On my 2005 I put the tail pipe out the side at a 90 degree angle and it does help with exhaust coming in the rear window another thing I did which you would really like is 2006 LED tail lights it's quite an upgrade and they're twice as bright

I hVe an 07 SR5 and when I pull out into traffic and have to "gun it" the entire cab area smells like sewer? My son catches the heat for farming in the car. Anyway did this mod help out with that?
Hey, couple questions; did you get your 4th gen with the top rack already on? If so, did it pull in fumes? I had 1st and 3rds and the difference was the spoiler was mandatory for 3rd gens but I’ve found that the 4ths could be ordered with out (far clunkier looking) a spoiler. That spoiler is the reason the fumes stay out of a 3rd gen. If your rack is not allowing air to get pulled in thru the spoiler, the backdraft pulls from the rear. Pretty cool if you eliminated it. I’m all electric but getting my father a 4th geb to replace his third (285k miles), time for a v8
My 4th gen came with the rear spoiler, still got fumes. With roof basket, fumes. With this mod and the basket, definetely less fumes. I have a 3rd gen with the spoiler, stock exhaust and the stock roof bars, still fumes lol
@@HawkeyeSkunkWorks for your 3rd gen, that can’t be right. If you’re traveling above 15 mph, the spoiler does it’s job. It’s not that I don’t believe you it’s more like there’s probably something else going on with your 3rd. I don’t know of any issues with the 2nd or 5th but assume the 2nd would have the same issues and Toyota would or should have fixed it by mandating the spoiler which they did with the 3rd, they all came with one. Then again, people claim there was the ability to purchase a 4th without it and I really don’t trust Toyota to do the right thing. The 5th gens are hideous and 11 years running making it look angry and insect like. Not to mention Toyota is lazy now and doesn’t innovate anymore. Xreas was the last thing that was an improvement. Besides fixing that horrible V6 for the 5th gen, Toyota is just making ok cars. I’ll see about this 4th gen v8 soon. Keep making great content
@@808kahulaa it’s pretty much an on going inside joke in the 4Runner community that the exhaust on runners smells and the spoiler doesn’t really actually do anything lol
@@HawkeyeSkunkWorks I respectfully disagree, some think it keeps the back window clean while that may or not be an additional benefit but the purpose of the spoiler is to spoil the backdraft. People tend to think spoilers and wings are the same, they are not. Wings push the rear down for traction

Sounds like you have clogged catalytic converters. Yes, this helped a lot with exhaust smell coming in the car through the back window
