- In this video I replace the motor and water release valve on a Hoover carpet scrubber. Enjoy.
Here's a close up shot of taking the wheels off.
• How to take wheels off...
Benjamin took apart the "same" model but it has slightly different parts, so the wheels are attached differently. Check out his video here:
• Hoover Powerdash Pet W...
with all carpet cleaners I think people should pay attention not to JOLT them....Example... you're moving along doing the cleaning... the dirty water tank is like 60% full...you turn the machine really fast and water might get sucked into the motor before the float has a chance to stop it...I try to be really careful to not making any sudden quick movements when using them..
Very good point.
I love Hoover Power Pet. 5 years of excellent service.
Thanks for your help. I was able to fix my Hoover carpet cleaner. Great video.
Awesome! Great job I'm going working on mine and see if I can fixed. I've been watching videos but this is better explained!😊
Thanks. Hope it works.
thanks... have a VAX machine which happens to be identical except the outside covers shapes.... same grind noise just now... sounds like my water pump a while back so defo a collapsed shaft ball bearing.... imma try to replace that as i did on the water pump... but thanks for confirming my initial diagnosis... motor shit it :-D
Hey man - I have one too and just disassembled and there's rust in the motor. is there a design flaw on these machines that lets water into the motor?
@@mattmbenson yeah… i flooded the bathroom so i let the machine sit in like half inch of water to hoover it up… turns out that was enough for the motor to get dipped … how stupid… i also have a dishwasher that rusted to shreds due to water ?????… machines purposely made to work with water, getting killed by water… 21st century progress
Mine is now doing this super loud grinding sound. First was smoke smell.
Mine smells of smoke ... an electrical smoke smell. I can easily take the unit apart and check out the guts, but man, I have SO many fixit projects lying around on top of all the other to-dos and responsibilities and now my own body needs troubleshooting (MRI lined up) that I'm asking myself is it really something I want to do. Answer: Yes, I WANT to do it. Should I? ummmm ... ugh ... to many bloody things on my list. 🥸
This just happened to me and I turned it off instantly. It still smelled like burnt rubber.
The one I have is twice the size with 2 tanks. I can already to tell I can’t fix this shit.
"Why do I have a an extra screw?" relatable
🤪😂😂😂
It was from the valve that was already included in the replacement pump configuration.
Never thought of that 🤔
Good video 🙏
I have gone through 2 in one year with exact problem. Rated by far the best For 100 is it even worth replacing motor ??
It depends on if you enjoy fixing things 😉. Otherwise no. But you can save about $50 doing so.
Link to the replacemt parts you ordered please?
I ordered used parts on ebay so the listing are not active. Here is a link for an active listing: www.ebay.com/itm/255541986398?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=dQahslWcSc2&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=KmtOIpriQoi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
@@TheRandomVidsChannel I didn't think you'd respond so quickly, thank you so much!!
Sure thing.
@@TheRandomVidsChannelp lol
Thank you teacher.
Hi not sure if you can help me but i just tried to wash my carpert and it sounded different then usually and rhe it smelled like smoke and it turned off and ir wont turn on again any ideas????
It sounds like the motor should be replaced.
Ugh I had a feeling out of nowhere 😕 trying to take it apart 😭 warranty is over but saw that is twenty bucks on Amazon
Only used mine 3 or 4 times and now its smoking and making grinding sound. Really disapointed. Waste of money..
Can you show us how you took the wheels out
I made this UA-cam short to show it.
m.ua-cam.com/users/shortsyBawv7FbVTU
There's a different wheel style you may have that uses E-pins instead: ua-cam.com/video/VFfciIeI0sQ/v-deo.html
WHY? YES, APPLIED ALL THE HOT HEAT NEEDED.
The wheels on mine are a different design than the one in this video, it has a little metal lock ring I was able to push out with a flathead screwdriver, but it wasn't easy.
I wondered about that, because a number of people seemed to have trouble with the wheels. At least you got them off.
@@TheRandomVidsChannel I also noticed that all the screws on mine were Philips while others have Torx heads. My unit is from late 2020.
My issue turned out to be the motor fuse. I'm on my way to the store to see if I can find one locally, though I may end up buying it online.
Nice.👌
I made a video showing how mine works in case it helps others: ua-cam.com/video/VFfciIeI0sQ/v-deo.html
Very cool, I'll link it in the description.
THANKS!
How you supposed to take off the wheels? it doesn't show that part.
I have a link in the description that shows it better. Also some of them have slightly different wheel attachments.
@@TheRandomVidsChannel turns out mine seems to screw on instead of snap on.
