    So refreshing to watch a modest rundown, not a $600k rig pumped up by sponsors. Well done mate 👍🏼

    Great rig 👍 refreshing to see a basic realistic Landcruiser, some people spend so much time and money to turn them into something that they weren’t designed for. They are a rough and tough old work Ute and that’s why we love them 😁

      Cheers Corbin! There really is no limit to how far you can go with these things. What we’ve got works for us. Sure there are things I’d love to add but you don’t really need them to get out there and go touring 👍🏼

    Everyone loves a good rig rundown! It's a great vehicle and you drive it well! We also try not to drive at night! Great info on the mods and just what you need to travel Aus!

    Been following you from the start. I was very impressed with your driving and the way the truck behaved up the cape. It looks like you have all you need without excess crap that you don’t. Well done guys 😊

      Hi Mick! Appreciate the kind words. You & me both. My uncle showed me when I was a young bloke how in most cases less throttle is better when 4wding. I finally got to put this to practice on the OTT. The 79 made light work out of it, that and the boys spotting made my job easy 👌🏼
      Also not having a canopy full of weight made a massive difference 💪🏼
      Thanks as always for watching 😊

    Stratos suspension seats my wife& I love them and when my wife went out with a friend who owns a prado she commented on how comfy the seats were. $3000 per seat including black duck seat covers but worth it if you are going to keep vehicle long term.

    You can get wheel spacers to fix the wheel track in the rear or change the rims and get a slightly larger offset in the rear.

    • @our.australia.trip.
      @our.australia.trip.  Рік тому

      Have thought about that, unfortunately both of those options aren’t practical for us having 350kg of ball weight over the rear means the additional force on the wheel bearings with spacers or offset would have us wearing wheel bearings twice or 3x as fast as usual which isn’t ideal! Have had no real issues with the track yet. She will be on the beach next week in the soft sand so that’s where we will really see it play up I reckon.

    • @heathballard5398
      @heathballard5398 Рік тому +1

      Fair point, there is the legalities with spacers too. Glad you're happy with the rig. Keep up the great content.

  • @Thunderbirds404
    @Thunderbirds404 Рік тому +1

    There is a way to fix that rear track without spending a fortune. A wider offset on the back than the front. Just that simple little mod, it’ll change the way the 70’s drive. But make sure you check those wheel bearings more often.

    • @Thunderbirds404
      @Thunderbirds404 Рік тому +1

      Back offset: -55
      Front offset 0 to -25.
      Carry 2 spares. One for the front & one for the back.

    • @our.australia.trip.
      @our.australia.trip.  Рік тому +1

      Hey mate! Thanks for the comment. I have contemplated this but considering the legalities and additional wear of bearings with 350kg of ball weight over the rear axle sees us sticking with the factory diff for now 👍🏼

    • @Thunderbirds404
      @Thunderbirds404 Рік тому

      Fair enough, I mean that back axle hasn't caused an issue yet soo...
      There are more ways to correct it, like:
      5 link coil conversion, in which why would you coz that's like $20,000.
      A full fabricated housing which is the easiest alternate from the 55's.
      A tru-tracker kit from Multidrive, where you get a grinder & basically, extend the axle by chopping the factory one's off.
      6x6 conversion but the Ute's fine as it us in the 4x4 configuration, besides, it's like, $25,000.
      There are more but leave all that till later when you get a bit more coin & more fish tailing. I just thought I'd drop all that in 😉

      6’2”. No issues. It sits higher in my point of view than the roof lining wrapping down to top of windscreen. Even the visitors still sit above that line.

  • @ClissaT
    @ClissaT Рік тому +1

    If you really wanted to put something on the back of the cruiser canopy, you could hang a rubbish bag or two there. I don't know what they are called, but the ones made from material specifically designed for the job. They usually hang off the spare wheel. But you don't have a spare wheel up there so just hang the rubbish bags directly on the back of the canopy.
    I was impressed by the fact it was a 2014 vehicle. Does it beep at you?

    • @our.australia.trip.
      @our.australia.trip.  Рік тому

      We already have a bin bag that hangs off the front of the van & that’s plenty for us 😊 Spare wheels would be good but the worst place to add weight is over the back there! It doesn’t beep at all only when you don’t put your seatbelt on or get out when the lights are still on 🙏🏼🙌🏼

      Hi Robb, its just a 250mm strip of tint. It stops a lot of reflection of the road and bonnet. It’s the top 3M stuff. Great for the big driving days keeping the glare and heat out of the cab 👍🏼

    Nice looking rig mate, did you have to do a GVM upgrade for the Land Cruiser?

    • @our.australia.trip.
      @our.australia.trip.  Рік тому +1

      Cheers mate! Yeah the GVM is 3630kg so +10% on the factory rating. Just enough to keep us out of trouble when the van is hooked up 👍🏼

    Nice vid guys. How does she tow without the axle correction? We're planning our 79 SC build now, coming from a Troopy, and tossing up whether to spend the money, lot of $$$ as you say, 7.5k Jamcx not sure about Multidrive or Dwiz yet. I've been told they become directionally unstable and can cause sway events because you're loading up the rear axle which magnifies the issue. Would you say spend the money if we can or can you get away without it. Van is only 2.4T.

    • @our.australia.trip.
      @our.australia.trip.  9 місяців тому

      Hey Mark, we haven't had any issues with stability towing. The only time you notice is in the soft sand on a beach, it does tent to fish tail a bit. Our rear axle when hitched is at it maximum and no issues on the black top or unsealed roads. Especially if you van is 2.4t I would try avoid if you want to save some $$$.

      Kind of. The tanks show empty at 80L so I always fill up around 160L. Usually average 20-22L/100km. Keep in mind we are almost always pulling 3-3.5t worth of van behind 👍🏼

      My HDJ100 is about 14-15l when towing the van. But it's smaller than yours.

      @@our.australia.trip. great clip, thanks. We also have a 1 79 series, and tow a 22 ft JB Dirt Road Extreme (3.5t). I have the engine mapped and added a 3' stainless exhaust, we also had the engine run the 24 hour overnight desoot, we just got back from a 1400 klm trip last week and we averaged 15.3 ltr per 100 klms. we are seriously happy with that outcome.
