I heard a piggy in London whinging about stress & danger in the job. A woman patiently explained the 3 most stressful & dangerous jobs in London are Bus driver, ambulance crew & food delivery. And the police choose to make the job far more dangerous than it is.
I grew up on a farm, which is almost always the most dangerous or second most dangerous in the UK. I've had to go wading into rivers in flood to save animals, work with machinery that could chop me into tiny pieces (once had to get my thumb sewn back on), and use chemicals that could do serious injury. Policing is not a dangerous job. In reality, builders, fishermen, farmers, drivers etc. put themselves in far more danger than police.

They stopped and searched him because he avoided them, but that isn't reasonable suspicion, which needs to be of a particular offense. Unfortunately for the lad, he has history, is known by the police, and his actions may well have been suspicious given his history. He may have been in breach of his bail conditions if he was on bail. We don't know all of the circumstances regarding this lad and the friends he passed the bag to. We can't have it both ways, keeping the streets safe or ignoring the actions of known troublemakers. We need to be careful about letting our frustration with the police force in general taint our perspective of everything they do.

Apart from the shoulder number I feel the police acted ok. The young lad had an order on him preventing him from going into town due to drugs. To be honest when I go into town nowadays all you get are homeless and crackies. Fair play being homeless is not fun however there are more and more scam homeless in town that make a fortune and go back to their council flat to watch their new 75in tv. Nobody here is claiming that he is an angel, but you still need reasonable suspicion for a search. They stopped and searched him because he avoided them, but that isn't reasonable suspicion, which needs to be of a particular offense. Avoiding the police isn't a crime, and there are plenty of reasons why a perfectly innocent person would do that.

Unfortunately for the lad, he has history, is known by the police, and his actions may well have been suspicious given his history. He may have been in breach of his bail conditions if he was on bail. We don't know all of the circumstances regarding this lad and the friends he passed the bag to. We can't have it both ways, keeping the streets safe or ignoring the actions of known troublemakers.
We need to be careful about letting our frustration with the police force in general taint our perspective of everything they do.

If a person is known to be on bail etc, known for drugs and that person appears to be waiting for something, the constable is entitled to suspect that person might be engaged in some form of illicit drug behaviour or whatever, We don't want drugs on the street. The police are not always wrong. On this occasion, I think you are wrong and just being a nuisance.
In the past AB has aided and abetted a shop lifter in the act. If AB was to defend a guy who later that day killed a child in a robbery he may find himself cancelled by UA-cam & fickle online supporters.

Apart from the shoulder number I feel the police acted ok. The young lad had an order on him preventing him from going into town due to drugs. To be honest when I go into town nowadays all you get are homeless and crackies. Fair play being homeless is not fun however there are more and more scam homeless in town that make a fortune and go back to their council flat to watch their new 75in tv. AB is good with getting over the right to film in public however getting involved with police work can be sketchy if he is not aware of the story. On that premise he needs to take some lessons from Mr Veitch.
