Ken I bought the D800 today and it is a FUCKING BEAST! Loving it, DR is absolutely NUTS, and colour depth is a photographer's wet dream. Cannot get enough of it man, thanks for your recommendations!

Call me a D750 fan, but the camera does hold its own for portraiture. Who the hell needs 36 megapixels for a portrait? Perhaps for fashion, when you want to put that portrait on the side of a building or on a giant billboard. But for normal use, no. You've heard the term "monster face?" Just try taking a portrait of a normal person at 36 megapixels. Ew! At 24.3 megapixels, the D750 is a great all-round performer and yes, it's low light performance is better than the D800 series. A pro photographer I know told me Nikon didn't get it right on the 800 series until the D810 and yes, he won't part with it. The D800 has an AA filter and two different recall issues. I don't know what issue he had with the D800e aside from the noisy shutter. Anyway, the D810 doesn't have to "dance on the skull" of the D750 because the D750 isn't dead. ;)

I can confirm Kens statement, D810's are Thai manufactured at a Nikon plant. It is a work of art great to hold. I think, do date, it is the best camera in the world, I'll never part with mine. :)

I absolutely LOVE my D810. If it smashed tomorrow I would rush out and buy another. But lets hope that does happen!! (It's insured BTW :D )

I think high iso performance is really important for weddings.

You constantly go on about D810 not being used for sports. I use it for everything, have absolutely no problem shoot action at all.

"Like hell!" lol Love to quote you man. Well, my D750 coughed up blood. I think it's a shutter issue. No matter the settings there's a huge black line on the top of the pic. I entered the serial number on Nikon's site and my camera isn't affected by the shutter issue. Hmmmmm. Purchased the D810 and getting it tomorrow with a bunch of freebies from Amazon. Man, I treated the 750 like a lady. Now I want to smash it with a hammer hehehe.

I love "obsolescence"! I just saw a D810 with low shutter count for under $600. (Late 2023). That beats the hell outta $3000 in 2016.

I own 2 D800's... I have been thinking about "upgrading" to a D810 for a couple of years. I shoot a lot of real estate with them.I do some portrait work and a wedding or two or three per year. I use the D800 for portraits and a D3s along with a D800 for weddings. I have a D600 for "fun".

The d700 is a great camera. I agree with you on that and many of your comments regarding lenses are pretty good as well.

I'm doing more and more portraiture, and this thing seems to be evolving really well, but I have a D7100, and I'm thinking to upgrade to FX specially for a more comfortable and bigger viewfinder and the great 24-70mm lens. I'm thinking to look for a used low shutter count D800E. Does it make sense to buy it right now in 2017 considering that it is a 5+ years camera model?( Well, maybe the one I get left the factory 3 years ago, who knows). Should I do it or choose a used D750 or even a D610?

I feel like I've been living under a rock. Wish I had came across your recommendation when I was sourcing a camera to begin my photography journey. The D800 is still a beast in 2022. Hopefully I'll be getting one sometime.

Question: I have a nikon 24-120mm 1.4G, and i want to get a 70-200mm lens, is there that much difference between the two to justify the price of the 70-200?... i wanted to do some simple sport shooting like on a soccer field. Or should i dump the 234-120 and get the 70-200... Or maybe gt a 70-300.... can you please give me some advise.. tks
