I've had to replace shingles and flashing where people used silicone instead of tar caulking. The starlink is very intriguing good to hear you can get those speeds out away from the city 👍

With adjustments. Smart... Someone in Nairobi could not afford $125 per month or even close. So Costa Rica monthly is set per the avg monthly income. Internet search your country for monthly cost... Starlink publishes country monthly cost. (Costa Rica hardware package is $500).

I really wanted something I could use for home but also take with me traveling with our camper. Last year the came out with the RV version and I've really been thinking about getting it. I can work remote full-time and it would be awesome to travel 4mon out of the year.

I'm curious what the power/energy is for these ranging from low (no heater, no scanning). up to full on. Also, if you can power it off , say during the day when nobody is home, and then powered back up without any (re)connection issues. Go oilers! (from Edmonton. ;))

I was considering it for my home. The initial cost and monthly payments unfortunately were higher than other competitors who also gave us faster speeds. We ended up going with T-Mobile Internet though. In our area, we were seeing around 100mbps down and 20-30mbps up. That was about 2 years ago though. T-Mobile added a bunch of 5G towers in our area, and now we see 500mpbs down and 80-100mbps up. All for $50/month with no data caps or bandwidth throttling, and no contract too. Didn't even need to switch our phone carrier to T-Mobile either. But we aren't in a very rural area, so we had options to go with. I know my old home didn't have anything beside dial-up, or very expensive satellite internet ($250+/month) that wasn't even that fast. This is the best option for people out in places like that. Basically as long as you have a good view of the sky, you are good!
Oh yeah if I could get that type of 5G in my area I would be 100% down to just do that. We could have upgraded our Telus thing but only told we’d get up to 50Mbps download and it was $140 a month and that came with a data cap. The Starlink is $120 a month and here in Canada we get taken advantage of with this stuff compared to our neighbours to the south. Even cell service we usually pay about two to three times per month compared to US providers. Cheers 👍

I watching this video through Starlink too... this thing its amazing. All the way south of Mexico (Chiapas). The thing i dont like about it its the "type C" thingy in the cable. You cant use some conduit or something to protect the cable.
Right on. Yeah that is a really good point. The install could be so much more professional and have better options if you could run the cable through conduit.

We had one of those Telus LTE modem/routers and they were garbage. I don't know if it's a network limitation or just bad hardware but had that exact same issue with multiple users. Could stream 2 HD movies at once no problem but if someone was scrolling on their phone it would basically kill the connection for everyone. Starlink has been a million times better. Had a couple days at -40C out here without a blip, but I have the original round model. They place nice with the Ubiquiti Unifi hardware if you want to have a better Access Point and/or shoot internet over to the shop.
$110 USD for residential use, no monthly cap... with not warrantied speed. BUT, in my case, i have better latency and almost the same speed that used to have back when i was living in my hometown with a hard line internet connection(regular, not optic fiber)

If you had 20mb/s download with the telus ZTE modem, maybe you only needed a new router and use that device as a modem. You will have double NAT, but I doubt you had a private public IP on mobile network anyway so it probably doesnt matter. Modern mesh routers are day and night compared to what was before.
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Internet bandwidth is usually measured in Mbps (MegaBits/Second). MBs (MegaBYTES) is usually used as the amount of storage data something uses/occupies. To understand how they can be converted between one another, remember this: 8 bits (valued 0 or 1) is equivalent to 1 byte (which is smallest amount of bits that can contain useable information to a computer). If you want to download 100 MB file, and have an AVERAGE download bandwidth of ~100 Mbps, it would take ~800 seconds to transfer the data, ignoring any dropped packets or other transmission related inefficiencies. EDIT: Thanks for catching and pointing out the error in my writing. 8 seconds is the correct time, I was half asleep when I wrote this comment and I didn't even catch it.
I've been considering buying one of these for a while since my house is way up in the mountains and can't get any service, barely any phone signal and want to install security cameras in my house that I could monitor when I'm not home, my question is where can I buy the whole thing?
Around our house we don’t need one at all. Upstairs and the basement get excellent signal and even out in the lawn. It is the most powerful router we’ve ever had.
There's really only two things keeping me in the city. Fiber and commute times.. Which sucks as I desperately want out of suburbs. Having neighbors just sucks.
It’s worth the sacrifice trust me you can still get all the necessities if your not deep in the woods even then you can come up with alternatives for power source.
Question: does the dish continually follow satellites, therefore requiring continuous power? And am assuming that is 110v ? I run solar in Northern Ontario and a simple 12v system although i do have a 175w inverter for laptop.

The internet where I am only offers 3 maps download. I've ordered starlink now I'm just waiting.

with a 100 mbps connection it takes 800 seconds to transfer a 100mb file? math isn't mathing, it takes about 8 seconds if it's stable 100mbps

It was 2 weeks from when we ordered it to when we got it. They were good about sending status updates and tracking info so that was nice.
Looked into this at my house and it’s not available until next year apparently in my area, but will look into it when it’s up and running

Yeah it does require continuous power. And it will constantly self adjust as needed. I’m not sure what the power draw is in it though.

The heater that is built in melts it when it detects snow. We just had 6” overnight and no issues at all.
