Remi is probably one of the most complex characters ever shown in movies. Right from the very beginning, we are seeing how the director subtly hinting towards Remi's vulnerability. It's almost like easter eggs. When you watch this film again and again, you'll see what I am talking about. Everything Remi does or the way he simply is around Leo or the way he responds to Leo definitely foreshadows Remi's much deeper feelings. I think this movie broke me. I can go on and on and on.
Wait so one of them is gay? I thought this film is about how many will internalize toxic masculinity some day because having a tender friendship between males is considered "gay".. A bit disappointed that it seems to just be another one of those "gays are so oppressed" films.
This is the saddest yet most beautifully touching film I've ever seen. It shows the purity yet fragility of friendships at that age and how we need to let boys express their love for each other in whatever form that takes. The two boy actors Eden and Gustav were just unbelievably good, especially given they are first-time actors. Thanks for making this. ❤
Indeed, they were amateurs. Children can have a natural ability to act and Eden expressed astonishing range of emotion. The film earned well deserved acclaim.
I’m honestly surprised they don’t have a streaming service yet. Where Netflix really cares about quantity, A24 really cares about quality. And it shows. Great movies dropping back to back.
This happens with girls, too, and girls and boys. But I’m glad it’s being told about two boys. I keep reflecting on this - why we raise men and boys to be takers rather than givers? How we socialize the sexes. I used to be very carefree, joyful, playful, and affectionate, but was shamed out of that, too. Then everything became hyper-sexualized and deemed inappropriate. Suddenly, I was not allowed to love anymore. And men just became robots, and it became about exploitation and detachment rather than about tenderness and love. So sad. My heart still breaks for the boys in these men who have lost touch with their hearts, their souls, and their humanity.
That movie was one of the best I have ever seen. The actors were sooo good and they express the emotions of their age so realistically. I was crying through the entire movie. Beautiful
I went into the cinema not knowing anything about this film and almost walked out because I wasn't prepared for the sadness. From the sniffles, it sounded like the entire room was in tears almost all the way through. Grief.
@I am me • 25y ago all of them are in demand, it just depends on the film because the whale is getting a Blu-ray release. I hope they make this into Blu-ray.
@@نوري-ه4ه Exactly my reaction too. It was equal amounts of heartwarming nostalgia and heart-wrenching sadness for me. My eyes were damp for most of it. A brilliant film, superbly acted by all.
Close could easily move audiences to emotional grasps with reality. Friendships tend to last long, with all the obstacles that these two young people have to come to face with.
Such a masterpiece. I also went through similar personal loss that the main character goes through when I was about his age. Because of my experiences, this beautiful movie was so difficult for me to watch.
One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. I admire the mastery of the director and the psychological depth that he transfers to the characters, despite his youth.
What an incredible thought provoking movie inducing so many feels. This movie wrestles with a child’s transition into adolescence. As children grow and develop at different rates and no two friends are alike, one child in the duo simply outgrows the other often to the shock and consternation of the child left behind. Something we can all relate to. It’s a movie of contrasts: simple rural living vs urban school life; streetwise kids vs innocent boys; macho vs tenderness; what others think vs not caring… This film reminds me of the quote “At some point in your childhood, you and your friends went outside to play together for the very last time and nobody knew it.”
There are no words for this movie. It’s just emotion and sensation every where. You laugh, you cry, you feel… We need more natural and sincere lives like these. We need less criticism and fake relationships. This is a true movie. Sensational!!!
This movie portrayed the exact experience i had.. I also had that one person that i loved so so much and we didnt know what kind of relationship we were in... We were both girls, I still cant what were we.. and she left me, just like the movie. its like watching my own teenage years... So it hit me really hard, thank you director
That one fucked me up so bad like I was just on the verge of exploding in tears the whole thing. Kind of movie that squeeze your heart and gives you chills of sadness if that makes sense ^^" but def worth a watch.

One of the best movies I have seen in the past 20 years. Sad (take plenty of tissues as you are gonna need them). Regardless of your sexuality SEE THIS MOVIE. It is a total work of ART. So well made, directed, acted, crafted. From an 85 year old man.
I just streamed "Close" on UA-cam and I can't stop thinking or becoming emotional about it for many different reasons. While certainly a gorgeously filmed and edited work of art that expresses such a rich tapestry of authentic emotions, feelings and experiences of adolescent boys, it dives into messy life issues of sustained friendships, love, coming of age, family relationships and devastating trauma. The most important and foundational issue imo, is the portrayal of the subtle and brutal toxicity of societal expectations and prohibitions that emerge and affect boys from a very young age, and more intensely at puberty and adolescence. Magnificent, nuanced acting on all fronts, but especially by Eden Dambrine playing Leo, whose myriad of transcendent facial expressions were magically and intimately captured with lighting, framing and focus. Thank you for distributing and sponsoring this exquisite film that will soon find its place on my permanent collection shelf.
