In this video, we'll see the Amtrak 40th Anniversary Train being packed up to leave the Strasburg Railroad, then heading eastbound towards Philadelphia.
We'll catch the train along the Road to Paradise, and then at Gap along the "Broad Way". Amtrak sent GP38-2 #523 to Leaman Place Jct. to pick up the Amtrak special, since the #406 has no cab signals. It was a sight to see the GP38-2 in notch 8 roaring by at 60+ MPH!
Visit www.amtrak40th.com to find out of it's coming to your town!
@CSX6000 I am aware. But as this has no baggage compartment, it is not a "cabbage" as it does not serve as a baggage car. The Cascades ones are the same way. By the way, Awesome video! It is nice to see an all phase 3 train again!!
406 is not a baggage car. It is a non powered control unit with a head end power generator for the display cars.
I love this video. I visit this place since I was a kid. Great Video
Amazing Video. .
Nice to see an F40PH that is cosmetically restored, since I don't think she has her EMD 563 anymore
Awesome video!
Because it has no motor. ITs for baggage. Anyway, nice catch. It looks so wierd though watching an Amtrak train ON the strasburg railroad
@CSX6000 Thank you I also went on this train and got stuck in car 10094 cause of the locomotive stand. it was always something i wanted to play with :)
Nice video Adam, As always top notch. Interesting to see a Amtrak rolling down the Strasburgh line.
The F40PH's are the true amtrak trademark and still is my fav locomotive and people used to seeing Amtrak trains running thru the countryside remember these units well. Its good that i still get to see these units running on Metra here in Chicago.
Outstanding video!!!
great catches and video of this special amtrak train leaving this railroad
it's funny seeing such a modern loco in the Amish country side
Soon We will have a 50th anaversery train
Thats great. Amtrak 40th anniversary exhibit train had to leave the Strasburg Railroad for its next stop. However it is seen coming again in 2013.
AMAZING video!
u mean to tell me while i was out working i missed this?...drat!!! i live not to far away either...oh well i catch the train next time..great vid!!
nice video!! I hope I see this one day!
@GenesisSanctuary Thanks! Yes the GP38 was a treat. You don't see Amtrak's out on the main too often.
Very nice work, Adam! Really enjoyed it!
Wicked awesome!!! Great coverage!!!
What day was that again? I probably should have made an effort to see it, because I always wanted to see a Amtrak Geep under the wires, and leading a Cabbage car as an added bonus! Nice!
Amazing! I was unlucky enough to visit Strasburg a few days before this video during the day out with thomas. Got some good shots but the place was a zoo!
I remember waiting this when it first came out 10 years ago
Wow! 406 looks normal, unlike 822. Nice vid
VERY NICE!!!!!
Yeah i know. I think only the Engine is removed and not the motors because the engine possibly moves the wheels.
Pretty neat shots Adam!
@ CSX6000 406 is just an npcu not a cabbage if you see the side it doesn't have a roll up door
I want to drive #406 one day.
Amen!
actually 406 is still part of the 40th anniversary train
why did they need an sd40 to leed te f40 (i know people say it's a cabbage but can't it still run with a p40?)
Wright County Railfan That’s no SD40-2.
It’s GP38H-3
If I had to guess, I think it’s because 523 has/had the proper signaling system and 406 didn’t? I have no idea
nice train!
@boberttrain831 Thanks Bobert!
it has an engine that provides H.E.P head end power witch provides power to the passenger cars rather than the genisis that pulls it
Very nice!
Well, technically, it is - but it doesn't have it's main engine any more. It's used as NPCU or "Non-Powered Control Unit"...
love the intro
So the f40ph has no engine so it is pretty much a dummy engine. Also, is the only reason for the gp38 is so it has marker lights?
sweet horn the the Geep!!!
phase 3 truly is the BEST !
@MrZkr123 Because they can only run from Washington to Boston, and as far west as Harrisburg.
Very nice, is this why they built a siding right through the parking lot?
@CoasterFan2105 Not this particular one, but many others have baggage compartments.
it also provides hep or head end power
High Headlight looks good on the 475
NICE K5 on the GP38! Nice vid, guess this might be one of the only times that a amtrak train heads on that line, looked intresting though. But uh, why did Amtrak send a geep to Leamen place just for the train? Malfunction? Or because it looked good? Cause it did!
Why is the switcher coupling to the amtrak locomotive at 2:31.
Holy smokes! What day did you film this? I ask because I was at Strasburg on June 16. Didn't stay long, but I did see 475 inbound from her last run of the day, the crew prep the LO&S car, and I think I saw them start to prep the Amtrak for departure too.
Nice intro, dude.
@trainz675 You should send that in to Amtrak!
@MoPacBoy Yes. Visit the website!
@Amtrak6901 It has no cab signals.
@theup3985 It is well worth the price of admission (free!!).
@Conrail2576 Thanks!
@nkproad777 The 406 doesn't have cab signals.
@CSX6000 if you read my post correctly, you would see i said for only the NEC so we could have our own heritage unit or two
@CSX6000 Actually it's an NPCU in its original number, that's all.
Will the 40th Anniversary Train ever run on the Strasburg again?
@srr7312 Thank you!
@KyleVideoDesigns Thanks!
@Amtrak6901 No cab signals.
and the gp38 has in cab signaling that neither the p42 nor the f40 have witch is required on that line
@Mybuddhakitty So they can put it on to the anniversery train.
@joneau261 Thanks!
@jediraptor07 This was taken on June 26th.
@1998ChevroletS10 read the description the guy took the time to write......
Is this traveling the country?
I am very dissapointed that none of the AEM-7's were heritage units for the NEC
American Nathan K5la Super Air horns on P40DC and GP-38
Phase 3`s are fantastic.
@o00o00ozy It was Jiune 26th, 2011.
how was it?
@Amtrak6901 good point
You can't drive it. It doesn't move the engine and moters were removed.
@trainboy437 Basically.
That is a GP38-3.
Penn Rail Videos thats actually a gp38h-3
@MrZkr123 Well then you need to write an angry letter to Amtrak right away! Because people will come out in DROVES to see a TOASTER!
Does thar F40 have a prime mover?
No
@ohiosouthern It's just Strasburg. They don't have a useless H at the end of their name like Pittsburgh does.
@mark10788 Good luck.
@modeltrainman12345 No, that's probably for more of the trans-loading business.
@CSX6000 Oh ok thanks!
No way that GE40 that GE P42DC lol
AkimbosliceNV it is called an F40PH dumbass, and the locomotive turned on in the first part was a GE 70 ton Switcher, or a genset.
Anyone know the name of the train that appears at 00:07 ?
Why can't that F40PH move itself?
also if 406 were a cabbage it would be numbered 90406
@Barricade360 No.
Penn Rail Videos could've just a AEM7 instead of GP38H-3
@CSX6000 i wish amtrak is where i am
@nyc3001 That's all GE's are.
@Chito3509 Reading FP7s.
The engine has no traction motors.
I think they should have taken one of their 8 F40PH's, (that still Run) and used that one, not this old F40 that dont work.
@NSLocomotiveFan As sugar! HA!
Why's that?
@trainz675 Why do you want a Powered F40? Why leave out 406? What!? will the world end if 406 leads? No! its almost like the other F40's except it has no engine.
Okay
00:07
@mark10788 take a chill pill.
