Man, this rider improved so quickly (there's a moment-- 8:23-ish-- where the rider starts to really sit forward/feet under him) -- and yes, impressive on the turns. Great video-- thank you!!

Awesome video I will be practicing this exercise for sure I tend to recline and get left behind so this will help me tremendously!! I love God and horses also thanks for your encouragement about disappointment. Tell your son thanks for demonstrating he did awesome 👏🏻

I think the main reason Kurt is having problems keeping his legs beneath him is his stirrup length is tad too long. Shorten his stirrup leather a hole should make it easier for Kurt to keep his legs directly underneath his shoulders. Also his calf should be touching the side of his horse and relax his knees by dropping his knees. Also, until he gets his seat completely independent and his legs under control, he should take his spurs off his boots. You can see he is worried about poking his horse with his spurs. That’s one reason he keeps placing his feet forward to keep his spurs off the side of his horse.

That’s a very excellent exercise. My coach did a lot of that with my mare and I. He called it playing cutting horse.

Stumbled on one of Ken's video and now I want to see them all. I am an older woman with rods in my neck and nerve damage in my hands and legs. My sense of balance is affected, but God has been so good and I am still able to ride. He has also blessed me with an 8 year old halflinger that I am training to saddle. Ken, your teaching is easy to understand and implement. But the most exciting thing I found when I first watched your video is that you shared your faith in God. That was unexpected but so comforting. I believe my new horse is a gift from God and so are your videos. Thank you.

Kurt did excellent, I realized I am riding with my stirrups way to long thaks for a really good demonstration.

This is the way i learn how to ride. Brought a 3 half yr old that was really green at the sale they sold him as 12 years old. The trainer said he was just baby, and my first lesson was just like this video.

When at John Lyons horse training back in 2004, I met you. Josh Lyons had me do this roundpen exercise without reins with an opened Gatorade in each hand without spilling.... best and toughest test I've ever taken.

Wow! That was a great learning video. As a new rider, with a lot of experience in a short time, I know what I do wrong when it goes wrong so now I need to learn how to fix the bad. This video cleared my unknowing and explained much of what was missing. Thanks Ken for the amazing lesson. The rider was a great sport. To sit in front of that crowd and Ken and just roll with the punches, I had wished that it were me. Even though he had a bit of self deprecation and a bit of being razzed by Ken, his experience will be something he remembers always and if he’s like me will be hearing Ken’s voice in his head every time he rides, which will make him a better rider. Sounds like Ken needs to do that demo often to make him not breath so hard. Sorry Ken!

Lots of great tips here! I'm always looking to learn more. I ride English (but not in a rigid style)...it seems that we get closer contact with the horse and so it's easier to zone in on the correct centre-balance seat.

Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this! I did a little trail riding growing up. Now, in my late 50s I recently went on a vacation to a working ranch. I had a great time, but realized I have so much to learn about horsemanship. I found a nearby place that will let me groom horses in exchange for ride time. This also lets me learn about general horse behavior. I'd loved to come to one of your clinics, but I guess I'd need my own horse for that. I'll look into being a guest at one of your 3-day clinics. Your demeanor is so positive I think it would really be enjoyable to work with you.

I went to Ken’s three week course back in 2000. Back then there were people who came in without any horses as Ken provided safe horses that met the experience level of the attendee. Call and ask if they still do that.

Thanks, Ken and especially Kurt, for this video. It is just what I need today to help me as I strive to be a better rider (and keep my feet under me and not lean back). I also appreciate your spiritual wisdom and counsel, and your comments about determination have touched and encouraged me to allow God to lead me through the trials and the fun times that I experience. May God bless you guys as well.

Hi Ken & DeeDee and kids it's Chris remember Bob Btinkman that came out to your Ranch like 6 yrs ago you meet us at Mustang 90 day thing in Fortworth he did a mustang and wanted to buy but had no time and it was time to ride at the end I might have Ben siting with you or by you I was sitting with the owner of the 4 sixes. With the big white musstace can spell under his nose .he's famous in the cow and horse world Bob was 68 doing a bay. When it was time to buy you horse or someone would.they said man buys horse I cryed then they said the lady with the mustang heritage foundation had to catch a plane and left an open check for Bob to get his horse 🐴

I love McNabb lessons. Very confident and focused = success. Only a suggestion is to name the "God" you are speaking of. There are literally thousands of "Gods" but in reality only one true God and all mighty. Use his personal name to distinguish him for all others. I love McNabb lessons!

I do like the Exercise however the rider obviously has riding experience and the saddle fits that horse very well. Putting an inexperienced rider on a saddle thy doesn’t fit well for the horse or rider would get a completely different experience. Therefore not a fan. Only for certain riders and horses and not beginners or intermediate levels.

Sitting properly to develop an independent seat should be the basis of all riding. In the UK, generations of kids learned to ride on English saddles following these principles, rather than relying on the security of a western saddle in order to stay aboard.
This is nothing new or dangerous.
