Watch me take you through a very simple DIY reverb circuit using the PT2399 karaoke chip.
Great sounding reverb with slap-back echos and even some self oscillation.

FYI, The sound goes out of sync with the video because the sound was recorded to tape and ya know tape it just plays at its own analogue speed, which ain't the same as digital film etc, you get it. cheers and thanks for watching.

Played back from tape it just sounds so legit black metal...I love it. Analog delay is huge for lofi styles of music. I have a Space City dual analog BBD with feedback.... it's got the darkness for days.
Love your work. These chips are really fun to play with. I buy the ready made circuit boards with the voltage step down ic on them. I desolder few bits, adda few bits. You can create some wild delay and or moise pedals with them.

Nice playing! 🎸 Just wondering, I note you have a Fostex X-12. Do you use it with the original PSU supplied with the recorder? I have one and noted the power plug supplied is quite a bit higher voltage than specified on the stated PSU requirements, as printed on the bottom cover of the unit. 11-15 volts is on unit yet the power plug gives about 18, with load, motor overheats and slows down. With mine, I built a 12 volt regulated PSU and it functions perfectly. Also, would like to experiment with chip, as you suggest. Nice upload, thanks for information. 🙂
No it’s not the original PSU. I just use what is recommended for the unit and it has worked fine.
Please have a look at my more recent videos as I show more detail on the use of this machine in tape looping and general function.

Yes there are many many circuits available that use the PT2399 echo chip, happy experimenting!

Not sure what you mean. I just used what I can get my hands on, it sounded ok to me, the bulk of the sound is coming from the chip anyhow. Could be better cleaner with ceramics yeah.
does playing it back from tape change the sound inany way? When you are playing it does it sound the same in real life?
Not really no. Just did it for fun.
Can you please provide the circuit diagram?
All I know is it’s called a pseudo reverb by Culture Jam. Have a look at the vero layout and reverse engineer it maybe. It’s all based around that chip and there are many other circuits like this where you may find a schematic. Good luck
