    I've been looking into sari hammocks, myself. They're really long, though some extra cordage to tie them is probably a good idea, and instead of taking up room in your pack, you wear it as a garment. Because that's what it is, a garment that has this extra use.

    • @zacherybutter7349

    • @snakes_shadow3539
      @snakes_shadow3539 8 місяців тому +2

      @zacherybutter7349 Therein lies my problem.... I'm not sure of what other things I can search under, so I can't find much either, except for "don't have babies nap in them because of health risks". I'm mostly going off of a sari's dimensions, and fabric and cordage with good weight allowances and water proofness. They won't end up being as pretty as saris CAN be, but in the west, the trend seems to be eschewing form, and going only for function anyway.
      And the nice thing is? From what I've seen, Indian culture has been very open to sharing food and fashion with anyone who is interested. So you can ignore anyone who isn't from India if they complain about cultural appropriation.
      Edit: When I get one, I'll be buying fabric and making it myself. There are some places that will cut the fabric for you, so that will remove some worry about keeping your cuts straight.

    I did enough camping spreading sleeping cots out in the field during my tours in the military. On one occasion I found a Scorpion inside my sleeping bag. It is no joke when in the military you are told to shake your boots vigorously because of unknown hitchhikers. In Iraq I constantly shook my boots and sleeping bag, and swept my living space because of Camel Spiders, which are actually non-poisonous, but aggressive tailless Scorpions.

    • @michaelhenderson6786
      @michaelhenderson6786 2 роки тому +3

      I’ve always heard Camel Spiders (despite their cosmically horrifying appearance) are only aggressive when provoked, and even then it takes a lot of provoking.
      Though I would hazard a guess that being stepped on in a shoe, or rolled onto from inside a sleeping bag, might sufficiently piss one off enough. But I’ve never seen or encountered one in person, so I wouldn’t know.

    This is a cool hammock and I like the idea that some of them can come with a blow up mattress cross bars as well as a mosquito net and a tarp to keep the rain out

      Hey! No unfortunately the only one I’ve really tried and never switched from with bars has been the Warbonnet Ridgerunner- who isn’t on Amazon.
      I still have a link to their site it my description!
      You can find some “bridge” hammocks - which are ones with the bars, on Amazon too. I’ve linked one in the description - but I use my ridgerunner the most!

    I love hammocks when I camp. But that whole 2 tree thing can be a hard one.
    You can work around it if you have a vehicle, but if you're in a desert e.g. the null arbor plain (go pop it into google translate) or similar they cna be sub optimal.
    I always make sure I have what is needed to sleep on the groung with me.

      Hey! I’m not affiliated with them or anything, and don’t want to make this a product advertisement.
      So I’ll say a “Bridge Hammock” Is what you want to look for.
      This one in particular though, is called the RidgeRunner and it’s made by a company called Warbonnet Outdoors.

      They make nice ones. If you get the double layered standard type they make for a diagonal lay, you can slip an air or foam mattress between the layers for bottom insulation.

      The spreader bars should fix the back problems. If your setup can't incorporate them, then lie diagonally, this will allow you to sleep flat, not U shaped.

      I have degenerative disc disease and a lot of damage to my spine and hammocks are a life saver for me. You just have to set them up right and sleep diagonally. The foot end should be higher than the head end. Your body weight will then make it flatten out even. Sleeping at a 45 degree angle is also important.

    I don't really see a hammock working in Southern Arizona there are some trees but you don't want to touch them because they're covered in thorns or scorpions the Thorns would be a Palo Verde and the Scorpions are in Mesquite

    Me and my life long friend growing up started backpacking/hammock camping when we were about 13-14 max. Then again where we’re from it’s common for kids that age to be driving up the mountains etc, easily one of the best ways to camp and explore.
