Funny how I checked this out the other day on their website as I’m toying with the idea of buying one and a few days later you put a video up about the very same sonic 😅. I think it’s an epic replica and it’s honestly beautiful with its chrome effect and the red settings inclusion is gorgeous, not only that but it has a unique sound. I ended up paying a bit more prices have dropped now but still not a bad price it is definitely a bootleg however the red and white setting as well has the other modes definitely makes up for that
I just got one on ebay for £30-£50, i was going to get the “prototype” from dark cyber but that was somewhere around £80-£120 They are saying on their website that there is a second a final batch being released this month. They also state their is about 40 total (20 of each batch) Dark cyber are claiming on their website that this sonic is THEIRS and that there is an over seas factory which have designed and distributed them on their behalf. I wouldn’t be surprised if the factory are selling of a load cut price hence why i got one for £30 and there are many being sold at varying prices on multiple websites
Nice! Yeah there seems to be a bit of confusion around this and I'm trying my best to clear the water. After I dropped this review I got contacted by the Chinese manufacturer to say that it was 100% their work and just being resold by Dark Cyber but at the minute I only have one person's word against the other so I've reached out to Dark Cyber to see if I can clarify. The Manufacturer also confirmed that all of the ones on ebay are theirs. Given the sudden swell in listings on ebay it seems very likely that the factory are just selling at original price without any markup to account for additional profit/postage costs I've picked up some of the ones from ebay and will be checking them out to see if there is any difference at all
Having taken one the CO versions apart, the 'stickiness' of the slider switch depends on how tight the screw on the plate it's attached to has been tightened. But it's honestly a real pain to open these so I would recommend against doing so lest you accidentally break wires and snap plastic...
Yeah I’m a bit of a bull in a china shop when it comes to modifying/fixing small electronics so I’ll probably steer clear. I genuinely don’t mind being able to leave it activated either 😂
I'm glad to hear the sound on these aren't as deafening as the surreal version. I opened the CO up to remove the sound chip, leaving it as just the lights like the prop. The wires near the LED emitter are kind of bunched up in there! @@order66collectibles
The up sticking was something that happened to my CO version when I got it. I think it’s just due to the switch being pretty loose and catching on the channel it’s in.

damn, I wish I had known about the ebay version. I pre-ordered the darkcyber one a while ago and shipping to the US was $60! I've been craving a non-official 12th sonic for so long and honestly was in a bit of a mental rut so I forked up the $170. I'm sure you understand how sonics can brighten up your day :). As a lightsaber collector as well, I'm accustomed to the price tag, but damn. The imperfections you showed in this video + the cheaper eBay ones really have me regretting a bit.
Ah man that sucks I’m sorry 😞 on the plus even if you have some of the production issues that I have with mine, I still think you’re going to be happy. 100% understand now a sonic can brighten up your day - same with lightsabers too 😊

The bend looks like it may be the inner core not being inserted straight at the factory. If that is the case I wonder if that is also affecting the button making it jam?
This one just barely beats out the War Doctor sonic for me, and that one is about the same level as 15's sonic imo. This one's still my favourite all these years later
With companies starting to add in the red setting I hope Rubbertoe pick up on this and in their next release of 12's screwdrivers they incorporate these into their props. Even if they don't I'll probably still try and get one since I missed out on the last batch but I really hope they manage to add in the extra settings seen like in the actual prop.
It would be awesome especially since rubbertoe made the original prop that had the red setting built in! If they kept this rising sound effect too that would be amazing

I really enjoyed your review the slight bend does show at some angles in the video and for the price with the several problems you have shown it's not worth the £95 in my opinion without the problems and better quality plastics I could see the price being justified, it will be interesting to see this vs the eBay (probably) bootleg Sonic.

The led’s are brighter than my surreal entertainment sonic as well as the sounds being a little different. Can’t wait for your review to see if you notice all the other different between the eBay one and the character options/ surreal entertainment as there are several I haven’t mentioned. For basically the same price as a surreal entertainment one I think it’s worth to getting along with that.

Just bought my 12th dr chrome finish and its also banana shaped i honestly prefer the matt finish because the chrome one feels more delicate and not properly well made plus has alot more blemishes

I honestly wish that this sonic had a green pulsating light rather than the flashing light, if that was fixed then id be willing to purchase this version even over the "Metal" NAWYA version.
Yeah I get what you mean. Comparing the two I think they did fix it with the metal one - I’ve done a review showing that if it helps. It’s much more gentle pulsating rather than flash on off like this

