The cable doesn't actually come apart - a cut one has been used and put in a vice purely so that you can see it better. The job should all be done with cables still attached to the vehicle, you just need to disconnect them from the gearbox shifter linkages as shown in the video

Please could you do a guide on where the earth points are on the XR5 as I hear that these can cause a lot of electrical issues if they get dirty or become loose over time
