I basically grew up listening to these guys. My Dad would always play Slaughter of the Soul in the car no matter where we were going.
After having listened to that album hundreds of thousands of times, I can tell that this album is going to be amazing. These song brings back memories of long car trips with my Dad.

I'm so glad someone else understands what actual melodic death metal is about. All these bands now days have the melodic parts down pat, but no fuckin' balls or brute force to even it out. More people need to understand that some good old riffage never killed anyone.

Hypocrisy began as a old school Swedish Death Metal Band. But, with the album of the year 1996, "Abducted", they begin their Melodic Death Metal Style.
The rest of the bands are Melodic Black/Death Metal bands, except At The Gates, whose, along with Dark Tranquillity, In Flames and Heartwork's Carcass, other band that i like, are the pioneers of the Melodic Death Metal.

Yeah, its ATG, The Haunted and The Black Dahlia Murder for me, the best bands to see live aswell! And their productions on the albums are just getting better with time!
20 years on a studio hiatus, no change to their sound has been made (save for the huge production/mastering), yet still sounding actual and fucking METAL! Can´t wait!

I don't understand how anyone can talk bad about this amazing effort. This song is effing brutal!!! I swear it makes the hairs on my arms stand up every time I listen to it. I remember being 13 years old and buying Slaughter of the Soul when it first came out and just being floored.. nothing I listened to back in the day could top how intense that album was.. still even today.. and after hearing this all I can say is... they're back.. YESSSSS!!!!

This is part of the magic of music, what might not be appealing to me it can be appealing to someone else, I'm a huge at the gates fan and I think their songs are awesone, they were part of something huge like the gothenburg sound, it helped re shape metal music in the past and this I think is just one more step to immortality.
The riff from 1:20 is actualy fking brutal and godlike definetly on my top 10 riffs ever.
The best part is that is not even the only good riff from this track.
There is life after Slaughter of the soul.
The tiny bug crawling under the right thumb tripped me out for a second.
The only thing that disappoints me about this track is that it's only 3 minutes long.

Slaughter of the souls came as a free gift from ordering from repulse. I had originally ordered gates of ishtar back in 95 and was more into at the gates. Well worth the nearly 20 year wait.
50 year old metal head here. I've been around for all of it. I have rated this album, like Slaughter of the Soul many years before it, a masterpiece of the Heavy Metal music genre.
