I'm the collector who did the Photoshops you showed in the video. Just found out about this video a few days ago from @greystreetsportscards . I could have done a lot more photoshops to make my point seen more, but I think Topps got the point and everyone online agreed with me. I really do love Topps and have since I was a 8 year old getting 1988 Topps football in kindergarten in 1990. I made a choice around the early 2000s to keep the focus of my collection Topps Chrome and for the most part I've stood by that even to the point of boycotting Panini when they took over exclusive licenses. I finally caved and started doing Optic only as a Chrome replacement a year or so ago, but point is I'm a big Topps fan. Despite that I'm as concerned as everyone else about Fanatics and this is more reason to be concerned. I love Topps, so I criticize Topps when they do wrong, this was my example of that. We can only hope for the best. Though I'm not sure the community of collectors mean a whole lot to them when it's still selling out and crashing the website.

Breakers and dealers can't say anything bad about topps. Topps has bullied them and said don't talk shit or we won't sell you product. The 2023 composite football unlicensed is at $350 a hobby box already. 4 current rc qb's on the checklist from last year and the rest is retired players. Thanks for the video!

I didn't buy because I thought it was double the price it should be for unlicensed. I could have ordered as late as 130 pm 90 minutes after it listed. It did sell out but nothing like sapphire did. With tax and shipping that's 300, look at checklist it's all one chase card , Lebron. I think it looks terrible. Glad I passed
while it didnt sell out til 130. cases sold out in 2 minutes and then the website was broken for the next 1.5 hours. I know lots of people trying to buy boxes and just couldnt checkout

Panini has been doing this non license for years, i never bought this and never will, you show a victor card with the team's logo on it without the logo it is nothing. there is a reason why the teams have their own logo's, it is what makes up the NBA, or MLB, NFL this is just about the $$$ for card companies.

Unlicensed, I'm not spending my money $$$. Collectors Do Not Buy this garbage! These are not Topps Chrome. Leaf cards in Topps Chrome box. Breakers are pathetic. Prices are ridiculous. Cards look ridiculous. Just not interested in buying these cards.
These unlicensed products not only hurt the actual licensed product, Fanatics is risking the NBA/PA getting use to multiple revenue sources ($$$), and the hobby accepting, the unlicensed option.
While it would be great to have multiple licensed options, I don't see Fanatics giving up their upcoming exclusives.
Panini will likely just swap roles, save $ on licenses, buy up a few of the top rookies and duplicate the same hobby frustration.
Frank is a very passionate Topps Chrome fan. I can say I have seen first hand the collection he has in person and know that this is something we both talked about. We were optimistic when the announcement was made, especially since we haven't been very big Panini fans. Thank you for spreading the word on this. Only can hope we see change come from this.

It is a bad move from Fanatics to push out a mediocre product like this. It's like buying Leaf products.
In a post a made on Instagram not a SINGLE person said this was good nor did they come to rubins defense. This product is now tarnished Rubin has no loyalty or financial loyalty to the past. He flip flops in his actions he doesn’t truly care about the hobby it’s all a cash grab for him. What’s really sad is I’ve received over 20 dms by people all saying thank you for speaking up on this matter but “we can’t because I don’t want to lose my future allocations” end quote…clearly the monopolies Rubin has made hurts everyone,the collector & consumers in whole suffer because they gave this locked down. We as collectors must voice our opinions loudly and especially via our wallet by not buying into this mess. This product is sold out but by who? I guarantee it’s 90% breakers that have this coming and are going to of course pump it for a week or two and then it all winds up in bargain bin boxes within the week. Refractor love to the hobby
They should have made a Topps chrome archives for this set, exactly how Topps archives 1993 basketball was. The design for this set looks like their other bootleg unlicensed sets they already put out. Leaf must have shilled out a lot of influencer dollars because unlicensed cards are not holding value.
The hypocrisy among card companies are just the way they work and we allow them to dupe us. Its amazing how some one like wild cards can have unlicensed cards that look great cant sell very well, but Topps can sell out in minutes because they are Topps. The hobby needs to make up there minds and hold every company accountable for this or no company. This is the only way to level the playing field for all cards of value. Im new to the hobby but i am seeing fast that we have allowed our power to slip in the wrong direction.
They should have just used the 2024 chrome baseball design for the base cards.
Or even the 2023 Chrome design which they used for 2023-24 Topps Chrome OTE basketball that came out yesterday, and for 2023 Topps Chrome McDonald's All American when it came out a year ago. Using it for 2023-24 Unlicensed basketball only makes sense. Base card design isn't that bad though, it's the fact that it looks like Finest with all the shapes and colors in the background and they chose awful photos to hide unlicensed nature.
I avoid unlicensed products like the plague. Value's just not there. And if you're going unlicensed Leaf is the way to go. It's kind of weak not to have the logo on the card for your favorite player's team.
"Pajama Party" cards aren't my thing at all. If someone likes to collect them, I certainly don't hate on them because they can "sometimes" be pretty cool looking to a certain degree & I'm definitely not going to tell someone else how to spend their money. BUT to see people crapping on Leaf, Wild Card, Onyx, etc for years and then all of a sudden they're willing to carry the flag for an unlicensed product just because it's manufactured by a multi billion dollar company is as hypocritical as it can get. The "hobby heroes" hyping this product should volunteer to work the Fanatics corporate office restroom glory hole. 🙄

