what they do is say "buyer didn't pay" then card gets relisted. eBay has no teeth
Shill bidding is still rampant as of today on ebay. I just bid on every item in one guy's shop and I was "magically" shill bid every single time.
I haven’t and haven’t known anyone that has been subject to immediate pay yet.
In 2024 they need to remove "private bidders"
If you don’t have the funds until later all you have to do is add a eBay gift card or visa gift card as payment that has like $1 on it. You can accept the offer then you get a message payment failed and you can pay within the window

I think that this is a good move and it will not stop all shill bidding but it will start to weed out people unable to really buy the card. Its unfortunate for sellers to get the notifications that the card sold and then the buyer backs out on the choice they made. So if you want the card be sure to have the amount you are willing to pay.

This is absolutely TERRIBLE.
A. I buy as much as I can that makes sense from one seller. Saves a ton with shipping and lowers median cost overall.
B. There are sellers who are big consignment sellers or international sellers I buy from often and they give you either 4-7 DAYS to combine shipping.
Shit, DCsports even runs 3-4 hours of ending time auctions per night and good luck getting ahold of someone there. You buy 30 cards from them in a night and you’re looking at $150 in shipping?? That’s an absolute joke.
I am assuming consigners will have a different approach or that 1 hour window will allow for the combined shipping to auto work? A lot to still unpack and understand on this one.
If history has proven anything it is that people will find a way to cheat. The system will change the rules to try to rid the cheating, the cheaters will adapt and find another way after they've made the new rules. Thats just how it goes. A little time to study the parameters and rules and someone will find a away around it

You can tell when a seller uses shill bidders by seeing if the winner of the auction has many bids on the seller's other items because they're in on it together!

I just was in a bid and saw that someone was Shill Bidding me up during the last 3 minutes. Shill bidding is alive, and bad for selling.

All it takes is 2 people using automated sniping tools. They charge something like a 1% fee. As far is that goes, it doesn't matter what method they use, as long as they pay for it in the end it's fair game. If you were willing to pay more, bid more. I'm guilty of regretting not going a bit higher on some myself, but there were times where my last second bid was still 30% less than the final. One I recall recently was a 1999 Bowman's Best Rookie Class Atomic Refractor. Huge run-up in last 30 seconds.
The only thing I see some of these shill bidders doing is using a credit card or even a one time use card that won't have enough room on it for said card and I'm sure you have so much time to update your payment method. They will probably just use this time to cancel and relist.
Hate to be negative on this, but the shill bidders will certainly almost always find a way to keep bidding up their stuff. Hopefully e-Bay manages to find a way to mitigate this, though.
Yeah I think that’s entirely logical. Someone else commented that there are virtual credit cards now so that complicates things even further.
Shilling is alive and thriving. Pretty sure I was a victim the other day when something jumped from 12-66 in a second. It was not worth 66

I like the idea but I’m not sure how this stops shill bidding. If the shillers have an hour window to cancel they will certainly use that. Like you said, how do they police this ? I have thought for some time that buyers should be paying the selling fees. The buyers get all the protection without any financial responsibility. Meanwhile, sellers pay the fee, but are the always on the losing side of disputes. Buyers premium is a thing at most major auctions. Why is eBay different ? If you win an auction on eBay , you can cancel, but you have to pay the associated fee with the final price, and sellers get $2 relist fee let’s say.
I don’t think they have an hour window to cancel, I think eBay just takes that long to process it. I presume the sale is locked from the buyer perspective
Hi Dan, did I hear you say it would be up to the Seller to implement the pay within an hour, or did you hear that EBay will do this for every auction. I usually submit offers and counter offers on Tues and Wed, if it’s accepted by the seller I send a message that I’ll pay Thursday morning before 10AM EST. This new rule would be lousy for me, but will have to adjust what I do I guess
Offers is already in effect and it’s up to seller to turn on. My understanding is that this is eBay testing making immediate payment mandatory for auctions. I was speculating in the video as it’s not yet confirmed
Change the title of this video to eBay tries to stop shill bidding. Because it won't last or work.
I love it, shill bidding happens too often and legitimate buyers often look elsewhere when this happens. Frankly any market correction it causes, just means it's the real value of the card. I'm a believer if you have to rely on things being sold to pay for what you have purchased, you probably have the order of things back to front anyway.
In my opinion, this news, along with the news from about a week ago that Market Movers was wrong on the pricing of cards, from Geoff's mouth nonetheless, means card prices will continue downward. It's absolutely something for the good, because it should have happened when they asked for a payment method with BIN purchases. The scammers and shill bidders need to go away, or this hobby will never be right.

The only problem I have with this is it will be difficult to do combined shipping on orders. I take advantage of that a lot but sometimes auctions end a day or two after I already won one. Or, if it’s a bunch of Buy It Now listings that I want to combine, the seller rarely responds to the invoice request within an hour.
I think that’s why they have the one hour window? Perhaps they auto combine shipping?

@@DanTheCardMan2 it’s an hour. I commented already on it but most bigger consignment sellers give you 4 or 7 days to continue buying and combine shipping. If you’re a volume buyer you’re talking about HUNDREDS of dollars in shipping if you’re getting charged every hour and just hoping a seller refunds it? That’s absolutely awful.

I honestly couldnt care less about shill bidding. I have the price ill pay, and if someone over bids it, then so be it. Theres literally millions of other cards I can buy instead
this has been around for a long time, anyone can turn it on, it doesn't stop shill bidding.

