Huge thanks for your making a Yamaha surf playlist. I followed your set up for my 2014 Yamaha 242 Limited S. There were a few changes that had to be made because of the differences in the boat but I’m happily surfing. One the main differences I had to make was add an additional 250 steel shot ballast to the very front of the bow to keep it from cavitating. So total ballast now is 2650 lbs of ballast. I also got lucky to get the adjustable wake shaper from jet boat pilot. Not sure why they discontinued it.
Best surf video yet. I’m so glad you made these otherwise I would still be scratching my head on how to do this. I have an 08 212x and the ballast pump fills both bags simultaneously so I’ll have to dc one side. Great video. Off topic but do you have any insight on why my exhaust smell is relatively strong and I have a visible vapor that dissipates pretty quickly. I need to find a full blown mechanics manual for this thing!
Hard to say, maybe it's running at bit rich but that better than running lean. Also, running ethonal free gas can make it smell worse. Unless your boat was built in the 80's run regular pump gas in it.
seen some of your videos and then recognized the Baums license plate frame and that your at Clinton lake, I recently bought a 212x and live in Clinton and will be out on that lake quite a bit, I hope to see you out there, been helpful watching these vids to redo the sound dampening, and ballast systems.
@@JeffDoesThis yea we went out last weekend and sat in front of the hot water outlet, but ive been wondering if i could make it possible to tie in a ballast bag to my already existing ballast system, any insight would be greatly appreciated.
You can can tie into your system with a piggyback setup. If you search piggy back ballast bag you will find tons of videos. Maybe we will have to meet up on the water one of these weekends and you can show me what you want to do. We go out at least once during the midweek to wakeboard/foil and also out on the weekends.
Do you have any suggestions on setting up the ballasts for wakeboarding? I have a 242XE and have issues getting a good crisp wake. We arent able to get a lot of pop and airtime with the wake we have now.
IMO weight is KEY. Other wakesurf boats have 3k lbs of ballasts, vs Yamaha normally at 1600 lbs. I have found a good wake with a 100/100/35 split when having a regular rider, goofy I send it 35/100/100. Plan is to add a FATSAC and a few more passengers for more weight. I hope this helps.
I recently purchased 255XD too - I took it out yesterday with three people on the boat (myself, wife and her friend) My wife surfs goofy, so I filled the ballasts 40/100/100 and the wake was great, especially when I had her friend sitting starboard. However, when I had her friend surfing regular, and has the ballasts at 100/100/40, and my wife sitting port, the wake was just good. Solid for a beginner, but left a lot to be desired. I know that if I had more weight on the boat, whether people or FAT SAC, it would produce a better wake. IMO, I would like to have a few more people on board, and add a FAT SAC. I was even able to get my kiddo on the surf board, and she's 10 surfing goofy. Again when compared to my friends wake surf boat, it does well, only needs MORE WEIGHT, in my opinion. And it handles 10x better in rough waters compared to my friends wake surf boat, based on the hull.
@@miggs.countrymusic I can concur to that after having it the last few weeks I have got it close to where I would want it. More people is definitely the ticket, bro in law is 230 ish and having him back there on transoms seat starboard side is a beautiful clean wake. I don’t really want to do the fat sac if I can stand to not. They as in bro in law, his wife and niece are with us 94 % of the time on the water. I am thinking of getting some ballast bags and stuffing that corner 2-400 pds possibly and then having people back there should help tremendously. I finally got up Sunday and surfed about 3 miles on our local lake and had a blast. Couldn’t really go rope less like my buddie did Friday on it just because I’m still getting a feel for being on the wave. Love the boat though and definitely don’t regret it. Just want a little more as you said. It did make me feel better reading some of the surfboat forums, as they’re all having this same conversation. Maybe it’s a endless pursuit 🤣
@@Tarkenton09 Love it! Oh yeah, that would be a huge plus, I am on the fence with the FATSAC, its a FAT EYE SORE, haha. Sounds like a dang good time, and you're getting it all dialed. I kind of feel that same way, the endless pursuit. hahah🤣😂
Jeff - any chance you know or have come across jet deflectors recently? Looking for a deflector for my 05 AR 230 but jet boat pilot doesn’t make the product anymore. If you’re interested in selling yours would be interested. Thank you!

Awesome! Hopefully this weather figures it's self out and we can get out and enjoy the lake! If you see me flag me down and say hello.

If I could only get one ballistic bag would u recommend just getting the transom bag?? Will it make a difference?
Yes, you have to have the transom bag. The boat has to lean either to the left or the right to make a surf wave.
I am also responding to you on the lake. After I just got done, surfing, pretty awesome
Hello, very cool video but do you need a jetwash deflector
Not for foil surfing.
Just got a 255xd and new to surfing. Can’t quite get the wave to form just right.

Hey man any update on your past post for the dimensions of the wake washer?
My boat is coming out of storage in 3 weeks. So if you can stay tuned to the channel you'll find out.
lousy wave but good enough for your level.
Thank you.
Annoying😊
Thank you.
A lot of work to have a below average wave
Great wave for a sub 100k$ boat
my 2001 tige 23v i bought for 15k makes a much more playful wave
