This was so real. My mother's family migrated from Bangladesh in waves, and still have the homes they left behind in their hearts. This weaves through so many stories I heard as I grew up. Beautifully potrayed by the print! Thanks you.

My forefathers also fled from their during partition, i am a Hindu, my grand mother use to tell me the scary scenario during partition the Hindu massacre, rape, loot.. I am always an Indian and proud be, Indian government took my great grandfather and others to Andaman and nicobar islands or some stayed in west Bengal and my father and mother born in andaman and i too.. My grandmaa use to tell me that they tortured us so much that even can't be described in words, she says for saving their lives she swim for a day may be i am not confirmed, and so on.... Proud to be an Indian

Buddhist writers portray Pushyanitra as a cruel persecutor of the religion of Sakyamuni (Buddha). Pushyamitra, a militant follower of Brahminism, assassinated the last Mauryan Emperor Brhadratha, capturing the throne of Magadha and founded the Sunga Dynasty. It ruled for a period of one hundred and twelve years. Pushyamitra had to justify his position as head of the Brahmanic reaction by persecuting the Buddhists and destroying Buddhist monasteries on the one hand and restoring the sacrificial ceremonies of the Brahmanic faith on the other, for which his principal helpers were Patanjali and also perhaps Manu, the author of the Manusmriti. who was also his contemporary according to some scholars. The persecution of the Buddhists by Pushyamitra, was a logical sequence of the Brahmanic reaction and the political coup d’etat. The Buddhist text Divyavadana mentions the persecutions of Pushyamitra and his destruction of Buddhist stupas and monasteries.

There is hardly any Bengali Hindu merchants and traders. All the merchants and traders in Bengal were mostly Marwari Hindus and Bengali Muslims. This is still true to this day.

we (my great grandfather and forefathers) were Bengali Hindu zamindars in faridpur district of Bangladesh, my grandmother told me that her mother in law told her about how big and grand our haveli was. So sad to see these in this condition. I hope Bangladesh govt takes over these grand houses and converts them into govt office, district office or govt guest house etc. This will preserve them.

Two castes, Namasudra and Pod, both untouchables embraced Islam and their descendants aggregated, according to E A Gait, in 1901, at nine millions. The Bengali Muslims who wanted homeland were numerous than the Hindus by 79,00,000+ in 1941. Had untouchability not forced the Namasudras and Pods to seek shelter under Islam for dignity and protection against persecution, would the Mulsim ever be a majority in Bengal? So, Pakistan in Eastern Bengal was a Hindu gift to Jinnah indeed.

The main reason for the increase in Islam in Bengal is forceful religious conversion starting from tyrannous Bakhtiyar Khilji, he destroyed Nalanda University and killed many Buddhists and Hindu pandits.

Similar story, except it was my grandmother's side of the family that had a zamindary in Bangladesh and my grandfather was a calcutta resident. I could never bring myself to visit the lands as it would only make me more anguished. A lost cause is a lost cause. One of my professor had been legally trying to get back their ancestral land since the 80s, he didn't even get back half of the property. For most people its generations of wealth and affluence vanishing in thin air overnight.

The recent generation like me would never understand the pain that the migration caused. I still remember the watery eyes my grandparents had whenever they spoke about their land , their home , their childhood frnds and all that they left behind ! I wish they were still alive so that I could take them their once !
Thanx to Print for taking up such a fascinating issue of utmost historical and cultural significance...would have liked more if more detailed documentary pertaining to this could have been done...In future would love to have more such videos (of course in detail) on issues related to culture, history and heritage

both my paternal grandfather and maternal grandfather were bangladeshi brhamin hindus . they migrated to india during the 1947 parition my paternals were from dhaka district and they were pujaris in dhakeshwary mata temple and had a magnificient palace near dhaka and my maternals were from noakhali district of chattagram division , they were roy chowdhury and had a palace to known as chowdhury rajbari, its is present there and under our control we visit bangladesh vai train very frequently . my maternal granmother once told me that they also had another palace named chowdhury rajbari only which was forcefully coverted to a mosque which is now known as chowdhury bari moshjid ..... but there werent able to convert the other palace .... my grandmaaother's brother still live there and is a BCS ( equivalent to UPSC in INDIA ) retired

Ikhtiyar Bin Khilji wasn't the reason for the spike of Muslim Population in East Bengal. He established the first Muslim Sultanate in whole Bengal and beyond but his sultanate was very short lived it was a Hindu king from Sylhet who reverted to Islam and invested in dawah in East Bengal and build diplomacy with other Muslim sultanates of that time.
