    Was born in Sparkhill. Used to be such a lovely area. Wonder what happened to it. Sigh.

    My goodness, there used to be quite a few pubs along this stretch of Stratford Road, including The Mermaid. Sadly they're all gone now.

      @@citiesthroughmyeyes I still live in Birmingham. Tyseley to be exact. I used to live in Small Heath, but often visited the Mermaid pub for the gigs. General Public fronted by the late Rankin Roger performed there in the upper room, it was absolutely packed and you could see the sweat coming off the walls. Another interesting fact: this section of Stratford Road was one of the locations used for the horror movie I Bought A Vampire Motorcycle, which featured Anthony Daniels from Star Wars.

    The area looks like a thriving Pakistani community. Where did the English people go? A lot of changes in 45+ years. The Sparkbrook area looks revitalized from what it was, which was depressed and rundown. Many of us left the country years ago and your videos allow us a look at the "old" places. Thank you Joseline.

    19:05 Stratford Road Baptist Church used to be part of a much larger building, half of it was a photographic studio with a rather gothic looking interior. I worked there on a four week industrial placement while I was at college back in late 1982. It was rather boring and a complete waste of time, as the only thing I learned was how to build room sets and make tea and coffee. The boss of that firm took a rather negative attitude to photography students, which made working there worse. In fact, the whole experience at that college overall wasn't enjoyable at all and I dropped out at the end of my first year.

    Why would people park on double red lines, where is the council people??

    • @abuismail9983
      @abuismail9983 2 роки тому +2

      I don't want to defend people parking on double red lines or parking on the pavement but this is a problem of UK and the government as well. Yes people should not have that many cats but where should they put their cars? Streets with terraced houses are so narrow, there are no assigned parking spaces for the cars, no underground parking like in other European countries (I am German). Totally stupidly designed. Just to build as many houses as possible without thinking of that people will have cars or need space. If one family has two cars, this is already a big issue. So in these areas where you have a lot of terraced houses, everywhere this is an issue. So the blame is not only on the people.