It was from eBay I contacted them and they sent the correct one so now I just have a free bootleg 14th sonic which I’ve decided that it’ll be my 14th Doctor cosplay sonic so it can afford to be knocked about a bit
ive been thinking about picking one of these up but the price seems like a bit much (especially with possible faults in mind), do you know if the ebay version is a close enough copy to opt for its lower price, or if im better off saving for the real one?
I picked up a slightly cheaper one on eBay for £50 which is great and has none of the issues. I also picked one up from eBay for £29 and received the standard version. I’ve just finished putting a video together covering this and linking where I bought from so that should hopefully help
Wow I didn't expect that price tag for a "toy" Sonic. I have experience with "laser sword" replicas which are made of Aluminium with a blade that contains 144 LEDs and a circuit board that holds 30 different soundfonts for around £135 but if you take the amount of detail in this Sonic then the price might be a little more justified. However.... I'm not dissing Sonics as I have recently been tempted and have ordered a CO 11th/12th Doctor Single Button (due any day). Can't wait for it to arrive....Geronimo!
Yeah unfortunately the sonic market has gone a bit wild 😂 some toy sonics easily fetch over £100 these days on eBay. I have a few pixel and RGB sabers so know what you mean in terms of bang for buck by comparison but then at the same time..sonics are just awesome 😊 Ooo nice! What made you go for that sonic? I’ve got my fingers crossed for you that it is a genuine one - unfortunately there’s a lot of bootlegs for that particular design of sonic and not all of them good 😞
@@order66collectibles I think I was "chosen" by that screwdriver, it just called to me as it looked futuristic but also looked like a real mechanical tool. Plus Matt did use it quite a bit so it grew on me. It might not be my only one if this purchase goes well, am eyeing up the 14th (probably retail version) next. Finally, I've been a saber collector for about 10 yrs now but I also design them too, including some Whovian themed creations (ever seen a Dalek lightsaber? I 3d modelled one). I'll let you know how my first screwdriver turns out, thanks!
I think I got a bootleg sadly. It has the wrong soundchip - it plays 4 bleeps but won't recognise the secret three and four button press) . Also the packaging printing is too dark on the logo. Even the instruction leaflet has this printed on it ""Doctor Sonic Screwdricer Instructions" spelt with a "C"! Slightly disappointed but I can still try and modify it.

Ironically the thing I’m finding the hardest is trying to find a genuine sonic with packaging (I have a genuine one but not box). If you’re looking for a good version of Matt’s sonic in toy-form I’d recommend either the surreal entertainment release (I’ve done a review if it helps) or the version labelled as the 12th doctor’s sonic - it has touch controls instead of a button and has a removable power core
It can be tricky sometimes depending on how stiff the switch is but you have to change down 3 times quickly to get the red setting - it is the next setting after the disco setting
I found this on eBay for 50 dollars AU but in the video, yours cost 95 pounds (which adds up to a lot more in Australian dollars) do you reckon the eBay one is authentic.
Yeah you should be fine with that one on eBay. I’ve had contact from the manufacturer in China who informed me that they’re all from the same place - just different resellers pricing them at different markups. That being said, I’ve ordered two cheaper ones off eBay to see if there’s any difference and will do a quick comparison soon but the one I got for £50 is identical to the one I got for £95 here but it doesn’t have the unfortunate bend

Given the fact that the company made a reissue of The Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver (had the aesthetics of Eleven’s combined with the touch controls of Twelve’s V1 Sonic), it would be amazing to see the screen-accurate mold used for the Character Options version combined with the spinning crystal emitter from the Seven20 version! Who knows what we may get in the future!
I love the Chrome finish, makes the other screwdriver toys look pretty flat by comparison. The Red setting is also brilliant with its unique high-pitched sound effect. However, the rotating blue setting and pulsating green setting are really disappointing and are putting me off actually buying it. If they used the Character Options lighting effects, then it would be perfect. Otherwise, it's a really nice replica.
Yeah with some of the niggles I sit on the fence with it - if it was cheaper I would definitely recommend it… so I guess we’ll see what the £50 version from eBay is like I guess

I don’t think it’s worth it either just for a red light that I don’t remember the doctor ever using in the show just in the sonic reveal video showing us the fans that the prop actually had the setting I can always be wrong about the setting being used but most of the character options ones have sounds not used in the show
Yeah I don’t think we saw capaldi using the red setting in the show - think we only saw smith use it to be honest. The cheaper eBay version might be more worthwhile at just over half the price but I’m reserving judgment until it lands
So glad they re released this and with red/white, and good show on what it is and how it functions. Maybe I'll get it if and when the original 12th Doctor Sonic I got breaks.
I'm glad this has had more releases because it was becoming increasingly difficult (and expensive) for fans to find one of these. I've picked up one of these from ebay for about £24 so let's see how good/bad the budget versions are!
I saw this advertised via a sonic screwdriver Facebook group - there is a version listed on eBay which I’ll take a quick look at too, probably get that review up early next week
See I never liked this design. Felt too much like a toy BUT just having a chrome coating I think makes it look so much more like a scientific instrument
At first I wasn’t a fan (a bit like when Capaldi first took over) and then it really grew on me and became my favourite…again a bit like Capaldi 😂 the chrome on this is gorgeous and really sets it apart 😊

ive been thinking about picking one of these up but the price seems like a bit much (especially with possible faults in mind), do you know if the ebay version is a close enough copy to opt for its lower price, or if im better off saving for the real one?
I picked up a slightly cheaper one on eBay for £50 which is great and has none of the issues. I also picked one up from eBay for £29 and received the standard version. I’ve just finished putting a video together covering this and linking where I bought from so that should hopefully help

