For those worried about the dog, he was alright! We brought him inside before it even started raining. He usually got really nervous and scared during storms, so he always had somebody to cuddle with to get more comfortable during storms. Sadly, he passed away in 2019 on new years day. He was a lovely dog named Cooper. ❤️
Damn man! Whoever that was that went out BAREFOOT to fetch that hail with lightning striking so close by, you sir were VERY GOD DAMN LUCKY to be alive! That was reckless going out barefoot with those conditions! Also, RIP pooch...
But scary holy f! No it's not my type of summer, I prefer hot and sunny ones! Btw you're lucky enough to be able to enjoy stormy ones too which are one of my worst nightmares!
I love that this turned into a family event. Glad you're all safe! P.S. You're not a true Midwesterner unless you go out in weather like this for amazing footage so thanks for representing us! ;)
If you are a thunderstorm lover, this is your place to live. Wisconsin, where this storm was, or maybe Chicago, Minneanapolis, Cleveland, or anywhere in the Midwest. While it is possible to get storms like this here in New Jersey, all too often they are hit and miss.
We had pretty bad hail damage from this storm in Blaine MN. New roofs and siding and all of cars parked outside got damaged. Our new Toyota Sequoia got 10k in hail damage. I’m still driving my car around with hail dents from this storm.
From Wisconsin also and I've never seen the sky turn quite that green. Please stay inside with your doors and windows CLOSED whenever lightning is present, and definitely don't run outside to collect hail! Also teach storm safety to your kids! It could save their lives. 🌩️⛈️😱☮️ P. S. My niece was a caregiver for a boy who was struck by lightning. He was left paralyzed and couldn't speak. All it took was one second. Stay safe! ☮️
It's strange how almost you don't see lightning rods in your small towns. Here in Brazil we have many, both in small towns and in metropolises. I've seen many lightning strike trees next to houses and for lack of a lightning rod in the vicinity you become an easy target inside your own houses.
From what I saw on a map of Wisconsin, Somerset, Wisconsin is in the westernmost part of the state, bordering Minnesota, so st the beginning of this video, the storms were probably mainly in Minnesota, but heading in your direction.
Thunderstorms occur in three stages, developement, mature, and dissipation. When the storm looked to be really intense when it was approaching, it was probably in the mature stage, but then got into the dissipation stage by the time it hit.
Anyone who says that animals get nervous before dangerous storms, just take a look at the black dog in the neighbor's yard, who was completely unconcerned and happy beforehand.

I have footage of this storm too. It happened in the morning- i dont know what time the storm is hitting in the video here, but i had a storm come through in the morning, and i live in st paul. I remember waking up at 8am and it was still dark out, and im like, wth? I go out to the kitchen with my phone and hit the record button. I stopped recording about a minute in, that lightning you had-- the really bright flashes that looked like it was right in front of you-- one of those flashed right in front of the window i was standing in front of. We had pea sized hail here
Beautiful storm. A little bit of shelf clouds building but no signs of supercells w rotation so probably a short lived robust isolated thunderstorm cluster. The capture of green under the shelf cloud was great. Wish we had more storms like this roll in during the day but they prefer to spark up in the dead of night!
While I like to see thunderstorms at anytime, day or night, night is the perfect time for heavy thunderstorms, especially around midnight, as the sound of heavy rain hitting the windows and/or the roof is the perfect sleeping pill, especially on non work nights, when you do not have to get up early. Heavy overnight rain is perfect, thunder and lightning or not.
Hello fellow Wisconsinite. This video just came across my feed and I’m so glad it did. Absolutely amazing! Scary too. Thank you for For sharing with all of us.
Back in the late 80s early 90s my sister bought me a toy at the nature company that was a small speckled egg with two metal contacts that when it came in touch with a warm hand it would Peep and/like there was a little bird in there. I kept it in an egg cup on a Shelf in my living room and every time chain lightning would come down close it would go off by itself. When it would go off by myself I would brace myself for loud lightning.
Did someone take the kitty in? I am from Michigan. Usually there are larger storms on the western side of our state. I live in central to southeastern. I witnessed a storm like this before.
Cool video, but kinda crazy to run out in a lighting storm, especially it being that frequent and close. You're braver than me. You was lucky not to get struck, but very cool video indeed. Glad things didn't turn out bad.
I remember this one! I have pictures on a old phone and maybe a video I think on this storm... it was wild!!!! Craziest thing I’ve seen in all my 50 years!!
I live in New Richmond WI not far at all from somerset and on that same year and day we had that scary green sky storm with very large hail it was tornado weather
Was that a squall line, supercell, or a muti cell storm. I think it was a multicell storm. Your gust front was not strong and usually in the rain and hail core winds are stronger anyways. Your winds looked calm in the core , might have been a weak echo region. Correct me if I'm wrong
AWESOME FOOTAGE - but I saw bare feet outdoors while all that lightening was going on!! NEVER go out in a storm, or even near a window, in bare feet in the vicinity of all that intense lightening!!! When I was a kid, a friend of mine was killed when she was running through a field barefoot during a storm and got struck by lightening. DREADFUL!!!
Yooo this looks like War of the Worlds. Except I don't think Evan was playing in the original part of the movie. This must be a fill in. Thanks for the upload!
For a thunderstorm to be considered "severe" it has to have winds of at least 60 MPH and/or quarter-sized hail. Regular thunderstorms still pose heavy rain and lightning risks.

Missouri usually gets severe weather but bro this year kinda sucked.:(
Can't go wrong with Florida
Severe weather conditions are very ramping up more this summer and hurricane 🌀 season is few weeks away from the national hurricane 🌀 center
This is how storms look in my dreams! They are always approaching while I try to get home while navigating through the city.
I live not to far away from that area. I remember this storm. it spawned like 8 tornadoes in brown and outagamie county.
Holy s...
6:45 “Don’t go out there.” Then 10 sec later “That’s a big one. Go grab it.” 😆

That looked considerably worse in the distance than it turned out to be.

lightning all around:
run go go get it
lmao that was epic
If this happened in so California, we'd all die from fright. This is amazing.
If this were to happen in Southern California, it would happen during El Nino.
You are CORRECT !!! ... But here in Texas, it's just a afternoon shower ... Hehehe!!! ~~
Very true op. I live in S. California and l am terrified of storms like this.
It just happened in So Cal. 10/4/21. It was something to behold.
This is a nearly Daily routine here in South Florida during the summer months
In Canada we rarely get that big of hail but this year we got a tornado then a shelfcloud

Yeah that's bullshit. He should have brought the dog inside.
WOW 😳.. great video of the power of weather ☁️⚡🌩️

great view of the storm . I'm surprised it wasn't a lot more windy though.

Just so you know, how green forms in severe storms is when it’s late afternoon or evening and the sun changes and it’s colors make the storm green.
Standing outside in a lightning storm is like playing Russian Roulette.
Unless you have lightning powers
Yeah that's dangerously and recklessly crazy, holy God!
If it shows up on video it must be ten times more nuts in person! Awesome and terrifying at the same time!
Looks like a nice storm. Look at patio umbrella, while it is folded down. A penus.
usually a green sky means a tornado is coming fast
