I agree. Just bought my 2nd. My first was an early '80s with the three bolt neck, and black crinkle finish hardware.(Blarf!) Never should've sold it. Ugly, but sounded incredible. Luckily my 2015 does too, and has prettier finish, and hardware.
I had an ASAT Bass from early 90's. Same pickups and electronics, great bass. I only sold it because the ASAT, with a light ash body, was very neck heavy. The L2000 is perfectly balanced.
Makes you really appreciate tge progression and vision of Mr. Fender. Started out with the simple P-bass, then the 2 pup Jazz, then to the Stingray, and finally this beast. I doubt that there are many basses in this day and age that have the sophistication of this bass. I would probably sling on some nickel rounds to temper the sizzle, but since I'm not going to own this, it really doesn't matter. Greg, always enjoy your playing, and you have a great personality to boot!! 👍
Big time G&L fan here. I own a few G&L basses, including an '84 L2000, an '81 L1000, a '13 ASAT, and a newer Tribute model. The PUPs are VERY hot on these and you have to be careful or you can overload your amp's input (as he's doing here). I never run mine at 100% (usually about 70-75%), which cleans it up.
G&L has the most overlooked and underrated basses of all time. The tone on their basses is unmatched along with the action and versatility. They’re phenomenal basses which should be very popular but aren’t.
Great looking bass but the audio is really messed up in this video, might be time to invest in some better audio recording equipment! Keep up the solid content, nice work .
The audio isn't messed up, people really underestimate how hot those MFD pickups really are. It's hard to get a clean sound without really backing off of the volume.
Actually,I may be to blame somewhat, due to running a few basses through a tube compressor that I don’t normally use-my pedalboard was locked up in a rehearsal room🤦🏼-plus the SVT needs to get sprayed/blown out a little, cut out a couple times while filming four episodes that day. I won’t be using that signal chain again.
@@gregcoates4281 nah man you were great, excellent playing and presentation. Just some weird airplane engine like sound going on when you weren’t playing, not sure what it was from and honestly doesn’t really matter, the sound is fine in most of the videos. When I make it down to L.A I’ll be stopping by and getting a T-Shirt as a souvenir.
Their website still lists their address as Fullerton… but they could have moved to a different place at some point. Most of their US made stuff even gets Fullerton added to the model name.
Correct-it’s an active pre-amp with basically left handed wired pots with multiple capacitors stacked to reduce bass and treble frequencies-one of the best features of G&L guitars IMHO. Thanks for your input!!!
Love Greg and love G&L. Hate the distorted overloaded microphone. Norm, if you are are going to sell loud instruments, buy Jen a proper microphone system.
We still have the maximum metal flake in the business ✨
I have a 1981 L-1000👍
The L-2000 is one of the greatest basses of all time.
Damn straight

Greg you are a joy
I dig this bass. Interesting.
Greg always delivers! 🎸😎🤘🏻🇨🇦

Greg is da man 👍🏻 and awesome bass 👍🏻
Rockin' good! 🎸🎶👏👏👏
I’d love that. It would de a great studio bass 😍
Awesome 😎!

Gorgeous 😍😍😍. Great bass face Greg!!!!
Beautiful bass in a beautiful colour! Awesome playing too! However! Gotta do a Maton!

Great review!
Thumpin Greg Coates!
That portion of my wave was great
The tone is so sick and you’re a really good bass player 🤘
Thank you for doing my favorite bass justice!!
Did Greg just bond with that beauty?
Going on a tour of Leo Fender’s post Fender basses?
That would be a great bass for Greg...good gravy gracious.
That's a good dirty tone. Almost reminds of John Wetton when he played live.
One of my biggest influences, soooooo underrated!?!
Go Rangers 👍

👌
From Fullerton..
Is this listed for sale? I didn't see it on the website?

This guy could make a toilet paper roll with rubber bands sound good, so it's hard to judge some of the basses he demos here
😆😆😆
Greg said this guitar is a “break from the norm.” 😂
Does Greg tune the bass and his facial muscles at the same time?
😆😆😆
Is it from Fullerton
Yes,originally they were, but I think they may have moved to Huntington Beach …?
Their website still lists their address as Fullerton… but they could have moved to a different place at some point. Most of their US made stuff even gets Fullerton added to the model name.
The sign on the door on that suite is still there. It is next to the Fullerton Home Depot. Will check when I go by it. The street is Fender way
My mistake-the company that took over G&L-BBE,is based in Huntington Beach.
That’s what made me think they moved their location.
😎👍✌
Great instrument... Gotta go buy my afro.
get Lemmo no nothing about it outa there, and give Mr. Coates the spotlight.
Well, he is the host, and Greg had plenty of playing time...no biggie.
It’s like someone just handed Greg a tootsie pop! How many licks Greg? Awesome review and demonstration.
+1000 for Soundgarden.
HELL YES!!!!!
No need to run the volume 100% with those MFD pickups!
A common misconception with the L series stuff is that the bass and treble are active. They are not. Passive, cut only.

@@gregcoates4281, both tone controls work in passive mode too. In fact, I run mine without a battery. Makes the rear switch a kill switch
I took pictures years ago of those time controls, ordered all the caps, just need to replicate that circuit, super useful controls!
TONE controls-if I had TIME controls I’d be a very powerful individual 😆
@@leesbassment6393 that's interesting!
It's distorting the mic too much to really hear it. Maybe Norm can spring for some kind of recording interface. Especially for bass.
Love Greg and love G&L. Hate the distorted overloaded microphone. Norm, if you are are going to sell loud instruments, buy Jen a proper microphone system.
And we're still eating the mic, cool cool cool.
Lifelong indecision is creeping up on me again. Should I have gone with this brand instead of the ones I've embraced?
Someone get bootsy on the phone…
sound quality of the recording is horrible, really embarrassing.
great bass, though.
Great except the breathing..........
Yeah Ok, but, It's Ugly!
@@riley-hw4ph Ok, so, You Can't Recognize a "Classic Beauty," that sounds as Good as it Looks,...Fair Enough!
I wouldn't buy that bass if it was only $700. Ugly as hell.
Too much distortion to tell what it really sounds like. That being said I’d pass on the bass
