I genuinely don't think people understand the simplistic brilliance in John Mayer's music. He isn't just a phenomenal guitar player/singer. He's seriously one of the most poetically intricate songwriters in generations. He's up there with the greats. Unfortunately, it'll probably take a long time for people to really appreciate that about him.

Its a song about someone who is screwed up from his past. Hence "I was born in the arms of imaginary friends" and "I was made to believe that Id never love somebody else" Meaning, he did not have anyone to count on or to love him and in fact he was brought up to believe that love wasn't meant for him. He wasn't taught to love so he doesn't know how and too afraid to take that chance. He does the woman a favour by walking away. Who the hell wants someone who is only capable of loving with half of their heart. Sad song actually.

this song used to remind me of my very first love. I knew he didn't feel the same way as me and I would stay up late and listen to this song and cry because I knew he didn't love me 100% but I couldn't let him go. he ended up leaving me, and it was hard. took over a good year and half to move on. 2 years after he left, he comes back into my life and says he knew the minute he left that he had made a mistake. Long story short, it took me 1 full year to forgive him and now we've been together for a year. But when I hear this song, it reminds me of how I felt and I get sad just thinking about those times.

this album was his last great album for me. his newer album, that country ish one sounds great, i listen to it every now and then but i don't go back a million times to listen to it like his older albums, its not as memorable. hopefully his latest album is more better.
you kidding? Continuum and Born & Raised are his best two albums by far. Though you can't be Room For Squares because the songwriting on that was solid!
It's just my opinion maybe I need some time for born and raised to grow on me, its not a awful album, it has a couple of nice singles but the whole album its just not memorable. Just my opinion. I like that he is trying new sounds but I miss his usual sound. I wish he would have a little bit of everything in future albums.
