- slant six 170 with clifford intake & exhaust. weber 2brl carb and champion 3 row raditor. been waiting to get my car to this point for a while. been saving parts here and there for about a year now. just set the timing on it, and for the most part everythin went well except the exhaust...had about a 3 inch hole to fit a 2.25 inch pipe. its not quite finished yet, just excited to use as my first you tube video :)

Need them in line sizes back now. They were tough
Beautiful! I want one!!
Good ole fun engines!!
Very dependable!!
i replaced the timing chain for pre-maintenance...and yes basically just headers intake and carb...i would LOVE to cam it and all..but you forget something...MONEY!!! and since this is only the 170 (not the 225) i didnt care about putting that much more into it
@monkay92 fuel system is the original furl pump, but runs to a filter, reg, than fuel gauge to keep a constant flow to the carb, the reg is a redline, other parts i got off ebay and local auto shop (not an auto zone or napa kind)
If I had known about this with my mom's 1982 Chrysler New Yorker (that had the slant six, not the 5.2)
Good engine, nice build
yes true...except the 170 and this carb arent meshing well...i think it maybe to many cfm cause tunig it to prime hasnt been easy, i need to contact weber get some small jets and im sure it will hype the low end better
jack has passed away some years back his son now runs the buisness. now lives in wildomar ca and its all done from his garage :) been up there a few times have him help me tweak things around..currently my car has gone hay wire ive been fed up with it, these weber carbs have been...well crap really for the past 2 years...never seem to hold one setting idk i just need time to go through the carb/ignition more
thank you, it taken some time, yet i wish i spent a little more making it "perfect"just know better for next time
Thanks, yeah in the process now of doing a full tune up, then I need to pull the engine, only problem is that I don't have the tools or a engine lift to do so. hopefully I can afford one, one day. Yeah ill check out the cherry bombs, just worried I wont like them but then again they are inexpensive and cheap to get rid of as well.
Thanks for the info
Wow thats a real great looking slant6.I love the chrome valve cover. And the intake.I am rebuilding my 67 slant6 for my dodge truck it was the original motor.I bought me a chrome valve cover they really dress those engines up.Love your engine thanks,,
true using the exhaust heat is a "faster" way to meet operating temp than coolent, but in high temp it keeps everything at a constant.before this set up, here in so cal, with temp outside in the 100's, i would come off the freeway and vapor lock was killing my running ability, if i turned the engine off, id have to let it cool almost completely. this manifold is great.depending on the set-up. this particular clifford agreed "one of the most difficult ive seen" due to short firewall & shift links
Moparfan63 yeah
awesome..im experimenting with some different carbs, here the carb isnt adjusted as for the valve cover i love is except for one thing...there is no splash guard on the inside if the cover and ive been doing almost everything i can to keep the breathers from filling up with oil then leaking to the ground...good luck!
Ultimate sleeper!!
hi.
i had a 1974 koup green dodge dart.
was a great car & had lots of nice memories.met my first love and experienced passion.
god bless iran.
Nice
@Contuver its the stock cam, its only the 170 so i wasnt going for high increase of horsepower, just a few more balls, and better gas milage.
If you have split manifolds vs the singular it should work, I have a 74 Scamp 225 with dual manifolds and Clifford intake fits like a charm.
Yeah Charlie, if you have split exhaust manifolds it should work, but if its a single manifold its a no go, have to change it to dual.
sweet, thanks.
it is water heated....you can clearly see the hoses that connect to the lower part of the intake. i favor this cause sometimes when the engine is to hot (happens often here in cali) i get vapor lock all to often, never been a prob since this intake has been on
no there a single 2.5 all the way until the tip which is i believe a 3.5 stainless steel which i chose cause its easy to clean, wont ever look bad, and the large diameter make a great sound,, all of that is not in this video, but from the cuplinks they go from 2.25-2.5 quickly
2-barrel Weber carburetors are the best carbs for any Mopar Slant Six.
cool...wasnt aware the slant six came stock with split manifolds
yes i have been wanting to..see what i can find from holly. but right now i need a truck lol so car will be postponed for a while :( how car restoration goes lol
plan on keeping the /6 :) love the gas mileage and fun driving..hve a 73 challenger with a 340 4speed (bored to a 416 ci) stroker for fun...
needs a ceramic nball bearing turbo with a shot into the turbo housing to spool it up ,
true..choke was not set..also turns out im going to get the weber 32/36 instead of using this 38/38..lose about 12% power..but work hell alot better in the 170 since most my power is higher rpm..
i pulled the whole motor out and got some paints and did alot of work. wish i had the 225...but oh well lol, runnin dual super 40's can "gargle" the "small" motor if ur gonna run dual try 2" exhaust, and glass packs like cherry bombs)
ebay is my best friend..a body parts are hardest to find, if you find a user on ebay named AtoZ mopar he is great! i go to him 1st for all my stock parts from junk yards
Wasn't a fan the styling of a lot of Dodge & Chrysler cars in the early & mid '60'sbut the 225 slant six was a really great engine and I coming to appreciate it more & more. It is too bad Dodge & Chrysler/Plymouth didn't try to stay with the slant 6 by coming out with a multi-point fuel injection system & manifold. My Magnum 3.9 Dodge Dakota is great but I think more couldhave been done to save a great engine like the 225 slant six. I would like to see a new DOHC or 3 valve OHC slant six engine of about 3.3-3.9 liters. With an under square design for more lower end torque. Perhaps 96 cm/3.77 inch stroke so it could have a moderately long stroke but still rev fairly high.
