George is amazing, at story creation. And cinematography. He knows exactly how to make a shot glow. He's rubbish at directing. Spielberg is all three(writer, director, cinematographer). That's why they're a good team. George can also produce well.(for those who don't know, producers fetch investors to get funds for the movie.)

With that kind of "directing" no wonder that the prequels didn't work as well as the OT. Don't get me wrong, I love the prequels, but the difference was that in the OT you had more "proactive" actors who were not afraid to question the script or even change some of the lines, as the Star Wars franchise was not as massive yet. But in the prequels you had a lot of fresher actors and SW itself was already a huge franchise by then, so they didn't have the same agency to question George like Hamill, Fisher or Ford could back in the 70s/80s. So eventually the dialogue and acting turned out way sub-par to the OT, which is a pity because with better written dialogue and better acting directions the prequels would be absolute killer movies!

Y'know, I never really thought about Samuel L. Jackson training for the lightsaber scenes too. Weird. I guess I sort of just assumed he always had the skills of a Jedi Master, for some reason. Come to think of it, I've seen so many clips of Hayden and Ewan training or doing scenes with the sabers, but never one of Sam. Huh 😂 I even knew about the Ian thing and how George switched it up on him last minute, but I guess I never really put two and two together.

I remember my Dad showing me Star Was when I was a little kid. I remember him sitting next to me on the couch, waiting for my reaction to the "I am your father" scene. I remember seeing it and a part of me wasn't too surprised at the idea, but also thinking he was just telling a lie to deceive Luke. No big gasps from me like I've seen from audience recordings from when the films first hit theaters.
