My two favourite things for Jack to talk about:
1. The smurfs collection in 'The hating Game'
2. Anytime he mentions 'Jane Eyre Laid Bare'
He’s gotten a lot of mileage out of Jane Eyre Laid Bare for a book that he spent a pound on. 😆

"the first LOTR is just a bunch of creatures walking" why would you say something so controversial, yet so brave
As a huge fan of LOTR, I have to say, he’s not wrong. The first book is a bit of a slog (except Tom Bombadil). But I think it really pays off in books 2&3
Not wrong though
@@LukeMaynes lmao I lowkey hated tom bombadil when I first read it, found him really slow
And so wrong...

LOL 50 books in a year is a totally respectable goal… I just shoot for 12 :(
Mine's 20.
same here - i want to read 52 books this years for each week one
It's always good to see a 34 minute Jack Edwards video 😌✨

Nothing better🙌🙌🙌
I collect Smurfs and I won’t tell you why either 🤪
Michelle Zauner (Crying in H Mart) is also the lead vocalist and songwriter of the band Japanese Breakfast!! Her music is really good, I definitely recommend :) !!
Listening to her music again after reading crying in h-mart made me so emotional. The first two albums make so much sense and the song Psychopomp had me crying in public after realising that it’s her mom saying ‘it’s alright’ in Korean. Listening to jubilee again gives me more joy now because she deserves to be this happy. Paprika has been my fourth most played song of 2021.
No way I didn't know this!!
and she is now a grammy nominee artist yay!
@@ninamarie177 jubilee has a happy sound, but the lyrics are mostly still pretty sad and melancholic. I love Paprika as much as you, but you can't ignore the fact that she sings about loneliness and stress that being an artist serves
Omg i love her music!! i had no idea she wrote a book- i’ll definitely have to pick it up now
Hey Jack, I just want to say that I appreciate your honesty in reviews. I feel like a lot of reviewers will hop on the latest trends and only like things that everyone else likes because it will get them the most followers. Your opinion isn't always going to line up with everyone else's, like the classics video you made. But that's okay because it's YOUR opinion. And that's what makes you genuine. Stay genuine Jack!
Don’t be afraid to give a negative opinion. They should not have gotten worked up over that. Subjectivity is the absolute bottom line of reading stories. That’s what makes it special.
couldn't have said that better
Wait what did I miss who’s they
@@ayellowpapercrown6750 the lotr fans that were getting so mad
Exactly. As a huge lotr fan this just annoys me. Just because you love something doesn’t mean everyone else has to love it too.
Yeah a book that I liked was near the bottom but it's not for everyone and I get that.

I've only read 3 books this year: finally out of the reading slump though so I'm gonna try and read as many as possible the rest of the year
don't worry, I'm not faring any better. I read 70 books last year, but have only completed about 10 this year. It's quality over quantity anyway. Hope you have a good reading month :))

Crying in H Mart rings true for a lot of Asian kids. I'm South Asian and similarly my mum has never told me she loves me nor did her mum tell her. But we always showed it to each other through food. If she ever shouted at me, made me cry, or if I was having a bad day in general, she would always cook me my favourite dish. It was our way of connecting and her telling me that she cares deeply for me. My nan passed away earlier this year and cooking her dishes is genuinely the only way I've been able to deal with that grief. My love language is literally acts of service, and this is literally why.
I think one thing Jack missed with Crying in H-Mart is the question of what it means to be a part of a culture. When Zauner's mother dies, she feels like she's lost her connection to being Korean, and it's something, through food, that she tries to claim for herself.
That's something I love about the book so much
Same! It really made me question what identity means to each and every one of us, particularly one’s cultural identity
Yep an easy 5 star read from me 🥰😭
I’m starting this tonight 😌 so excited
Interesting. I didn't love the book mostly because I didn't like the overly flowery language. I think I missed out on the story by being distracted by the language.
this really explains my over attachment to my grandparents since they’re the ones that prompt me to still keep our culture alive… i should read this book 😳
Okay, so, I see a lot of people posting (jokingly) self deprecating comments comparing themselves to Jack when it comes to reading. But please keep in mind that Jack literally *reads for a living* . This is his *job* . Please don't compare yourself to him, or at least not a serious way that'll make you feel bad about yourself! Reading is supposed to be fun and relaxing (in a way... speaking as someone who loves dark and depressive dystopian novels 😂). Do it at your own pace, read what you want, don't compare yourself to others ❤️
It’s not about not reading what I want or comparing myself to others and feeling badly about myself because I don’t read as much as somebody else. It’s really just about having such a massive TBR & so many books that I am dying to read, that even reading 125-150 books a year which is my average, isn’t anywhere close to enough. When my TBR is 1500 books long, even 200 books a year would hardly make a dent. It’s not that we are insecure about our reading when we compare ourselves, it’s just that we want to read more & are jealous of other people that can read faster/have more reading time.
Miekusje...please recommend some.good dark dystopian novels so far reading 1984 andBrave new world...any others you got in mind
@@Jenbebookish YOUR AVERAGE IS WHAT??? caspita! how do you find so much time to read?

Hey Jack, great video! Just wanted to point out that the Caribbean author Leone Ross uses pum-pum which is a real Jamaican/Caribbean word. So not entirely abstract to the theme of the book.
I was just going to comment this. Glad someone else picked up on it!
me being proud of the five books i’ve read🤟 (btw 8 days later it is now six books 😎 i just finished One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston!!!)
no but seriously everyone reads at the own pace and that’s okay!! no need to make yourself feel bad about the amount of books you’re reading, as long as ur reading and enjoying yourself 💌
Totally! Congrats on your reads😁
Exactly! A lot of people seem to skim or rush through books to meet a particular reading goal which is entirely defeating the point. Take your time, absorb what youre reading, and have fun!
this! i’ve literally read one book this year which is not what i would have wanted, but i’m coming out of like a two year long reading slump. learning to read at my own pace is so much more enjoyable than forcing myself to read
Also remember that reading is Jack’s job. The more you read the easier reading gets for your brain (less exhausting, easier to focus, easier to process) and if you were to read like it was your full time job then you would eventually get to the place where you could read 100+ books a year. For the average person, reading is a hobby and something we do because we love stories, it’s not a competition. We are here for a good time.
You should be! Reading is great at any pace
Videos like this just make my day. They give you new books to put on your tbr, new book perspectives. Thanks so much for these!
I've read two books this year: Watership Down and The Lovely Bones. Both of them I'd wanted to read since I was 13, and I was 13 ten years ago. I wish I could read more but it's difficult due to my ADHD. I love watching your channel. You're too funny and your videos are enjoyable to watch, but more importantly your love of literature inspires me to read more. I, the person who has a "books to read" list literally 10 years long, has now read 2 books this year because of you. Thanks!
Proud of you!

Cain’s Jawbone is truly a painful experience. I’ve gotten through 21 pages and every page has at least 4+ literary/historical references that just seem to be fully random. At first I was bought it to solve. Now I just want to finish reading it and finding these references 😭
