Yeah, broke design students like me really need a handy device which is good for digital drawing, talking notes at any location.
We have to use heavy 3kg laptops which have less battery life and isn't really portable.
Is asking for procreate level software from Android too much?
      Tbh, apple is overpriced overall.

Most Android phone manufacturers don't really care that much about tablets.Even the more expensive Samsung ones don't get much support compared to an iPad.Google themselves said that they don't really care about tablets when they design new Android versions. It really depends on Xiaomi,Samsung, etc to make the OS run like it should and make things compatible with them.Yeah,iPad is expensive but to be honest, you won't have any problems with it,runs as fast as a phone, has 6 years of updates and you can still get some money for it if you decide to sell it.

Good comprehensive comparison of the two tablets. I've been a Xiaomi phone user for over 5 years and their phones are excellent for value and performance. Over the years I've drawn on Wacom, N-Trig and now I primarily draw on iPad. The pen feel of the iPad is definitely the best I've experienced in terms of accuracy and sensitivity. That said, I agree with Teoh that all aspects of each tablet should be considered, including OS, apps, screen, support, etc. Personally, I think people over-value pen pressure sensitivity and for many drawing styles, it's an important factor but shouldn't be weighed so heavily. Ultimately, it comes down to personal drawing style and preference. For me, accuracy is more important, which is why I like the iPad and its precision. Seeing more competition from Android tablets for drawing is a great thing. I think if manufacturers can get over that hesitancy about being price competitive with the base iPad, they would enjoy more success. As it stands, where I live, the iPad is the best value by a large margin when compared to Samsung and Xiaomi, so given its excellent performance and availability of higher end apps, it's a no-brainer to go with Apple.

The tapering will severely affect hair & folds drawing, it's the same problem I faced with the cheap old wacom non tablet which had 2048 lvl of pressure sensitivity. You would have to go back with another brush or eraser & cut off the strokes to make it look tapered.

Also I still haven't seen a killer-app drawing on Android like Procreate on iPad (the most reason why I bought iPad tbh). I don't know... maybe there is but drawing on iPad is still so much better imo. Hard to explain why tho.

It just launched a great phone named Xiaomi Civi it's complete package but it won't launched globally and it's very economic back in china. So is with tabs. Second thing is each item costs almost 50 to 80 US$ more in India. And when cost rises like that features and item itself become contested with others. I would buy Xiaomi tab but its not out in Asia. @@RandomUser-tj3mg no one's forcing them. It's a matter of preference. And "locking" yourself is a gradual process over years of choosing which devices work for you. If you started with a MacBook and ipod, for example, you might've wanted to go for an iphone due to the ease of use across the other devices. As years go by, you've gotten comfortable with the ecosystem. So with tablets, the preference is almost always towards the iPad.
As for me, I've been accustomed to Windows. So Android became a conscious decision for phones (also, Apple prices are just too much). But I'd consider an iPad because it still is the best tablet so far but with budget, I might end up with the Xiaomi Pad 5.

I owned a xiaomi device, but used a custom rom because of how buggy is MIUI.
*And not all user's are like me who can flash and use a custom rom.
Everytime MIUI released an update, instead of fixing issues they add more and more problems.
ADS. These are also annoying. Maybe for now it's not present, but in the future they will also implement it on their tablets.
Also that lag on pen is also a deal breaker. Especially if you're really gonna focus on drawing.
Displays are good on both tablets, pad 5 have HDR support and iPad 9th gen have TRUE TONE.
For sound quality pad 5 clearly wins, but iPad 9 have HEADPHONE JACK😏

Sorry, but if you compare hardware, do it with the same app. While I believe that the tapering of lines is a hardware issue on the Xaomi, the software could also be the problem there. The constant change of apps in your video is rather not good. Stick with CSP, there you can compare them properly.

    • @teohontech7141

In that case I should stick with Medibang Paint Pro since it's the app that will show the actual un-configured un-adjusted performance of the pen.
Not sure if people will actually have the patience to go adjust each brush they use in CSP. I tried and it's very tedious to use software to correct hardware issues.

there's no other tablet like the ipad (not just the 9th gen but all the other ipads) when it comes to writing and drawing experience at their respective price point. Apple provides a really great user experience and they have been manufacturing tablets since (I don't even remember since when xD) but the conclusion is they are very much experienced in this domain. It will take time for new comers (even the already existing competitors) to get to this point where apple is today with their tablets and the stylus (i'm taking into consideration only the drawing and the note taking aspect, the apple pencil etc.). Also apps like goodnotes, notability, procreate etc (which are only available for iOS) makes the experience twice as fun. Plus the overall UI of iOS is what makes these tablets so great to use. However, at the end of the day, one can pick any tablet, one can go for even a pen tablet from huion, wacom etc and can produce great art and beautiful notes. But it's the convenience that matters. I always try to go for devices/apps that are most convenient, and those that saves a lot of time and effort. And if I had to choose between these two devices in particular, I would go for the iPad, hands down. (even though i already have the 9th gen)

iPad over Xiaomi Pad 5 all the way tbh.
    - Better drawing performance on iPad
    - Longer software updates on iPad
    - Better app selection and optimization on iPad
The Xiaomi Pad is better on paper and has better design, but ultimately, the iPad is much better in terms of user experience and value IMO.

Other than the first point, the other points are not that important. The one thing about that iPad is it will make you think “this design is so old” each time you use it. As for the Xiaomi, I still have it and I can’t bare to sell it because it’s just so good. I say that even though I should really sell it since I bought it for review purposes only.

@@teohontech7141 Well, if you get a tablet purely for drawing, then sure, the other two points are not that important. However, if the tablet is going to be used for other purposes like productivity, media consumption, gaming, etc. then the other two points for iPad become extremely important. In my opinion, the design of the tablet matters much less compared to the software experience and general long-term software support. And in those aspects, the iPad wins by a country mile over any other tablet on the market.

@@TheNightquaker I find it funny that people seem to suggest that Android tablets are not as productive or not as close to being productive to iPads which is clearly not the case. I've used and tested iPads and Android tablets and there are things I want to do on the iPad that will make me feel like tearing off my hair, the lousy file management system is just one of many examples, and believe me I can go on and on and list numerous examples but I don't have time because the list is too long.

@@teohontech7141 You have a good point about the file management system, which is indeed pretty bad on iPads (and iPhones too for that matter), but the productivity also relates to things like widgets, which are notoriously bad on Android and are much better on iPad OS (and iOS as well). And the overall better app optimization for the big screen, along with the app availability, improves productivity as well.
