If you want to add some modifications you can add : a naca air intake in the canopy to cool down the pack and two exit holes to push the hot air in the edf. In summer the pack is very hot : if you can cool it, you will have a better efficiency and long life. Second : place servos to the extrados of the wing for nice and clean belly landing. If you can add a rudder servo ( light ) it will be a perfect edf jet. I have just received the 3Dlabprint PLA-LW light blue and have bought your files from Cult. I have to finish a Zero and after I start to build your Mirage!
Just came home from flying the mirage. Gusty wind, but sunny. Even the wind was about 3-4 bft it flew absolutly stable and safe. Easy to launch and easy to land with some headwind. Remember: I printed 2 outside layers and 3 % of infill. Even if there are now 1150gr. flight ready, its really no problem. So I can recommend using 2 outside layers. It´s much more stable.
Man, had my first flight today with the mirage. Even 1150 gr. with a 2200mAh 4s Lipo is no problem. just a little push and its airborne. flys at 1/3 throttle and speeds up great at full throttle. you just need a lot of space for landing because it keeps an gliding forever. great work, pal. great work !
Yup 3% is a good infill. You can go anywhere from 2-4% 2% on less critical and 3.5% on elevons. Doesn’t make a huge difference but can add a little rigidity if you want
Just Subbed! But first, thank you!!! I love the mirage and am a new convert to the future which is absolutely 3D printed models, its just going to get better and better. I think 3D weave printing is coming, probably a ways off but there are much more complicated machines than that already. There will always be a market for cheaper foamies which I love but we'll get there. I've never printed a thing, would you be able to produce the parts and ship? At a cost obviously but i have to ask. Does thingyverse already provide these services or anyone else? Thanks again, -Zachary
Thanks! Very much appreciated. Yes I feel in the next few years we could get a new version of Filament that changes the game. Stronger but lighter and when planes can print as fast as my Bambu can print regular PLA that’s going to be amazing. I could definitely print you a mirage and ship the parts in a box. I’m already selling products on Etsy so that wouldn’t be an issue. I’d have to figure out the price of a singe mirage in 64 or 70mm shipped. I know it’s roughly $35 in material plus machine time. I’m more concerned about the machine time since i refuse to use any of my other machines since I got my Bambu. Email me at ptikyle@gmail.com and we can discuss getting you a print
I would think so if print it right. Let me know if it works! The airframe is so efficient I’d imagine you can make it a lot heavier. If you bungee launch you print print it in steel haha
Tried to fly it but it seems underpowered at launch. Total weight is about 1000gr. Using a 4s 3700 mah battery which should generate 1400gr of thrust with the motor but it just doesn’t want to gain speed. Any recommendations?
What is the flight weight of the plane ? I already printed one, used lw-pla, and its flight ready about 1200 gr., which is, in my opinion pretty much. I had bad results wiht just one wall layer of lwpla. the pieces were very fragile, so I used two wall layers. What infill pattern do you use ? Hope I get an answer !
Thx for the fast response! Printing temperature is at 250 degrees Celsius. Tried different profiles for printing lwpla. Always the same result. One layer is ultra fragile. What kind of infill do you use ? What lwpla ? The printed plane looks awesome, but 1200 gramms iśeem to be way to much. Using a 2000 mamp 4 S lipo.
@@MauricioHernandez-de8is hahah it’s still really nice and flies like a factory model but it’s one of my first designs. The Gen 2 mirage is amazing. All around great one
@@hotlapkyle It was with this model that I discovered your designs. It would be great if you made a video comparing the different flight characteristics of your different planes.
You should fix the overly-large, poor-fitting cockpit before you release any files. Other than that, you should be congratulated for your excellent design and execution. Plus, the rest of the airframe has some beautiful scale lines.
I made many adjustments to this. Mine fits perfect like a glove now with magnets. Also you’ll appreciate the over sized canopy when you need to adjust the battery or get to your servo wires. Enjoy the free file

Amazing!!! Sorry I missed your reply!! Happy you had a good one 😀
Very nice design congrats
Thanks man, it looks great.
files arent free though but i am gonna build it :p, also if you make some caps for the servo rods it is les likely to catch on the ground when landing
Awesome
Please tell me, what infill pattern are you using to keep parts with just 3% of infill stable and solid ?

Nice project! What is the weight without any electronic system?(1 wall version)
I can’t recall. Many post all the weights on the FB group if you’d like to join
@@hotlapkyle i just submit my join approval, thanks
is it can fly if i use abs filamrnt not lw-pla.

Way too heavy of a battery. Heaviest I’ve used is a 2200
Also what fan? I’ve only used modern new fans like 12 blade Xfly or powerfun
I was also thinking, sometimes a failing ESC or a low quality ESC sometimes robs power
Edf and esc shouldn’t be the problem but will try a 2200 battery, thanks!
thanks for sharing the file, its just one file , can you help or guide us how to print ?
The .3MF file is the same as an STL just import it into your slicer.
Something in title about files free? Where to go for these. thanks
Sorry I forgot to remove that in the title after I changed the file to cults

Should be sub 1000g AUW with 1 layer. Can you tell me what your print temperature is set to? My LW pla results are stronger than pla

That loose canopy is definitely a liability that can cause critical issues in a split second.
Nothing that a modeler could not fix, furthermore considering this is for free
