I was looking at the 255 FSH Sport H and then walked by the 222S. Decided that fit our lifestyle way better as we don’t fish. Almost 40K difference between the two. Win Win.
Wondering how the 222 handles in a 3 foot rollers. Putting this in an inland lake called lake st Clair. While it’s not a Great Lake it’s not small. Square waves from every direction and boat traffic on weekends adds to the mix.
I would also recommend to consider the type of water you plan on boating in. Bigger boats deal with chop or rough water better then smaller boats. Comparing the my sx240 vs my friends 20ft prop boat, there’s a big difference in ride quality in the rough.
A big factor in deciding between these is their storage dimensions. What is the height of each with the tower collapsed? I’m wondering what size of garage will be needed for each boat.
I believe you'll need a minimum of 10 feet with the 25 and 9 feet for the 22. In the past I believe some have been able to make the 21 footers fit into a 8 foot opening bit requires some extra work to get that low. Most garages don't have the requisite length to fit either unless you have a workshop.
Hi Will, great video! How can I get the SeaDek (Left and Right sections) for the swim platform hatch on the 252? My 252SE does not have the SeaDek under the seat cushions. Seems like a nice option to remove the cushions and have more non-skid standing room back on the swim platform.
Love the content! any idea on head clearance on the 22' model while standing at the helm? I'm 6'3" and would prefer not to hit my head while moving around under the Bimini.
Hopefully one day these boats will adopt subfloor ballast like the dedicated wake boats. If you get the wake version of the 22ft, you have very very little storage space.
Enjoy your videos Will. Ive watched your videos on the new sea doo switch and on the yamaha jet boats. We like both and are having a difficult time deciding which one to get. The 21ft cruise switch with the 230 motor or the AR250 yamaha. I noticed you touched on yamaha's reliability and low maintenance...but you didnt mention anything about the reliability or amount of maintenance that would be required on the sea doo switch. I would greatly appreciate your expert advice on this matter before i make my decision. Thank you
Historically the Yamaha gets the nod for most reliable. Seadoo typically gets the nod for most innovative. Time will tell how reliable the Switch is. If reliability is your number 1 item on your priority list then Yamaha is your beet choice.
You will notice a huge difference in performance. i have read several reviews on the switch. Even with the 230, if you get 5 or 6 people on it, it is very very slow. AR250 all day long between these two.
Thanks for reviewing! Both look like great boats. Just wondering if you have spent any time with the AR220. Interested to hear how the TR-1s handle the additional weight of this year’s model.
They have been making them a bit quieter each year over the last 8 years. I am not sure what they have in store for 2024 but I can tell you that they are light years better than they were when they first came out.
How are these on fuel consumption when wake boarding and surfing? I've always heard that jets are horrible on fuel. That said, I really like the looks and features of these boats.
They get about the same fuel Mileage as a traditional i/o, maybe a little better. Twin engine boat with 360 hp burns about 10 gph. Twin engine boat with 230 hp burns about 7.5 gph. The fuel hungry jet boats are the supercharged ones. Naturally aspirated are not that bad.
I think I’m going to get an ar220 as my starter boat. Has so many great features at good price point. However concerned about its durability in ocean. Will these boats be ok in salt water. I read that salt water can damage the jet drive.
I have owned several boats over the years but never a jet boat. Thinking about a Yamaha but not sure the size. Just me, the wife and two dogs. We are in our low 50s. Would like to take up wake boarding and water ski. Have a newer Toyota 4 runner and boat launch literally 4 miles away.
Life jackets are required to be readily accessible. Having them in a storage locker is not acceptable. Why don’t boat manufacturers accommodate this USCG requirement. How do you trim a Yamaha jet boat when there are waves for a better ride? Seems you need to run at a higher speed which makes for a rougher ride. .
Not sure. We're in the panhandle area. I'd check with the local dealer there. Boaters Exchange or Riva Pompano would be the only people I know that could have info like this.
Great review! In terms of ride, how do they compare? Also how does the SX220 compare in ride and features to the 195s? I like the layout of the 195s, but the hull doesn’t look like it would ride well.
I don't have alot of time on rough water yet. But I do know it will ride immensely better than the 19. 25 definitely rides better than 22. It's heavier and longer. But both ride great!!!
@@josephviveros5980 that boat is before connext Era. I think you have one pump that fills all three bags simultaneously. The switch should be near the helm. Also should have dump ports on either side of the boat so you get a visual when rear bags are full.
Is it really 22'6"? I can't find any info on this. Every stat I found says either 22even or 22'2'". This is interesting that Yamaha can't simply publish the correct number.
I just pulled a tape on it and you're right. The number is 22' feet exactly. We were looking at the wrong spec when we made the video. The spec we pulled from was likely the length on trailer spec. The actual boat length is 22'. I can't edit the video without pulling it down completely. It was not our intent to mislead. We apologize for the misinformation. We'll add this detail in the description.
@@JetBoatPilot I didn’t see it on your website under the 2023 22’ option. I will email your company, could you reply with the link so I can purchase along with some other items for the discount. Thanks.
@@chrisneill4765 Ah, I understand you now. Apparently there was an issue with providing a solar panel attached to the canvas and newer boats do not come with the solar charger any longer. I was unaware of this at the making of this video.
The real difference is the engine choice, the twin TR1s are pathetic compared to the twin 1.8s now 1.9s. Same price once you look at the same engine option.
I think the almost $20,000 difference in price is going to be the deciding factor for many people.
I was looking at the 255 FSH Sport H and then walked by the 222S. Decided that fit our lifestyle way better as we don’t fish. Almost 40K difference between the two. Win Win.

Great video. Thanks. Question, what is the top speed for 22 and 252.
Top we've seen has been 48 on the 222 and the 252 was a little less. It's been a while but I think we saw 46 on our 252S before we sold it.
Love the content! any idea on head clearance on the 22' model while standing at the helm? I'm 6'3" and would prefer not to hit my head while moving around under the Bimini.
Current chaparral owner. The 252SD is my next boat!!!
Just wish the 250 hp engines were an option!
It's really well done.
The "Great Big" sun shade on the 25' boats is considerably smaller than it was on the 242x. I don't know why they made it smaller.
Hopefully one day these boats will adopt subfloor ballast like the dedicated wake boats. If you get the wake version of the 22ft, you have very very little storage space.
Agreed. They easily need another 1,200lbs+ of ballast without it taking from the maximum weight capacity like it currently does.
great job, thank you
I wish Yamaha would make a center console that was about 4 ft more forward and have a larger cockpit area like some of the boat down under.
