Soprano Renee Fleming sings this aria. Dvorak's composition relies upon expansive arpeggiated chords to capture the fairy tale ambiance of Rusalka. The amicable old Spirit of the Lake, Jezibab, is enjoying the singing of the Wood Nymphs, when his daughter, Rusalka, sadly approaches him. She admits that she has fallen in love with a handsome prince. Yearning to know the bliss of union with him, she wishes to become human. Deeply saddened, the Spirit of the Lake consents to her request, and leaves. All alone, Rusalka sings this magnificent aria and shares the secrets of her longing to the moon.
Featuring the paintings and artwork of William Bouguereau, Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet, J.W. Waterhouse, Armand Guillaumin, and Spadecaller.
Lyrics (translation)
Silver moon upon the deep dark sky,
Through the vast night pierce your rays.
This sleeping world you wander by,
Smiling on man's homes and ways.
Oh moon ere past you glide, tell me,
Tell me, oh where does my loved one bide?
Oh moon ere past you glide, tell me
Tell me, oh where does my loved one bide?
Tell him, oh tell him, my silver moon,
Mine are the arms that shall hold him,
That between waking and sleeping he may
Think of the love that enfolds him,
May between waking and sleeping
Think of the love that enfolds him.
Light his path far away, light his path,
Tell him, oh tell him who does for him stay!
Human soul, should it dream of me, Let my memory wakened be.
Moon, moon, oh do not wane, do not wane,
Moon, oh moon, do not wane....
This is what happens when someone sits down to compose but ends by making a dream substance
If ever asked, "What if you had one song to listen for the rest of your life, what would that song be?" I honestly would say "Song to the Moon" by Antonin Dvorak
Beautiful. Thank you, Dvorak, you must have been sent by god.
We all are, even you
Sure.
I can't express how this song makes me feel. I heard it on "Driving Miss Daisy" and had to get more info.
Someone posted this song on my FB timeline for my birthday several years ago. It made me cry.
This is what's playing while pure souls get into heaven 💙
I keep coming back to this magnificent version of Dvorak's Song to the moon.
No matter how much I listen to this, it's just magical beyond what words can describe.
I have just saved this to my playlist. It's enchanting 🥰
Reading your comments, I think we all simply have no words to describe beauty such as this.
This is the epitomy of the human voice.
the moon... its existence is just so beautiful.
It's said that if you bathe your whole body in the light of the autumn moon , you will live longer .
Listening to her exquisite soprano will add 10 years to your life expectancy
What's interesting about getting chills, is, they're totally involuntary, which really indicates something has real value.
Incantevole.
A lady that was singing so nice in front of St.Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh brought me here and the help of my sister which recognised the song and author ❤
This is what I think heaven must be like, what an experience to have in our lifetime 🥰💞
Thank you for not making me google the translation. 🙂
I am touched by her clear voice that sings the outpouring of heart of Water,s Spirit in love .
her signature song, always on her list in any concert...
Indescribable beauty
Indescribable comfort
Indescribable feeling
and something indescribable
After listening to Fleming's incomparable soprano ,
I may dream of joy and sorrow of the falling in love with someone
Listening to Fleming's breathtaking soprano ,
I might have a dream of nostalgic my late beloved mother .
That is the ultimate in bliss for me
I want to give the feeling of thanks again to nostalgic my late beloved mother
My tears is a testament of long farewell and sincere tribute to you , Mother .

