Based on what I've seen of his cards, he seems to have been designed with theme in mind, like you suggested, and that theme is "annoy everyone you're playing with". Putting more stress on your multi-player buddies with acceleration tokens, as well as an obligation that you could literally just keep yapping and your allies/other players can't assist you on your turn, just for you to be like "ok FINE I'll take it seriously for one second" and then obliterate whatever's in front of you. It is VERY deadpool. Just doesn't seem very fun if you aren't screwing around in multiplayer.

that is the thing about Deadpool you are not trying to win just to troll your mortal teammates while relishing in the chaos you create (not as fun solo)

That's what's great about this game. There's different styles for everyone. my copy of Deadpool is on the UPS truck today. I'm the last stop so I'll have him around supper time. It's the same with dungeon crawler games. I never click with a Bard. Tank and damage dealer characters all the way! I have all the marvel Champions stuff and have played them all. I definitely like some over others but I am glad they all exist. I know people like characters I don't. It's the variety that drives buzz and keeps the content coming! All great points in the video.

I think with Deadpool's obligation, it looks like you would have to take 4 separate sources of damage to get rid of it. I think it's there to prevent the combo of taking all of your health but 1 and dealing insane damage because if you take 21 damage or whatever all in one go, that only puts 1 threat on his nemesis side scheme, so the card would be around giving you extra encounter cards.

Exactly, it makes you use HPs to get rid of it slowly so you can't use the HP for other things.

Although his katanas take care of the big minions and the side scheme lol

I don’t own Deadpool yet (and haven’t played him); but based on what I have watched on your and other content creator’s videos , your analysis seems on point. He would be a character to play every now and again because of the chaos inherent in his cards. I also liked the way you went to the rules to clarify a potential issue with one of his cards. That is very helpful.

I like to play him in protection in 3 player games. I focus on being a jerk to the villain by using exhausting personality continually with mutant education, it ain’t over, and bringing in sonic rifle with armed to the teeth. I use multiple man to aid table set up, iron fist for stuns and black widow for encounter cancellation. His attack cards I don’t play. Sometimes it’s good to not use him for rush and really let other heroes shine.

Deadpool is going to be the character I play when I want a challenge and I don't think I'll be playing him in anything but the pool aspect. He's too stressful to be an every day character for me.

I had a curved experience with Deadpool, at first I really enjoyed him due to the damage he could do. As I played him a few more times I was getting a bit fed up with how quick the games were but then I played Deadpool against Mansion attack. This game really highlighted how much fun you could have with Deadpool. The aim was to take out all 4 villains forcing you to have a longer game and make decisions even when rushing. I played him in aggression so it was really fun to try and stay on top of the main scheme while also adding on acceleration tokens. Everytime i had Cable in my hand i had to play him because he was absolutely clutch, thwarting for 4 or hitting for 5. I used exhausting personality to draw 5 cards at 2 different times in the game!
The game was insane and was one of the best experiences ive had with MC. Its also really interesting when Pyro comes in and all of a sudden his forced response stops you from going to AE because you'll just die. One thing i found interesting with Deadpool was just how much use you get out of AE supports which you rarely get to do in this game. The amount of flipping really showed me how unexplored this mechanic is in the game and how much area for scope there is with it.
I used surprise attack in the deck and because of Deadpools flipping I was able to use it to trigger fluid motion consistently giving you more options when in hero form if multiple minions where on the table.
I think if you don't want the rush but still want to use Deadpool as his meant to be used the scenario you choose becomes so important. In solo for me playing against mansion attack was soo much fun because it allowed me to do just that. I enjoyed this game even more so then beating Thanos in 3 turns (although admittedly this did feel amazing).
I havent played Deadpool in pool yet but damn that game made me a real fan of his deck

Superior half bought me Deadpool for our anniversary. Reminds me of a “Mono Black Deck” in MTG. I find it VERY interesting.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have fun with him as a solo player. I have had a good time going for a more control or slower build, eventually letting Cable hit for a lot with 3 acceleration tokens on the main scheme. But, I think how I play Deadpool really depends on the scenario and the modular sets I shuffled in. I have yet to really crazy rush with him. I see it this way, while his cards let him do crazy 40+ damage per turn but they also let him slowly win while relying on his immortality to survive while slowly adding more tokens to build up his power. But, to each their own. Looking forward to your 'Pool aspect thoughts!

It’s too bad Armed to the Teeth says “any aspect”. It would have been fun if he could pull weapons from other heroes, like venom’s multi gun. That seems so Deadpool to me.

But then you could also play Wolverine's Claws which would work so well with the taking damage part.

Marvel Champions, in a designer mindset, is when it comes to coming up with ways of making the new hero(es)/villain(s) work is that they're stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one side, they want to get the character done right. They want the theme to come out as smooth as possible. But on the flip side, they want the character's mechanics to fit the game's mechanics. With some characters, the theme is spot on perfect, but they don't play as well or their new mechanics don't synch up with the already established mechanics that MC is built on. And with other characters, they are a blast to play. Everything in their kit is easy to understand and when you come out with a win, it feels amazing; but then the realization comes and you think to yourself, "I didn't feel like I was (insert character here)." It's a balancing act where sometimes, the designers nailed it. And for a good handful of characters, they felt off in some way. But at the end of the day, I do my best to no yuck anyone's yum.

Was waiting for your take because I'm not that hyped for the character or the mechanic. The most I was hoping were some new aspect cards to refresh Starlord, whom I do like instead.. but then, the Pool aspect. This does sound like a Starlord 2.0 if we're talking about the risks you take, but still feels a bit too much in terms of balance both positives and negatives. If we have to make a parallel with videogames, the game mechanics so far have behaved like a MOBA (more focus on strategy and coordination), and Deadpool mechanic looks more like a Battle Royale (more focus on just survival, whatever the cost, whoever else remains alive). Its sounds fun and I'm down to try it.. I just feel like just one Hero Pack falls short to introduce this kind of a switch. An expansion pack with a larger card pool would have given more options. I know they can release more hero packs later on but I'm thinking more of the approach. I.e. Deadpool versus MaGog, there you have a survival kind of experience. For the Pool aspect you'll make the separate video but I mean, I could imagine anyone going into the Arena against Magog with the Pool aspect just to smash each other. Then.. maybe Rhino could do it? Why not? That's why I feel its own expansion could make it feel like a larger event instead of.. just one messy, crazy player at the table. Makes sense?

After playing the game a few times I randomize my modules, and I can tell you I've been killed with Deadpool quite a few times because I don't know my encounters well enough!

I would lke to know from FFG why didn't they do something like this for She Hulk who's been braking the fourth wall way before him.

Great review. I’m really interested to see where Deadpool lands after a couple months.
Do you feel like if his alter-ego ability didn’t let you grab the two cards you need for his rush strategy, that he would be more fun?

    • @D20Woodworking
      @D20Woodworking  8 місяців тому

That may also be a part of it. It is soooo easy to grab those cards and flip back up

@@D20Woodworking gotcha, I wondered about that because it seems to be a pretty direct sequence. I noticed a couple other reviews that said he was more fun when played in longer/slower games. Seems like there could have been more balance such as if it was only once-per-game.

    Pros: More X-Force support.
Cons: The Pool aspect is gimmick trash that doesn't help anyone but Gamora so she can run Cut-Upper.

To be fair. As a gamora player. It was almost worth it just for that ha
