"Don't expect it but plan on it" is a great piece of advice. Thanks!
The odds of getting in are super low, but it's definitely worth submitting. If you're accepted, that can be huge; Sundance is definitely one of the best festivals out there! :)
This is a public work space so every so often we have folks walking in the background of Kyle's videos. : )
I never submitted to Sundance because I've heard of the horror stories about it having to be "walked in" and you have to know someone beyond the wall of intern screeners/gatekeepers, to get it into the hands of someone from the actual staff. My last two shorts won a number of other festivals but Sundance always seems like it's impossible, from what everyone says on the circuit. I have a couple days before the Early deadline this year... should I just submit it or should I do the "hustle" stuff and find someone who knows someone... which I hate the idea of, I just wish someone could watch it and go, "Awesome, that's in," without the politics. Like, last season, out of the gate, a big festival rejected my short... then it won a bigger festival and that same festival from before came to me asking to put it in their festival. SAME film... yet, because of "politics," now they wanted it. I dunno, it's frustrating. Everything Kyle says here is what I've already done... I made a film that's completely in my voice, not trying to be anything else, it's a story I'm proud of (enough where the LAFD liked the script and denoted a bunch of trucks to help out)... but I wonder what the best way to submit is. Just blindly? :/
Ronin Editor hi could you please send me links to your short movies, I would really like to watch them
Watch this … I learned not to be affected but what I hear and just believe in your work and if it doesn’t get in to a specific festival - it’s okay sometimes different festivals are looking for different things. It says here that the head of Sundance shorts watch the movies at random without knowing the creators - this was from 6 mos ago - ua-cam.com/video/HZNz_DZZkcM/v-deo.html
Oh my god he has the best tattoo ever! "My spoon is too big" Very cool. lol
thought i was the only one that would catch the hertzfeldt tat
I am interested in submitting my film into Sundance, am I required to get a patent before submitting?
I love the photo bomb. Good tips, thanks!
Believe Kyle is stating to follow all submission guidelines and submit your film that way. Yet if you have any connections, it certainly won't hurt to get those key influential folks to champion your movie.
I need some advice to get this guys holographic shirt
Thanks for the great ideas.
Mike o'connor What stage in the filmmaking process are you in?