Wow I didn't expect that price tag for a "toy" Sonic. I have experience with "laser sword" replicas which are made of Aluminium with a blade that contains 144 LEDs and a circuit board that holds 30 different soundfonts for around £135 but if you take the amount of detail in this Sonic then the price might be a little more justified. However.... I'm not dissing Sonics as I have recently been tempted and have ordered a CO 11th/12th Doctor Single Button (due any day). Can't wait for it to arrive....Geronimo!
Yeah unfortunately the sonic market has gone a bit wild 😂 some toy sonics easily fetch over £100 these days on eBay.
I have a few pixel and RGB sabers so know what you mean in terms of bang for buck by comparison but then at the same time..sonics are just awesome 😊
Ooo nice! What made you go for that sonic? I’ve got my fingers crossed for you that it is a genuine one - unfortunately there’s a lot of bootlegs for that particular design of sonic and not all of them good 😞
@@order66collectibles I think I was "chosen" by that screwdriver, it just called to me as it looked futuristic but also looked like a real mechanical tool. Plus Matt did use it quite a bit so it grew on me. It might not be my only one if this purchase goes well, am eyeing up the 14th (probably retail version) next.
Finally, I've been a saber collector for about 10 yrs now but I also design them too, including some Whovian themed creations (ever seen a Dalek lightsaber? I 3d modelled one). I'll let you know how my first screwdriver turns out, thanks!
I think I got a bootleg sadly. It has the wrong soundchip - it plays 4 bleeps but won't recognise the secret three and four button press) . Also the packaging printing is too dark on the logo. Even the instruction leaflet has this printed on it ""Doctor Sonic Screwdricer Instructions" spelt with a "C"!
Slightly disappointed but I can still try and modify it.
@@fortyeth ah man I’m so sorry 😞 I’m trying to do a video to highlight what to look out for with bootlegs and 11 is next on my list. Ironically the thing I’m finding the hardest is trying to find a genuine sonic with packaging (I have a genuine one but not box).
If you’re looking for a good version of Matt’s sonic in toy-form I’d recommend either the surreal entertainment release (I’ve done a review if it helps) or the version labelled as the 12th doctor’s sonic - it has touch controls instead of a button and has a removable power core
How do you find the red settings? I can find both green and blue versions okay but the red escapes me
It can be tricky sometimes depending on how stiff the switch is but you have to change down 3 times quickly to get the red setting - it is the next setting after the disco setting
I found this on eBay for 50 dollars AU but in the video, yours cost 95 pounds (which adds up to a lot more in Australian dollars) do you reckon the eBay one is authentic.
Yeah you should be fine with that one on eBay.
I’ve had contact from the manufacturer in China who informed me that they’re all from the same place - just different resellers pricing them at different markups.
That being said, I’ve ordered two cheaper ones off eBay to see if there’s any difference and will do a quick comparison soon but the one I got for £50 is identical to the one I got for £95 here but it doesn’t have the unfortunate bend

Given the fact that the company made a reissue of The Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver (had the aesthetics of Eleven’s combined with the touch controls of Twelve’s V1 Sonic), it would be amazing to see the screen-accurate mold used for the Character Options version combined with the spinning crystal emitter from the Seven20 version! Who knows what we may get in the future!

I love the Chrome finish, makes the other screwdriver toys look pretty flat by comparison. The Red setting is also brilliant with its unique high-pitched sound effect.
However, the rotating blue setting and pulsating green setting are really disappointing and are putting me off actually buying it. If they used the Character Options lighting effects, then it would be perfect.
Otherwise, it's a really nice replica.
Yeah with some of the niggles I sit on the fence with it - if it was cheaper I would definitely recommend it… so I guess we’ll see what the £50 version from eBay is like I guess

I don’t think it’s worth it either just for a red light that I don’t remember the doctor ever using in the show just in the sonic reveal video showing us the fans that the prop actually had the setting I can always be wrong about the setting being used but most of the character options ones have sounds not used in the show
Yeah I don’t think we saw capaldi using the red setting in the show - think we only saw smith use it to be honest. The cheaper eBay version might be more worthwhile at just over half the price but I’m reserving judgment until it lands

Yes!!! 100% agree! Capaldi did a fantastic job and for me he had some of the best episodes and a fantastic series arc
I got mine much cheaper than yours mine was only £30 and the button doesn't stay stuck when you push it up it always comes back to the middle position

So glad they re released this and with red/white, and good show on what it is and how it functions. Maybe I'll get it if and when the original 12th Doctor Sonic I got breaks.
I'm glad this has had more releases because it was becoming increasingly difficult (and expensive) for fans to find one of these. I've picked up one of these from ebay for about £24 so let's see how good/bad the budget versions are!

I assume is because it’s a ‘homage’ to them…and also probably due to china’s lack of intellectual property protection

I saw this advertised via a sonic screwdriver Facebook group - there is a version listed on eBay which I’ll take a quick look at too, probably get that review up early next week
See I never liked this design. Felt too much like a toy BUT just having a chrome coating I think makes it look so much more like a scientific instrument
At first I wasn’t a fan (a bit like when Capaldi first took over) and then it really grew on me and became my favourite…again a bit like Capaldi 😂 the chrome on this is gorgeous and really sets it apart 😊