This does not end shill bidding at all. It has no connection to shill bidding. Someone shill bids on 10 items of the seller and wins 1 or 2 and pays for them and then the seller relists them a month ago. WHile the other 8 that were shill bid had their price driven higher and the unsuspecting buyer pays more than they should have paid due to the shill bidder
They’re hoping it’s a deterrent to people shilling if they are forced to pay when winning

It is but it isn’t. You can input any card you want. It doesn’t have to have a set amount of funds on it so even if it’s preselected payment if they don’t have the $ available it’s still sold but you’re not paid and waiting.

All seriousness, I love the payment option before I submit an offer. Saves me a step if my offer is accepted.
I agree they are on the right path and long overdue. Shilling is nothing but phantom bids. It's only purpose is artificially raise the price on items that are nowhere near their true market value.
It should help quite a bit, especially with the auction houses that list on eBay. If they're the ones that are diligent at blocking non payers (shill bidding, nearly every time), it'll definitely lower instances. The shill bidders won't be able to just 'not pay' and burn a zero feedback account as easily due to having to set up a new payment every time they want to attempt it.
SCR is getting bags from Goldin and others. Colin is definitely in on the AI pump. It’s funny when people become watchdogs to get paid to shut up.

Just curious but did you get my message on eBay/post office screwing people over with shipping? Because I want to quit eBay because they take my money from me straight out of my account even though it's been deposited and I know I'm not the only one there has to be other people out there that send cards through economy shipping with that stupid unidentifying tracking number

well....a few thoughts
1. combined postage. this will impact pple quite a lot like me who like to buy multiple items from the consignment seller through a few days. the postage paid for each item will add up to quite a bit if ebay force us to settle payments within 1 hr.
2. deter shill bidding? i am not so sure of that. the consignment shill bidders will always find ways to go round the system. maybe yes for the 1st month of rule implementation while the shill bidders find ways to counteract it
3. auction cancellation. sellers can always cancel the auctions which they do now immediately after the shill billed auction has ended. what is ebay going to do about these? they cant remove the cancellation as there are genuine buyers or sellers with valid reasons to cancel it. to me,

I'm sure you didn't intend it, but your thumbnail makes you look displeased at the death of shilling. Of course one way to remove shilling from your auctions is don't sell by auction. They suck for sellers anyway, at least on eBay. There are exceptiions of course for certain hard-to-get cards, but generally speaking auctions are better for buyers.

Watchdogs get respect for pointing out truth. When do you see through what they do here in ‘merica. Watchdogs that become silent upon payment are not really watchdogs and SCR probably gets a weekly credit on Goldin as payment which is why they buy there.
Goldin is laundering drug money and SCR got a bag to promote them. Prove me wrong

If I'm buying from the COMC account, can I use COMC funds?
What they should do...is put this stuff into place until someone hits 100 verified payments, item received, feedback left.
Once you're at 100, the restrictions get lifted. Of course, like everything else, lets punish everyone for the small minority.
That would be the sensible approach as you say 100 verified payments/transactions..... I've done well over 1500 (as a lot probably have) without a single issue but we are all now subjected to this crap from eBay
I agree. I don't like not being able to use my PayPal account when doing these. Especially with bigger purchases because I some times use the PayPal option to Pay in 4 to help spread the amount out instead of having to take a big hit all at once. With these features you can not do either. Currently when I put in for a Best Offer, I just put a card that doesn't work in. Then once it doesn't go through, I go in and pay for it through PayPal. Which this way is how people to get around this. They put in a card that is already maxed out or has only a dollar in the account, then when it goes to process it won't go through. Except for Ebay having a hold put on the amount on whatever payment they are using until the auction is over there will always be a way around it.

@@straight.cash.homie_cards I use PP Credit too ion big purchases. 0% financing is a no brainer, even if you have the cash to buy it outright.

I would like to see something in place that requires a person to have a legitimate business to resell, like proof of LLC. The flippers and the mini gambling rings need to go. I love gambling like an adult, but not with trading cards . I have to go through at least 3 levels of distribution and then deal resellers because distribution isn't only distributing. Anything selling spots for what is gambling should not be allowed on ebay. My concern about card policies are they affect the rest of eBay that doesn't sell cards.
I honestly think something like that would be very detrimental to the platform. The whole benefit to eBay is the ease of access etc. it’s a good idea though
@DanTheCardMan2 Before, when they had SRP on boxes, there were laws in place to keep from price gouging . They need to implement some kind of limit to flipping. Double and triple price because they hord all the supplies is bullshit. I remember there was a time when you could only get so much profit on things like event tickets. At least in the past, it was that way. Everyone is a seller with no business skills or knowledge. Some formal training is needed in cards. The scammers, flippers, and gamblers need to be removed by forcing legitimate business and enforcement of local gambling jurisdiction laws. Shill bidding is done by resellers. No one wants to be strictly a distributor business. It's all conflict of interest. Either you mine for gold or you sell the supplies. Selling the supplies is the safe money. They all want to open up the cards for me at an outrageous price. Remember, shill bidding became a problem with PWCC on eBay. Consignments ruined eBay for cards . ComC and dcsports87 are 6 weeks behind. That's how little actual collectors sell on eBay and how flooded the market is from everyone, mainly selling. Some basic laws need to be implemented. This wild west of cards where things that aren't legal anywhere else become legal because its cards can't continue and ebay should be liable for allowing illegal transactions like selling spots and price gouging and all the other fraudulent listing practices they allow.

I am 100% with this immediate payment. I had a few winners not pay and even not pay when they themselves sent me an offer and I accepted.
It wont get rid of shill bidders, there are easy ways around it for them and you mentioned one of them.
Genuine buyers suffer when eBay doesn't wont to do the work to get rid of the scum shillers. .... combined shipping is now abolished.... time to leave the Hobby
Just to add to this, I do a lot of player breaks, a lot of the time there is more than a one hour gap for when a player's listing finishes.... again combined shipping gone
