- Have you ever wished you could change your horse's attitude? Do you want your horse to be a more willing partner?
The most important thing to remember is that changing my horse's attitude begins with ME. If I can change my attitude toward the horse, relax, and find some things to be positive about, THEN I can help my horse change.
When your horse has built up a history of unpleasant behaviors, it's natural to start to anticipate all the things that could go wrong. But in order to help your horse change those patterns, you have to start giving the horse some trust and allowing him the opportunity to choose a different response. One practical way to start to overcome this is by looking for things you like about the horse (even if it's just his color!).
Be in the habit of looking for reasons to reward the horse, rather than reasons to correct him. It is critical to release and reward the horse when he is trying. Work through moments of agitation by finding a good place to release, then quit. Don't get into a fight over it, because that will just increase the agitation.
If you are consistent in your approach, and you put these tips to practice, you're sure to see an attitude change in your horse and have a more harmonious outcome.
Until next time, may God bless the trails you ride!

Hilarious when he said, if she blows up, " you will be highly entertained at home and Kurt will be very busy"😂
I love your point about making sure you are the one choosing the direction, the speed, etc. Stay ahead of the horse and keep asking her little things she can do successfully, but definitely keep her thinking. This horse seems like she could get into trouble if she got bored.
I prefer the single rein - as a novice split reins give me too much to deal with. Lovely horse.
Good stuff.
Thank you. Great video. I am starting a Mustang and I can honestly say I am sometimes nervous too, based on what went on before. And yes, it is so easy to comment sitting on a sofa, but try getting on a horse that might buck you.
This video really helped me with my mare today. Thank you for sharing your wisdom ❤
Great advice on using positive reinforcement to progress the training. Love this! Your videos rock, so helpful. Hoping to take a clinic with you next year. Do you ever come down to CO for clinics?
So frustrating when you tell a rider to release the reins for reward and they still don't release
Excellent advice! I will work on my green horse and give this a go!
I just found you! Thank you for these videos
Thank you, I m learning lots
Outstanding video..
Thank you for the great videos
Is this in Arizona?
I don't think think the majority of riders understand the importance of humans emotional and how it relates to or influences horse behavior. This applies to ground work and in the saddle
same thing with dogs - your energy travels straight down that leash and directly influences them.
Deep breath once in awhile?
take his rope away
yeah I was thinking that too. It's not really serving any purpose anyways. I'd get it out of the way.
