  • Time to rain test coleman tents! We are rain testing colemen tents to see if these coleman tents will hold up to wind, rain and thunderstorms. The coleman rain test will include the Coleman Sundome Tent, the 6p coleman cabin tent, the coleman 10p darkroom cabin tent and the coleman pop up tent are each being subjected to an intense rain test. For this coleman tent rain test I selected various styles and sizes of coleman tents to see which models of coleman tents are best suited to stormy conditions.

    I love this video! I'm a wildland fire fighter who stays in tents for up to 21 days at a fire. Seen all kinds of weather conditions being out there for almost 3 months. And let me tell you the importance of a waterproof tent like the coleman instant tent shown on here. Thanks for helping me confrim the tent I was looking at! And it doesn't need a rainfly.

    New to your channel. Arrived here because of your Coleman tent reviews. I bought the Coleman 6-person Instant Cabin Tent in January. I put it up for the first time about two weeks ago, and have left it up all this time. It's been through a significant amount of rain (not with me in it yet), but I have noticed some leaking. Like the 10-person tent, it seems to leak right in the center of the bottom of the windows, and I have had some seepage in two of the four corners. The center of the tent, however, has always been bone dry. I wish the sides were able to be staked out so the side walls did not bow in slightly. I consider the leakage minimal, and when I do my sleep test, I'll probably use a cot to stay off the floor and sleep in the middle. Thanks for your videos.

    • @LoneCrowAdventures

      The other thing you could try is applying a silicone seam sealing spray on the exterior or the tent along the seams where the window and tent body meet. Normally you put seam sealer on the inside, but these sections come factory seam taped so the sealant can't be effective on that side. I've had success seam sealing some tents from the outside this way. Hope that helps!

      Coleman uses an inverted seam that is completely on the inside of the tent (between the bathtub floor and the tent body) so need need to seam seal there. I did not seam seal this tent. I don't think there is a reason for this tent for at least the first season.

      @@LoneCrowAdventures It this many months later and I love my sundome. I ALWAYS get stakes from WM instead of using the included baby stakes. I've got the cabin tent, too, which I told you on another video I don't care for the door zippers or the rainfly (which I'm going to modify). I did use it in sub zero conditions and it stayed pretty warm without a heater.

    I’m going to do serious camping in the near future in Baja, where gusts can reach 50mph. Last time I did it I wasn’t expecting it, brought a tall tent and collapsed at 3 AM. I recently got a smaller Alps Mountaineer Lynx 2 which had really good reviews for rain and very high winds. Wish me luck lol. If you could do a review of those it would be greatly appreciated, is a tent that lots of people have and rave about it. Thanks for the video.

    • @LoneCrowAdventures

      Smaller tents (4 person and smaller) with full peak to ground full rain flys do the best in wind. Avoid anything that has a awning like the sundome. We got some wicked winds in a 6 person Eureka dome tent while in New Mexico in 2019. (Tent had a full rainfly) and this helped to keep it steady during those high winds.

    I use a footprint under my tent to help protect the floor, always seam seal my tents and spray the fly and tent body with a silicon spray. Also the stakes that come with most tents are nothing more than paper clips on steroids. I use "MSR Groundhog" stakes. They don't bend and hold tents down more securely.

I love your expressions and how you explained everything! Thank you so much for sharing this, I’m about to buy my first tent and it’s going to be a Coleman and I wanted to see how it would stand up to the elements. I’m not going to be camping in the snow lol, maybe rain, but definitely not snow, ha at least i hope not! 😮 I live in Colorado and the weather changes frequently. • @LoneCrowAdventures
      @LoneCrowAdventures  Рік тому +1

      I spray all my tents with a a dwr annually after the first season just to make sure. I don't spray them the first year because generally most manufacturers have good waterproofing from the factory for that first year. Simple!
    You just put 14 strong binders (medium and big) on Rain Fly from Coleman tent. It can hold the rain fly as strong.
    I just put the camo tarp (8 by 10) with 14 strong binders on rain fly from Ozark Trail dome tent (8 by 8) before rain and wind. It works and no rain drops in 8 by 8 dome tent. An old woman saw it all. She said Jens has more experience. She learned from Jens Williamson, III. It happened at Goose Island State Park near Lamar, Texas (not far from Rockport, Texas). You get it.
