I've also been about a dozen times in Corfu for holidays. The island, is highly recommended for all seasons of the year, except winter which is a little bit cold, humid & rainy. I always enjoyed the landings at the "Ioannis Capodistrias" national airport, as part of the fun of my summer holidays, since my childhood. The main landing strip (or corridor), literally, divides in two parts the little "Khalikiòpoulos" lake, about 2,5km far from Corfu (Kérkyra) city-center. However, I think that local authorities & the greek administration must take very seriously into consideration, that some day a new airport construction planning would be needed, due to Corfu's renown fame as a world standard tourist destination, for more than 150 years!

He then announces over tannoy “sorry about that folks I think they wanted to sweep the runway before we land” . So he did a quick spin around the island and then got us down on the newly vacuumed tarmac, brilliant holiday, 😂😂😂👍🏴
That's 100% true. However, given that Greece's main strategic interests & "hot" points are mostly located to the N, or NE(Turkey), many ignore the fact that Corfu, since 1864, is the main gate of Greece towards Italy & wes. Europe. An important key point,between Rome & Athens.

Dann so auf Höhe der Leuchtfeuer warten, dann fliegen die Flugzeuge direkt über einen und man kann sogar in den Fahrwerkschacht sehen. Für Aufnahmen von oben, über den Steg auf die andere Seite gehen. Dort gibt es das Café Nisos. Von der dortigen Aussichtsterrasse hat man einen tollen Blick von oben. Mit dem Auto dorthin zu fahren, ist sehr stressig bei viel Verkehr und man verpasst leicht die Einfahrt. Parkplätze sind nicht so viele vorhanden. We were stuck several hours at the airport in the 90’ because of heavy fog, so many people waiting in the building I had to sit for hours on my cabin bag. Beautiful place though.

The landing strip is very short so the braking on landing is savage. Look at the first plane and see that it is braking the very moment the wheels are down! It's highly skilled stuff. I'd rather go BA than anything else. Their pilots are superb, the very best. The airport is nasty but the island is varied and interesting. Lots of culture, history and great food.
On any airport runway in the world, u wl find two numbers written at both the two ends of the runway. What's the meaning/significance of these two numbers and what's the difference between the two numbers n why is the difference always constant for all the runways in the world ?
Hatte bei beiden Flügen am 13.07. Hamburg Korfu und dann gestern 27.07.2019 Korfu -Hamburg Turbulenzen wie ich es noch nie erlebt hatte und die Koffer werden nach geliefert . alles komisch ob vorher bekannt war das es Probleme gab´b und deswegen unser Gepäck nachgeliefert wird?

Much quieter and more impressive is watching the cruise ships come into Corfu town harbour. Was great watching them from up near Nissaki.

It's the heading of the runway based of magnetic north. For example runway 08 is 80° and runway 36 is 360°

In winter, they're about 5 to 8 a day. In summer and especially at Saturday, there's a plane about every 15 minutes.
