    One thing that has been a challenge in sim is using tools like pacx or gsx and calculating takeoff Time because we don't necessarily know how long it takes to load a given number of passengers

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  Рік тому +1

      That's much more of a problem using flight sim addons then it is in real life. In real life you have a set amount of time and within that time all passengers must be on board. Ground and Cabin Crew will usually facilitate that.

    25 minute turn around is insane especially if there’s over 100 bags to off load and load on top of that cleaning the aircraft.

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  Рік тому

      It's what we do every day. Cleaning is done by the cabin crew, saves time.
      Loading and unloading of bags takes a good part of the turnaround but is manageable.

    Hallo, thank you very much for your tutorials, I've learned so much from your videos :)
    A little hint for the virtual porformance tool, which I also use. Under the WGT & balance tab, where 738W-real is shown, you can select there the 738W-PMDG plane. This will set the weights and the balance to all values the pmdg is programmed at, which are higher than on the 738W-real Profile. Than you won't have the problem of being too heavy for deoarture or landing :)

    I wanted to briefly mention something that might be important for PMDG or the MSFS. I don't know if many have this problem: Well I have the X52 HOTAS from Logitech which I am very satisfied with and has always worked. The one with the trim button (the problem I had maybe you remember last comment of last Video) suddenly disappeared after your help I think.
    But somehow I have a strange problem since the latest PMDG update 3.0.62 my joystick i.e. the Y axis doesn't always react, sometimes it sometimes doesn't work at all. I really only have that with the 737-700 at the PMDG with no other aircraft. I know the simulator is very complex and sometimes difficult to understand why and where the problems are.
    Maybe more people will come up with this problem in the future or not who knows. I wanted to mention it for PMDG.
    The weird thing is, after I went into the menu, it still hangs on other planes too, until I unplug the usb and plug it back in, then it works again. But always only when I fly the pmdg! Without pmdg I have no problem.
    It might a problem of the new (working title update last weeks or maybe the last PMDG update) I dont know.
    I will continue to investigate the problem.
    Also wanted to mention that your videos are very good keep it up! 😄
    PS: I found in steam community something about (in German) its from 7 January before the updates, maybe its a problem of MSFS/Asobo long time ago. Here is the Link: steamcommunity.com/app/1250410/discussions/12/3764479392873754800/

    One thing that I've noticed about this airline is just how long their checklists are, and the funniest thing is the fact that "Passengers - Seated" is in the Before Start Checklist. Do you have an idea of why the checklists are so long with many items that seem unnecessary, but might be necessary?

    Excellent video. Is it standard procedure to start the APU after landing if you know you are going to connect to ground power anyway? Or would you just have the ground power connected after the chocks are in and then stop the engines after that?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  Рік тому +8

      Depends a lot on the place where you're flying. In Spain for example they won't connect the GPU until your beacon is off. Which requires the engines to be shut down first.
      In the UK they're very good at connecting the GPU quickly and thus you typically wouldn't start the APU. But of course it's airport dependant once again. London is very good, Manchester.... well, I'm happy if I have ground crew at all in Manchester.

      sim limitations due to the space available. The 600's got the same issue. In the 800/900 there's more space, thus it could be done.

    How much pressure does the company put on the pilots to make the desired turnaround time? Do pilots feel the pressure of committing to land vs going around?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  Рік тому

      In my airline there is zero pressure NOT to go around. There's even a memo of the board of directors outlining a clear no blame policy for go arounds.
      The turnaround process starts when the plane is on block and the engines shut down. That's where the timer starts, anything prior to that will simply be noted down as delaycode 93 - late inbound.

  • @30DegreesBank
    @30DegreesBank Рік тому

    Wow, great topic and briliantly exaplained in the video! I always thought that low-cost airlines use outside stands because it is cheaper for the airline than booking a terminal and airbridge? Also, I have a IRL question to help me better with fuel planning on short distance Turnarounds. For example Easyjet have several flights a day between Nice Cote d'Azur and Geneve, same plane goes back and fourth. Will they fill up the tanks for the whole day(meaning that they would have to land pretty heavy at first), or refuel with the needed QTY for each flight and keep the plane lightweight, but bother refueling each time at one of the two airports? How does real life airlines do this?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  Рік тому +3

      At many airports pricing doens't event vary between terminal and outside positions. At others, while you might save the money for the jetways you'll pay for busses. And for the terminal you pay anyway, regardless how passengers are brought there.
      I would expect Easyjet to refuel between the flights, the turnaround is long enough and otherwise you'd just waste money by carrying excess weight.
      Tankering fuel is usually done when fuel prices at one place are particularly expensive or if there's just no fuel available at a place at all which happens surprisingly often.

    4:50 KLM Cityhopper als wants to turnaround quickly. 90% of the times at EHAM they also use an outside gate. I had no idea that this sped up the proces. Nice detail in your video! I like to keep the MSFS logbook accurate. However, if you shut down with the PMDG or Fenix A320, the logbook will not be filled. EG if you fly Dusseldorf - Alicante Alicante - Dusseldorf it states Dusseldorf - Dusseldorf. Is there a work arround, so MSFS notes both legs seperate?

I noticed you never connected ground air conditioning and turned the APU off - while not as important in the sim, was that just something you forgot, assuming that ground personnel would've hooked it up? Should the plane always be connected to a source of air conditioning whether through a ground source or the APU, or is there any length of time on the ground where not having air conditioning is OK?

    My airline has standard 35 minute turnaround but we’re also following the unloading of the rear first and loading of the front first due to teetering risks should we be restricted to front only offloading of pax.

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  Рік тому

      Interesting thinking about the offloading of pax here. We just make sure there's people distributing around the cabin equally when boarding with a jetway and make sure some people wait at the front of the cabin during disembarking to keep the weight even.

    I don't really understand the beginning, why don't use auto break 2 and have no cooling time?

    • @the-aviator
      @the-aviator Рік тому +1

      The runway length of 03L at Gran Canaria is about 3100 metres, so if he would have used auto brakes 2, the aircraft would come to a stop with less than 400 metres remaining which is very risky (because of the high landing weight, the aircraft has more momentum). You can see in the takeoff calculator in the video as well, the aircraft will take more than 2700 metres to stop. By using auto brakes 3, the aircraft has a better stopping distance.

    • @hades_monsta
      @hades_monsta Рік тому
