Love it when Alan gets a question from Joey and can't give him an answer, just says "I don't know" or "I have no idea", no pretending to know everything, no bullshit. A rare trait amongst experts these days.

ha ha - it was funny but I took exception. All that judgement from Tony made him seem way more pretentious and judgemental than the people who actually shop there.

Being able to say " I don't know" separates Thinkers from 'thinkers', the Albert Einstein's from the Cliff Clavens. Nobody has all the answers, least of all those people who insist that they do.

my brain exploded. It blows me away how Alan just rattles off those names. I dont know why but these fungal vids are like some kind of great drug for me: got to come back to this one a few more times just to try to digest more of it while my brain explodes just a little more. Thanks so much to the both of you for this series.

Seriously, I so agree, it makes my brain explode too. It's amazing. There's so much complexity to the information and it just makes my mind blow up and want to learn how to fully take in all the layers of science that they are explaining. For me, I understand the science, it's just the name's, the Latin genus names I just cannot wrap my mind around them. It's baffling to me.

Thank you so much for putting the name written on the screen. Helps heaps in learning how to say the latin words, and connecting the verbal to the written. Excellent video, and amazed at how similar fungi are found in NZ forests, even though not a redwood in site, but very similar fungi. Most likely different species due to distance / genetic drift etc. But visually very similar and same genus etc.

I've never been able to get myself interested in the terminology of mushrooms before, even though I love them (the way I love my cats, not the way I love a good venison steak). But YOU GOT ME!
Sometimes, as a teacher, you just don't know what that thing is that hooks a student in, or unlocks a difficult subject--this time, as the student, I don't know either. Joey, you helped me to get interested in those terms, those mini-structures the terms apply to. This is going to help me move up to the next level of understanding 'shrooms, THANK YOU! I can't even say what it is about this vid that opened that door, removed a mental block, but it worked. I'll be rewatching this, and reading about mushrooms, and rewatching this again. And since people insist that I teach them about mushrooms, I'll be able to share even more cool stuff about them!