Another great video! Card companies are terrible and putting black colors on edges. Plus dull blades cut rough edges....pumping out billions of cards. Prices going down big time.....who cares about quality
Fanatics will soon be a publicly traded company. So they must find ways to make money. They have Lebron and Victor under contract and are just simply using "Topps Chrome" name to take advantage of that. You said the cards immediately sold out and prices climbed. It is not the product, it is the chance to get these autographs. If those autographs were not in this product it would be $99 a box. I think going forward post licensing you will see a sharp rise in product cost to collectors.
Topps doesn't give two shits what people think. They only care about money, and seeing how they got the new age money printer, they'll do what they want. So long as there are dumbasses giving these companies their money, this won't stop any time soon...

Yea, it's expensive. I didn't mind the Finest they came out with a few years ago because it was cheap and really campy. You are right about breakers and influencers changing their stances on unlicensed product. Not surprising, because Fanatics is more than willing to punish anyone who says anything negative about them.
The thing that is confusing is they already have the Topps chrome basketball blue print from doing chrome McDonald’s all American and Chrome OTE. All they had to do was that. This just looks like a shitty version of finest

Are we really complaining about the images on the cards? This isn’t new. They have made questionable decisions with players images on their cards for a long time. Look at Curry’s Topps Chrome RC. So trash but people still pay a fortune for it. We need to just focus on the price point! $300 preorder! For an unlicensed product?! The only cards that are going to have value are the autos. And that’s only a couple players that matter in the autos. Non autos will have no value. Why pay a premium for an unlicensed Wemby parallel when you can get a panini licensed one? But until we collectively boycott this crap and take control of the market it’s just going to get worse and worse for collectors. Thanks for the content!

Bro, I'd ponder that Topps is banking on the 'possibility' of getting a Wembanyama, Lebron, Brandon, or Scoot autograph to drive consumer interest. Why spend any additional effort on making an aesthetically sound product? Logic would suggest that some of the first (breaker bound) boxes will have a few top autographs in them. That will keep the excitement higher for a time before we all realize the true value of the product.
These companies should really take some design ideas from hobbyists. Some of us have graphic design backgrounds and could make a stellar looking card. Just have a contest. Give us some shots of a general player to work with and watch us shine.
I understand the hype around those players but do it under some other product. Don’t market it as the return of Topps chrome and then dish up something trash

Serious question..are every day collectors actually buying unopened product anymore? To me it just feels like topps and panini have completely given up on collectors and all we're witnessing is a bunch of shills and gamblers just jerking each other off and then selling back and forth to each other. I feel like topps and panini are offering absolutely nothing for the actual hobby.