Antonin immediately captured my attention when I first heard his works in music class at school in 1970. He has a special place in my heart and I have visited the great man's grave in Prague to pay my homage and respect. His mastery of melody & harmony is omnipresent in his works from the captivating 'tunes' within his gorgeous 'Slavonic Dances Opus 46 & 72' to masterpieces like this that grip you in an entirely different way. The highlight of my next visit to Prague will be getting a train from the city to the north and alighting at Nelahozeves - his birthplace - to visit the town that gave us this musical genius and by a method of transport that appropriately enough he was so fascinated and captivated by.
This opera is in Czech. I discover right now that Dvorak was born in Boemia.
It's a wonderful piece, thank you very much for put it on with these amazing paintings. Ciao.
same moon all over the earth,so everybody should love this
It's just... astounding! You know?
it's not just the glorious sound but she reaches right inside my heart with the haunting feeling of a dream slipping away.
words cannot express how unbelievably beautiful this piece is. I just close my eyes and I am taken to another place instantly...
dvorak, man. did it again
One of the most passionate, tender, embracing, romantic, stunning arias ever written!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Diva Fleming and Maestro Dvorak!!!
:°°°)
Renee Fleming owns this piece of music.
coming from a death metaler this is some seriously emotively powerful stuff, struck deep.
Same
It's not weird. Metal fans are more refined in taste than the average person. Appreciation of vocals is high.
A gracious response from a Death Metaler 👍💪
Easily one of the best arias ... of all time. So touching; so poignant. Not always recognized as the great lyricist he was, Dvorak went way beyond his considerable talents with this! A close friend of Brahms (who felt Dvorak was the better song-writer), few ever listen to his great Symphony #7 ... dark, brooding, powerful. It's the equal of any symphony Brahms or others wrote, stopping short of Beethoven, and I'm not Beethoven's biggest fan.
A beautiful piece of music that so often gets overlooked.

In memory of my late mother .
This pensive song was heard when I was in my mother,s womb .
I heard the sound of my beloved mother,s heart beating .
My mother was near the fireplace , and I was listening to this pensive song in the womb of my mother with the sound by which trees burst .
I wish my daughter would remember me as kindly as you do your mother.
If you will fight for freedom, fight for that too. Does she even know you wish it? That it all wounds you and bereaves you both?
@@manthasagittarius1 Yes I have expressed my love for her in many ways. We are far apart in our ideas. Maybe being 40 years older than her has put us asunder. She has been a difficult child and now a vitriolic adult who is very much in the world. But I pray for her and there’s always hope. Thank you for your comment.❤️🙏🏼

From
A corner of Tokyo where is full of sorrow and grief and anger
@@shin-i-chikozima I’m so sorry to hear that you are sad! I was in Tokyo for about a week in the early 1990s for a Mike Tyson fight. My then husband was covering the fight for CNN.
The world is in turmoil, everywhere. I pray for peace. Pax Christi, my new friend!
In this world , only our mother,s love and her stupendous soprano can be heartily appreciated .
I am listening to her singing song with tears in my eyes.
Has to be my favorite Dvorak piece of music. So underated.

Oh... you had me at the music. Then I found and read and the lyrics, and I am weeping uncontrollably.
It makes me feel enamored . It is so touching ! Thank you Dvorak for your gift for all humanity , we thank you so much !
I've been loving this masterpiece since I was a child. Nothing is changed: this music makes my heart tremble still now, everytime I listen to it. Thankyou Dvorak!
Here here Dvorak . 😭
THE, most beautiful song ever composed. The song to end all other songs...
Upon hearing this I am reminded that Mankind is not a mere clever animal; we are a living connection to the Divine. Our souls carry the Divine within and are moved by beauty. We are God's bridge to His wondrous creation. I am awestruck and humbled that a fellow being could create such beautiful sounds.
I think I posted 7 years ago, but I can't find it. My mother died 7 years ago, August 28, 2016. I never knew this piece, but a day or two after she passed, this was brought to me. (by my mother) The song's story is that of my mother looking down on her beloved husband who was lost, "I just want her back", he said. On the night of her passing the moon was up and ever so lovely. Later, just before her body left the house, a hummingbird hoovered beside me on the porch, then went to the front door and hoovered, then flew up into a tree. After the hearse drove away, I watched the clouds rush in from the west welcoming what appeared to me to be an angel cloud ascending, with the morning sun shining behind it. All my mother's departed family members had come to welcome her home.
Wunderschön gesungen ❤❤!! So stimmungsvoll! Ich bin auch eine Mondanbeterin!!🎉🙏
Enchanting... Magical... Beautiful...❤

