I've pretty much stopped trying to refer to chokes as the classic "full "
" modified " etc. because many of them vary so widely as to the actual
size when I measured them. One manufacturer's full might be the next company's x full turkey, so now I just
    say " six- eighty" , " six- fifty five " , etc.

This makes so much sense I've been researching different choke brands and seeing different patterns with the same "size" choke from each brand has been confusing but your comment actually helps alot

I tried the turkey choke about 30 years ago.
    About a 6" pattern at 50 yards.
    OBVIOUSLY, not squished!

I am not usually one of them safety nazi people... but you grabbed the choke with a loaded round... i know the chances of it going off are slim but.... stay safe brother.

I just wanted to say thank you for this video. There has been an ongoing debate as I run a 835 with a Jellyhead and buckshot. I’ve had a bunch of people tell me I’m going to end up blowing up the shotgun. Nice to see that other people are having similar results as to what I am.

Most people just want to tell you what to do because that’s what they’ve always heard will happen. If people would take the time to pattern their gun they’d be surprised.

Check out the video we did with the 835 and a kicks GT .680 choke. At 50 yards we were getting 7” spread with our handloads. It’s on my channel.

My husband and I build shotguns, these new guns with screw in chokes are cylinder bore from chamber to choke, then the load has about 2" to settle down and pattern, take it from a woman 2" ain't enough 😂,The old fixed chokes for example 30" full go from chamber modified 4" then full for 24" the load is settled

    • @nickolasthefrog

How long do you think the “settling” portion needs to be? Would an old full choke still pattern if cut to 10”?

I shot some 00 buck through my 18 in Winchester home defense sxp with the cyl choke it came with. At 30 yards I got 5 of 9 pellets on a 30 x 28 inch target. The closes two holes were 10 inches apart. Same gun, same ammo with a .667 X full choke. All 9 on the target,, 6 holes in a 10 inch circle, 2 just outside the circle and 1 flier. I think I found my new coyote gun.

.700 is considered a "full" choke. Anything less is considered extra full or turkey. I'm a big choke tube guy as you can tell. Because they DO make a difference.

Good job. I've only started getting worse buck shot patterns when I go below .680 constriction or so. Not sure what the Jelly Head choke is. But, for sure better pattern than the light mod.

Jamie Sloan the jelly head is .655, very tight. I’d like to test my Briley full this fall, I think it will give a better pattern than the turkey choke. This choke dropped 2 deer last fall.

I usually use the coyote choke which is excellent for 00buck but only have turkey available for my beretta a300, has anyone shot slugs through turkey chokes? Just wondering as i usually will load 1 slug and 2x 00buck but am kind of hesitant to try it

My Father had a Remington 1100 Magnum with a 30 inch vent rib, fixed Full choke on it. I measured the Choke at the muzzle it was .682 inch.
With Winchester 3 inch Double X copper coated lead 2 shot it would put 92% inside a 30 inch circle at 40 yards.
Same shell with BB shot 98% at 40 yards.
Shot Coyotes and Turkey with those shells before shot size regs came into play.

00 buck stacked by 2’s in a wad is .660, full choke on a 12 gauge is .700. Plenty of room left over. I shoot up to 0000 buck .380 cal stacked by 2’s no wad petals in 12 gauge and get awesome patterns at 40 with a .680 choke. Pure lead foster slugs will shoot through a full choke too in any gauge.