Not a fan at all. If they wanted to benefit on the Victor Wembenyama Rookie hype they should have released an all Wembanyama Hobby/Blasters box as Panini did for Caitlin Clarke.
It's sad but perhaps all Fanatics has to do to succeed is employ an army of influencers to hype things up which ensures that anything they produce will sell, even the crap like 2023-24 Topps Chrome basketball. And this is before they start on their main stream advertising campaigns. It's depressing. I should buy a Panini soccer album and put stickers into it as therapy. Cheers Dan.
Topps OTE Chrome looks better than this set
That RC Logo looks cartoonish and those cards look bad making me think we are going to miss prizm/optic/select and all the inserts hope they pick it up before more people get out
Just started to collect soccer/football cards a couple years back. Im working on last year topps chrome and I have enjoyed it very much. This year's topps chrome uefa looks like they tried to hard on the inserts and the price is not for your average Joe. So disappointed with topps chrome uefa this year.
I don't like rehashing iconic old sets from 30 years ago. Nobody wants a 2024 rock stars insert, they want the original from 1997, even if 2024 was licensed. Unfortunately there's just a lack of new ideas.

I'd disagree. I love it when Topps uses classic designs or redesigns of the classic designs with new players and I'm not the only one which is why Topps keeps doing it in all sports from Baseball to F1. Topps does it in almost every product. Lets take basketball. 2021-22 Chrome OTE had 1969-70 insert designs, 2022 Chrome McDonald's AA had 2006 McDonalds design inserts, 2022-23 Chrome OTE & NBL both had 1972-73 insert designs, 2023 McDonald's AA had 2007 McDonalds design inserts, new 2023-24 Chrome OTE has 1976-77 style design inserts. 2000-01 Heritage used 1971-72 design for base cards, 2001-02 Heritage used 1974-75 design for base cards etc etc. They've even done it with classic car Topps designs in F1 inserts the last 4 years. The problem is not the base designs or inserts being used, it's the lazy/quick/rushed photo selection & bad airbrushing making unlicensed obvious and the fact that it doesn't even look like Chrome with the colors and designs in the background, it looks like Finest.. They could have gone 1970s Football style even and done sideline headshots on the bench and it would have been better than this. It just comes across as a lazy cash grab.

The OG rockstar is my favorite insert of all time, this new one ain’t it though. Never gonna be unable to see the new “pawn stars” font now that you pointed that out. Also the die cut just seems lazy compared to the old. Assume they added the exploding rocks and what not to avoid additional unlicensed players in the background. All around major let down from Topps.

It could have been amazing for non licensed...but they didnt make it happen for this product. Love the Wemby auto. I want to see more, the imag is so important when airbrushing logos...I still stand behind you do not need a license to show a player in there work uniform that they are forced to play in.

The right thing would be if Panini and Fanatics got along somehow and could both do licensed auto cards. Fanatics is a monopoly, so there's no "right thing"

I am surprised by how few people understand basic things. No one should care what cards look like , especially insert cards. These are sports cards and not art. License or not, this will be the only product that has Wemby RC pro autos and has Lebron autos. So for intelligent people who have financial sense , they know this product is completely different from some worthless Leaf product.

This is a quick / cheap cash grab that will make them a lot of money with the licenses they have. A Fanatics style move, not a Topps move. Topps has been owned by many companies, I doubt Fanatics will be the last. The masses being critical of this should be a wake up call, but it probably won't be because they sold out and crashed the site. But it will be known for the history of "Topps Chrome", that this set is a flop. You can't say that about Topps very often.

They could have dressed it up where the unlicensed nature on the cards wasn't obvious just like I did in my photoshops Dan features. But they didn't because quick cash grab.

Always an interesting video. Can someone tell me why people are shocked? Give it a couple years of course it will look better once the licensing. I hate the NBA, imo it's trash. Not a fan at all, but no need to freak out on design. Of someone likes it, buy it. If you can't tell that someone is "up-selling" you or hyping an item, it's you that needs help. Adults and self accountability needs to be mentioned here more often. Just don't buy it. Move on, move to another product for that money. But can we please stop all the hyperbole of how good or bad a product is before it even releases? Lets peep them in hand. Check the hit rates. And chase big rookie autos. No real collector believed the pajama jerseys would look amazing. This set is going to be all about the autos this year. Once licenced we should see sets line up more like the flagship sets that come out. Relax eveyone. Its one set.
