- One of the most simple and easy ways to haul anchor while fishing alone on the boat - The Lazy line used with an Alderney ring and buff.
Mine is used on a quicksilver 640 pilothouse but this works with other boats to and takes seconds to set up and is I think the best way single-handedly to haul anchor.

Yes it does mate I don’t use mine at all it simply cannot hold enough chain and rope for my needs and if it jammed I would struggle to get up the side to free it, this way is much easier and safer and is fool proof for the most part.

Excellent video my friend, very well demonstrated and explained. I have gathered almost all the gear apart from the triangle. I cannot seem to find one, so will probably need to make one.

If you can't get a triangle - or lose it.... Length of fence rail about a foot long with a decent hole through does the same job... Just made one yesterday.... 😎
yeah anything with a nice hole in it works but the saltwater like any wood rots through after a while but it’s cheap enough to re make but the stainless just lasts for a life time.

So the chain is 8mm or 10mm and the rope is 10 or 12mm it’s a while since I set it up but that’s rough for you, the chain is the length of the boat give or take which is standard stuff.
Before you rush out to get it all make sure this system is right for you, on a warrior I think it will be spot as others use the same system but this for me just makes the whole thing workable from the back deck and safety of the deep rails rather than climbing all over the bow in rough seas and tight gaps but set it up right and it’s fool proof!

Try doing that in 5/10 knts of tide you going under. This sytem only works in good calm water with little tides you should specify this as this could kill someone in faster flowing waters
The Alderney ring method is used all over the world but it’s down to each boat user to decide what’s best for them and apply that to their own boat and situation for us here in the UK this works just fine and allows you to work from the safety of the deck or if you have mobility issues like i do just makes life 10x easier. It’s just a way not thee way as is with anything shown by anyone.
Keen to hear why this would be sending someone over though no matter the tide size and other methods of hauling in that size tide for boats that say don’t have their own winch/capstan to haul the anchor as hand hauling certainly wouldn’t be an option then either?
When you fish the Bristol Channel running hard around 8knts you ain't going be quick enough to tie it off u make it look like u got all the time in the world when in reality u barley have seconds to tie and swing round to the front if u can make the knott in time.
The reason for sinking is anchoring off the side if u can't process it quick enough u will be pull from the side and that's a dangerous position with a hard tide. Cardiff runs like a river u will go down many have lost anchors and boats up the Bristol channel
@kylewilliams8108 I haven’t personally fished the Bristol Channel myself mate so can’t comment but I know one boat who has and hauled fine this way but no idea on tide states at the time but it’s a fair comment we get 3 knots of tide here max and this works perfectly here but like i say it’s each to decide what’s best for them and if I remake this at any point or anyone asks I will highlight tide speed being a factor 💪🏻👌🏻
I use this same system in open water north vancouver island. It is safer then having your boat tied directly to the anchor. It's another line of defense in the chance of a rogue wave you can cut the wrap line free from the back of the boat where most people spend time fishing. Almost everyone up here does this. The most complicated rig to lift the anchor I have ever seen. Why are you not anchoring from the bow? My anchor rode goes from the bow, through the Alderney ring and to the chain attached to the anchor, that's it. Retrieval is simply a wide loop back past the anchor. Why all the additional tie off points, triangle. Try using the thingy in the front of the bow for what it is intended.
It’s the most easiest rig to lift an anchor I have used. it anchors from the bow still and the lazy line saves the climbing round the front of the bow and having to do any tying off in rough seas or weather you remain completely on deck and near virtually hands off instead of balancing on a tight gap like my boat. I also have mobility issues hence the channel name.
When you have no windows to pass through or a tight pass up the boat like on a smaller quicksilver you don’t want to be climbing round a narrow gap to and having to tie and untie. This still anchors bow first and hauls and retrieves exactly the same way as any other Alderney ring set up would do including the way you have mentioned there.
Another point seeing as we are on it, if you have to cut anchor in a hurry again you have to climb up to the bow to let it loose, with this you just untie on the back cleat which is right there no having to get to the bow and the rope locker upfront mine holds no where near enough rope and remains in a bucket outside the wheelhouse regardless.
The triangle isn’t anything to do with the tying off either as anyone who is sensible enough knows you don’t have your anchor buff free running and need it stopped away from your vessel to alert other users and you can use a block of wood with hole in if you like but the reason you can buy these is they’re made for this exact purpose and what it is made and intended for 👌🏻
If your way works better for you that’s cool. This way is better for me and many others and is a demo just like the many other lazy line demos online ✌🏻