opera has the most beautiful melodies written.
I enjoyed the accompanying images as much as the music. thanks for putting this together and sharing.
Such a beautiful aria, there are just no words to describe a beauty like that!
They do not make music like this anymore...
Hey, just wait a second there, Game of Stones! We have Beyonce, have we not?
^ Not even funny.
Check Gorecki no. 2 and don't say that again
good music not always coming out the same pace, same with singers, hard to beat 70 and 80's on the opera stage, maybe looking forward next 10 years, something could happen
This is why I love Dvorak, never heard this before and am new to opera and classical music, having only seen a translated Carmen. Would you know which other opera is like this or simply good for newbies to try?
The best of the best !!! La escucho muy amenudo! Saludos!
so peacefully! Dream your dream! (and wake up in Paradice)
Dvo`r´ák siempre llega al sentimiento.y la Fleming es genial en muchas cosas. Verdaderamente bonito.

amazing voice
Měsíčku na nebi hlubokém
Světlo tvé daleko vidí,
Po světě bloudíš širokém,
Díváš se v příbytky lidí.
Měsíčku, postůj chvíli
Řekni mi, kde je můj milý
Řekni mu, stříbrný měsíčku,
mé že jej objímá rámě,
aby si alespoň chviličku
vzpomenul ve snění na mě.
Zasviť mu do daleka,
řekni mu, řekni mu, kdo tu naň čeká!
O mne-li duše lidská sní,
ať se tou vzpomínkou vzbudí!
Měsíčku, nezhasni, nezhasni!
Moon in the deep sky,
Your light sees far away ,
You wander around the wide sky
Peering into human dwellings.
Moon, stand still for a moment,
Tell me, tell where my beloved is!
Tell him silver moon,
That my arms are embracing him,
So that he for at least an instant
Remembers me in his dreams.
Shine to a distance for him, shine for him
Tell him, tell who is here waiting for him!
If his human soul is dreaming about me,
May that remembrance awake him!
Moon, don't disappear, don’t disappear!
Merci
Thank you 😊
So beautiful, marvelous. Thanks for the lyrics translation.
Heavenly, beautiful music. Sung with passion.
Bello video para una hermosa melodía, gracias .

Impressionant. Una veritable obra d'Art !!!
This song found me during a full moon
The mystery is gone. It's all digital now. My heart pines for the numinous and the mysterious.
This is so beautiful. Thank you for uploading!
Very peaceful!
I think we forget to believe, that's what happened i think. No more music like this, and i forget to believe too. Thanks to all music that make us remember.
Petr Machane believe what
If you are a fish, it would be good to believe in water. If you are a man, it would be good to believe in God. They both serve the same purpose.
Arlo Thompson I believe in the all seeing flying spaghetti monster as I in fact identify sexually as a rigatoni noodle
Airehead Lazington , I hear you!
Arlo Thompson water for fish is what air is for man, your just spewing random religious stuff
They had part of this song in Driving Miss Daisy.
Piccola luna, così alta nel cielo,
la tua luce mi trafigge da lontano,
tu erri per il vasto mondo,
tu vedi le cose degli umani.
Piccola luna, fermati un istante,
dimmi dov’è il mio amore!
E digli, piccola luna d’argento,
che per me tu l’avvolgi fra le tue braccia,
digli che, almeno per un istante,
egli si ricordi di me in sogno.
Rischiaralo, laggiù, molto lontano,
e digli quanto l’aspetto!
E se io apparissi in sogno, a quest’anima
umana,
forse si sveglierebbe con il ricordo!
Ah, piccola luna, non nasconderti, non
nasconderti, non nasconderti!
