They pay their taxes, that entitles them to government programs when needed. Paying their taxes MEANS they are taking care of themselves, by buying into programs like this. Taxpayers don’t just give their money away to the government for no reason.

I'm thinking the same thing! We're on the Big Isle. I certainly hope should we find ourselves in the predicament Lahaina has, they'd has, they'd handle things like an intelligent adult. FEMA is useless from what I saw in NC after Hurricane Isabel. They showed up after our town was demolished and served hot dogs in the Walmart parking lot.
Why wait 7 months to do background checks when it's time to move in?? Nobody inspected the properties? But money is being paid for them??

While the homeowners in the burn zone live in tents, the owners of property still standing rent to FEMA and travel to Europe .

FEMA employees were staying in beachside resort SUITES from the first day they arrived, while fire victims were living in shelters, in cars, literally sleeping in the streets and parks.
Just publicly allow squatting like over on Big Island.

They’re still paying their mortgages, even though the houses are burned and gone.
People here can barely pay their mortgage and you want them to pay a mortgage for a non-existent house AND rent?!… when price gaugers have raised the prices of rents 10x what they were before the fires because they want to discourage long term renters so they can apply to FEMA and get way more money to house fire victims?!
@@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom Why would you pay for a burned out lot? insurance already paid out.... land is toxic no-one will rebuild for a lifetime... Rents suck they so high, but so is payments.... taxes and the gov wont let people build without 5 years of permits...
All the money has been spent to house and feed the former renters. 2:06 Homeowners have received no help from FEMA the State or the county. We get no information as to when we can get our lot cleared. When we can turn in plans . When we can rebuild. No one has answers and we are camping while people drag their feet. It won’t stand for much longer

@@gerryclark7232 Yes I did for 8 years. There is home owner assistance already out, all you have to do is go online and look it up.
Homeowners should’ve been first priority, renters are only temporary residents and don’t own the home, so they can just move, they aren’t financially invested into the town like homeowners are PLUS homeowners are still having to pay mortgages in homes that don’t even exist anymore, while renters don’t have that financial burden.

Yep my neighbor kicked out family to host for fema since they pay more. Still no one has moved in and it’s over a year. They get 15000 a month for the empty rental.

what emergency plans, oh you mean that pile of draft after action reports that stay hidden under lock and Key, Like Herman's 2018 Draft Report on the Lane Fire, that screamed out the truth that in a Aug. 29th, 2018 community meeting, the public had already vehemently criticized the county for not sounding the Sirens during that fire and for never receiving Emergency Alerts, For Firemen not having access to water and for no pre-emptive electric Power Shutoff and no evacuation Plan! The public had already made it clear to Maui County and Herman that they had expected and demanded a SIREN upon any future fire! 69 People suffered and died in Kahua Camp Area because there was No Loud Siren Alert and no Loud bullhorn and absolutely no evacuation of that area at all when fire first started! YET, Herman knew full and well the public had already expected the siren and he'd better Sound it next time! He needs to be locked up. This is murder.
The Big question is "why did Herman, The Mayor, the Police and Fire Chiefs, the County, FEMA'S Bob Fenton, the States Emergency Response Director Major Kenneth Hara all fail to Sound the Siren From 2:55 pm. noon till 12: Am The next Day!! NINE HOURS in a Firestorm PASSED and NEVER ONE LOUD SIREN ALERT! As People Self evacuated, ran for their lives, jumped into the ocean and died in their cars, their houses, and in the streets. As Top Dog officials could not figure out what to do in an emergency. Sounding a Siren to warn and alert people never crossed their minds? that's a lie and that's B.S.
