    Glad you're doing well mate. Younger guy pushing 30, the amount of bitter pessimism surrounding entering the trades later in life is demoralising, but your positive attitude helps put things into perspective. Cheers

    I found your channel when you first began and I identified with you! At the time I was living in Mexico, working as a teacher. But that was not what I really wanted. I have always wanted to get into a trade, but in Mexico trades pay very poorly and there is no room for advancement. Fast forward to today, I'm 42 going on 43, my family and I have moved to Sydney, I have retired from teaching, and I am now studying my Cert II Electrotechnology pre-apprenticeship course. I hope to get a electrical apprenticeship this year. Thanks for your videos! Keep it up!

    Your video 2 years ago about this topic versus this one is shocking. You look and sound x10 better 😂

    What were you doing before you started the apprentiship? What pay should we expect as an old apprentice mid 30s first year in Melbourne?

      I was in sales before I started. So yer big cut in the pay packet. As for pay for you mate, I'm not sure hey. It will vary depending on employer. At a guess thinking it would be around that 25 to 28 an hour. Biggest thing is to really look at your spending in detail and work out a budget. You know where you stand then.

    Funny, this video popped up in my feed after I started considering an apprenticeship at the age of 50! And I never even searched for a single video on the subject.:)

    Do you intend to go out solo? Maybe go builder route? If you can go back, would you pick electrical/plumbing instead?

      All good questions. Honestly mate I'm happy where I am hey. Positives defiantly out way negatives. As for a different trade, Carpentry has always been the trade for me. I love building shit. I have such a better understanding of construction overall.

    So I'm a 27-year-old nurse in New Zealand, don't really wanna do nursing anymore. Would I be okay trying to get an apprenticeship if I literally know nothing about carpentry? Do they teach you from scratch I mean?

      Hi Mate, being honest is key, I think. Let all involved know you know nothing. Getting taught from scratch is the idea, regardless of age. Keep us all posted.

    Did you do any sort of pre trade?

    • @midlifecarpentry
      @midlifecarpentry  4 місяці тому +1

      I didn't no. In saying that though I did stuff back at school (a little while back). And mucked around with Reno's on a home I own in the past. Is that what you wanted to know?

      @@midlifecarpentry Yeah thanks mate. I worked as a trade assistant for 2 years before joining the military, but I'm finding the military isn't giving me the experience I wanted, so I'm looking at getting an apprenticeship but I'm a little worried I'll have trouble as I haven't done a pre trade. Thanks for your feedback.
