it cool and happy while you do all your upgrades.

    • @boostedsagas884
      @boostedsagas884  2 роки тому +1

      Unlikely to be injectors. Do you have a lift pump? What’s the current power level, and what pumps on it?
      We have made 300hp on stock injectors.
      Not many TD42’s making much over that. So I doubt your injectors are the problem.

      Pump is unknown but when I bought the took it because it was running rich and he could turn down enough I got a hpd extreme intercooler to get the EGT down . And it made 115kw at 14 pis on the stock turbo. Then I upgraded the turbo ufi 18g and fatz air box with 4 piping and got a retune and it made 174hp at 17 psi and that whent he sed he can turn it up more but its not getting any more fuel

    • @boostedsagas884
      @boostedsagas884  2 роки тому +2

      @@isaacwatson2510 that doesn’t make a lot of sense. There’s either more fuel left in the pump, or there isn’t. If he is just winding in the fuel screw but it ain’t making any more power, then The pumps outta fuel. And the tuner should know this. Adding a lift pump will help, and any performance pump should already have a lift pump. But at 170 odd HP, injectors, turbo, airbox or intercooler will not likely be your problem. I’d say your just out of pump. Most “cheaply” modified factory 11mm pumps can get around the 170-180hp mark. I’d say that’s likely what you’ve got.

    A couple of things, maybe block/blur things like rego plates and customer names. As vehicles that regularly apear on YT channels with mods that are either illegal or dumb, publicising them can have blow-back. A good example was a local kiddo with his Kettle powered Patrol ute, thought it was everything of IT and a BIT, went on a YT channel showing it as built and not bought, huge tyres, lift, headlights, other lights, rolling coal, you know, those things that wallopers love to ticket you for. Oh and of course, it performed very much ordinary. Vehicle was taken off the road and most of the mods undone or removed.
    As for the TD fan-boys, usuall pit-falls. Too much fuel, not enough airflow (not boost ya muppets), timing out on some and of course, low power number for all the money and noise. Another freebie for ANY Patrol of LC owners, Top Mount Inter-Coolers (TMIC) will never beat a FMIC or a water/air setup. Stop wasting money and time on TMIC if you want these to perform well.
