slant six 170 with clifford intake & exhaust. weber 2brl carb and champion 3 row raditor. been waiting to get my car to this point for a while. been saving parts here and there for about a year now. just set the timing on it, and for the most part everythin went well except the exhaust...had about a 3 inch hole to fit a 2.25 inch pipe. its not quite finished yet, just excited to use as my first...

      Well, nothing was dialed in...if you listened to the video, we just BARELY set the timing. Never dialed in the carb yet, it was also a cold start. Drove the car for 3 years after that. Only issue I had was a ballast resistor crapped out on me (it was original, 50+ years old) Had to sell it when I moved...still miss that car. Brother would send me pictures of it when he saw it out n about.

    If I had known about this with my mom's 1982 Chrysler New Yorker (that had the slant six, not the 5.2)

    Wasn't a fan the styling of a lot of Dodge & Chrysler cars in the early & mid '60'sbut the 225 slant six was a really great engine and I coming to appreciate it more & more. It is too bad Dodge & Chrysler/Plymouth didn't try to stay with the slant 6 by coming out with a multi-point fuel injection system & manifold. My Magnum 3.9 Dodge Dakota is great but I think more couldhave been done to save a great engine like the 225 slant six. I would like to see a new DOHC or 3 valve OHC slant six engine of about 3.3-3.9 liters. With an under square design for more lower end torque. Perhaps 96 cm/3.77 inch stroke so it could have a moderately long stroke but still rev fairly high.

      Sadly i sold it years back. The 170 never had much hp, but the heavy crank and long stroke gave it great torque. I had 2 carbs id use. 1 for "city driving" another for spinning tires. Never dynod, but i did have some good races against other cars of its era

      it is. larger diameter if the height is maxed out works. the typical 4 bbl air filter, back in the day wasn't enough to feed a big block. only the large oval type as used on a 6 bbl or dual quad setup was big enough. this testing done with the usual ppr element. granted this is only a 170 ci, but still.

    You running dual exhaust or single?

    • @Moparfan63
      @Moparfan63 9 років тому

      I ran single and ended before rear wheel on driver side. The exhaust was pretty low (sometimes scraps on big speed bumps) so kerping it in the "gutter" under the car was a must. If i used small pipes prolly woukd have done double

    Thanks, yeah in the process now of doing a full tune up, then I need to pull the engine, only problem is that I don't have the tools or a engine lift to do so. hopefully I can afford one, one day. Yeah ill check out the cherry bombs, just worried I wont like them but then again they are inexpensive and cheap to get rid of as well. Thanks for the info

  • @ChaplainAndyAZ
    @ChaplainAndyAZ 11 років тому

    Yeah Charlie, if you have split exhaust manifolds it should work, but if its a single manifold its a no go, have to change it to dual.

  • @Moparfan63
    @Moparfan63 11 років тому

    cool...wasnt aware the slant six came stock with split manifolds

  • @ChaplainAndyAZ
    @ChaplainAndyAZ 11 років тому

    If you have split manifolds vs the singular it should work, I have a 74 Scamp 225 with dual manifolds and Clifford intake fits like a charm.

  • @Moparfan63
    @Moparfan63 11 років тому

    i pulled the whole motor out and got some paints and did alot of work. wish i had the 225...but oh well lol, runnin dual super 40's can "gargle" the "small" motor if ur gonna run dual try 2" exhaust, and glass packs like cherry bombs)

    I am running a 225 with the same cliffords and weber carb. How did you get yours to sound so clean? I have super 40 dual flowmasters as well but still doesn't sound this clean what's your secret, I have a video of my Scamp up if you want to check out what I am talking about. Thanks

  • @Moparfan63

    true using the exhaust heat is a "faster" way to meet operating temp than coolent, but in high temp it keeps everything at a constant.before this set up, here in so cal, with temp outside in the 100's, i would come off the freeway and vapor lock was killing my running ability, if i turned the engine off, id have to let it cool almost completely. this manifold is great.depending on the set-up. this particular clifford agreed "one of the most difficult ive seen" due to short firewall & shift links

  • @mschiffel1000
    @mschiffel1000 11 років тому

    The heater hoses warming the intake manifold is great...how long does it take to get up to operating temperature?...I have to make a decision about my exhaust...manifold is cracked beyond repair...replace it with stock manifold or headers?...decisions...

  • @Moparfan63
    @Moparfan63 11 років тому

    no there a single 2.5 all the way until the tip which is i believe a 3.5 stainless steel which i chose cause its easy to clean, wont ever look bad, and the large diameter make a great sound,, all of that is not in this video, but from the cuplinks they go from 2.25-2.5 quickly

    thank you very much for the reply, I served aguiarme couple I wonder the price but really is something that does not matter since I'm from Venezuela, the last header pipes are 2.25 inches?? and the end is 3 inches right?

    no cam, its only a 170 so didnt wanna drop to much into it. this video was right when we got it in an running, lititerally just finished the exhaust but has been redone since the collars kept breaking the original collar gaskets, mush better now. I love this car but is currently up for sale, use to be my daily driver but i use a truck now.

  • @Moparfan63

    yes, its only the 170 was not going for alot more horses, just some extra balls while keeping great gas millage, also it takes money and stuff and if i cam it i would want to get head work to which clifford himself lives only 15 min from me he has his guys who do great work on these engines..it all just takes money....

  • @Moparfan63