COOL!
Well i may make a couple of baffles and just bolt them into my valve cover.I wonder why the after market kind don't have them? They could have added them and saved us the trouble its causing.Glad you told me about that. You mite want to make you a baffel.Get me some crome bolts small ones drill 4 holes and bends sone sheet metak and its done haha Thanks paul
didnt want to cut up my fenderwell..also i lowered the front end a bit and put bigger tires
dual headers..but there in NO room for dual exhaust all the way back..it would take alot to make it dual exhaust..in this video there is no muffler..had hard time deciding which muffler be best for it, finally decided to put a cherry bomb on to save some money for now, still sounds great but im sure there is better out there
no cam, its only a 170 so didnt wanna drop to much into it. this video was right when we got it in an running, lititerally just finished the exhaust but has been redone since the collars kept breaking the original collar gaskets, mush better now. I love this car but is currently up for sale, use to be my daily driver but i use a truck now.
not see the 2.5" pipe running next to the shift linkage there?? spent 2 days bending pipe fitting, tacking, tweaking to just get that in..yes a V8 will fit (64 and up had less firewall made that easyer) also being said the exhaust is being dump one on each side..this is both on one...on the automatic trans there is more room, with the 3 on the tree, unless you go under the K frame there is NO room for 2 pipes to move through it
i spent around &1,400 give or take check out clifford performance .co not sure if prices have changed, this was alot of work im still tweaking it around (so far weber carb has not impressed me...fluxuates alot)
I need help with my slant six
The heater hoses warming the intake manifold is great...how long does it take to get up to operating temperature?...I have to make a decision about my exhaust...manifold is cracked beyond repair...replace it with stock manifold or headers?...decisions...
yes, its only the 170 was not going for alot more horses, just some extra balls while keeping great gas millage, also it takes money and stuff and if i cam it i would want to get head work to which clifford himself lives only 15 min from me he has his guys who do great work on these engines..it all just takes money....
its my daily driver.
hello friend, really this beautiful your slant six, as you achieve that beautiful sound? for a moment I thought you had free escape, but then I saw that no, you cam? this std and not?
nice i like this, what cam you running in there?
"Dad n I set the timing on it" How many people does it take.
Where'd ya get the valve cover!?!
Looks like a cheap spectra unit made in Taiwan probably leaks like crazy
Where you find your raditor ?
thank you very much for the reply, I served aguiarme couple I wonder the price but really is something that does not matter since I'm from Venezuela, the last header pipes are 2.25 inches?? and the end is 3 inches right?
oh ok so its a cold start thats why it sounds loopy? well anyyway nice /6!\
I am running a 225 with the same cliffords and weber carb. How did you get yours to sound so clean? I have super 40 dual flowmasters as well but still doesn't sound this clean what's your secret, I have a video of my Scamp up if you want to check out what I am talking about. Thanks
I have a 225 in my 68 Plymouth Belvedere....would love to do this to it...good job man!!!!!.....how much do you have invested in it so far?
How much power she pushin?
Sadly i sold it years back. The 170 never had much hp, but the heavy crank and long stroke gave it great torque. I had 2 carbs id use. 1 for "city driving" another for spinning tires. Never dynod, but i did have some good races against other cars of its era
nah that all cost money that i dont wanna drop in it lol
Whats your fuel system set up?
how streetable is that setup?
You running dual exhaust or single?
I ran single and ended before rear wheel on driver side. The exhaust was pretty low (sometimes scraps on big speed bumps) so kerping it in the "gutter" under the car was a must. If i used small pipes prolly woukd have done double
no it cannot...but i believe an offenhauser will but dont quote me
Thats Bend some sheet metal LOL looks like i can't spell just wasn't watching what i wrote
keep the slant six fogget the v8s
no slant six
Way to my ugly red hose....
calthmlikiseethm are you familiar with the red hose?
Air filter is WAY too small to flow enough air.
Wadley225 I've sold the car (sadly) but it worked quite Well, it was part of the kit. anything thicker the good wouldn't shut
Nope actually that's the stock air cleaner for a Weber 32/36 carb
it is. larger diameter if the height is maxed out works. the typical 4 bbl air filter, back in the day wasn't enough to feed a big block. only the large oval type as used on a 6 bbl or dual quad setup was big enough. this testing done with the usual ppr element. granted this is only a 170 ci, but still.
Thats not good..
Well, nothing was dialed in...if you listened to the video, we just BARELY set the timing. Never dialed in the carb yet, it was also a cold start.
Drove the car for 3 years after that. Only issue I had was a ballast resistor crapped out on me (it was original, 50+ years old)
Had to sell it when I moved...still miss that car.
Brother would send me pictures of it when he saw it out n about.
@@brethatch2244 why wouldn't you wait until you had everything sorted out then make a video
FAIL at the end of vid, LOL!!!