Great video. Where did you buy the replacement motor?
Ebay
9:50am how are you getting the wheels off?
There were squeeze tabs on the model I fixed. But some have different attachment styles.
I Have this same one. Could you please link the parts that you purchased?
I bought the parts used on ebay so the links wouldn't be active anymore.
Some parts have a model number on them, so you could try looking for one. Or try searching Google by describing what you think the part is, and then when you know what it's called you can go to ebay. Hope you find this useful.
Also make sure to include the vacuum model in your search.
For example: hoover powerdash pet motor
@@TheRandomVidsChannel cool I found a motor on Ebay. Thanks!
3:49 ok so im at the white part of the face and i cant take it off any tips??? Thank you mama trying over here
There's probably something other than plastic clips holding it together, like screws. For me it was the wheels. I made a small video on the wheels.
@@TheRandomVidsChannel got it thank you a hidden stubborn screw, how did you remove the motor??? I'm leaving that for hubby but just so I can share with him please and thank you for your videos
Once the drive belt is taken off, the motor should pop right out. And the electrical connections can be cut(close to the motor). Then the connections need to be stripped and the new motor wired in using either inline connectors or wire nuts.
@@TheRandomVidsChannel My favorite connectors are Wago lever nuts. Or I have a container of various diameter adhesive lined heat-shrink tubing. LOVE these for LOTS of fixes, including holes/slits in straws that are specific to drink containers. And this: I have a semi-permanent source of dishwashing soap dispensable at the sink by running clear tubing from a LARGE bottle of dishwashing soap under the sink to the dispenser tube that's usually/can be installed into the sink. I only have to change out about once a year, so it beats refilling the small pump dispenser every month or two. If I'm lucky, the manufacturer doesn't change the design of the bottle and I simply unscrew the cap (which I have modified to accept one end of the hose; I used plumber's putty to make it airtight) from the empty bottle and insert into the new bottle without detaching from the pump dispenser tube to which I've attached the adhesive lined heat-shrink tubing. I've tucked the original empty soap dispenser bottle way in the corner under the sink so anyone coming behind me who isn't so handy can simply screw it back onto the neck under the counter.
I have hardly used my Hoover and I have the same grinding sound. I figured it would cost more to fix it than what I paid for it so I bought a Bissell Revolution 2.. Very happy with it. Someday I may tear it down and see about fixing it. PS You went too fast and either your head or your hand was blocking the view.
Thanks for the feedback. Try playing it at half speed.🤔
@@TheRandomVidsChannel or double speed to get to the point. Then 1/2 speed. 🤪😂
What if the wheel doesn’t turn could
There's probably hair wrapped around the wheel where it's connected to the vacuum.
how much is the motor? is it cheaper just to get another new machine??
It should be somewhere between $30 and $50, whereas a new machine would cost around $100.
These Hoover's if I'm not mistaken it's got at least a two-year warranty the issue with the water sucking up in the motor and corroding the motor is seems to be an issue or so people don't keep the receipt because they assume it's going to work but Hoover should be responsible if their products is not lasting if you don't have a receipt and of course most people throw the Box away and they don't really keep up with a receipt if it does not last within 2 years Consumer Affairs or the Attorney General's office should make sure that these products are standing up to their warranty mine is doing the same thing I'm going to call Hoover tomorrow they're getting by with making products that's not lasting which is a rip-off to Consumers if we sit back and not say nothing and go out and buy another one that's exactly what they would want us to do keep spending money on their products as I read it is not my problem to fix it is the manufacturer's problem to fix this issue return my money even though I don't have a receipt they should still return my money for a faulty product that did not does not help hold up to the guidelines I've not had mine a whole year people need to start making these companies stand behind their products you pay almost $200 for a product with a 2-year warranty you and expect it to at least work a year if not longer I didn't know they tore up so easy I have read all kinds of stuff about them stopping up there not picking up not spraying and everything else with that now the motors messed up my gosh did they make them to do anything for $150 or more from what I see this is a story product does anybody know if they make any shampooers any better than this does anybody have any input on a better shampooer that holds up and you get what you pay for because I will not repurchase another one of these I need a shampooer but I want something that is not going to fall apart as soon as you buy it and have multiple issues as all I've read on Google everybody has had multiple problems and nothing but issues not spraying stopping up they won't pick up they won't spray it's everything Google is full of all the problems obvious Hoover pet - shampooer they used to make things to last now they won't even last half of the warranty and people I guess are not educated enough to know that these manufacturers are supposed to back their products and if they don't you can go to Consumer Affairs and people are being made less aware you need to educate yourself on making these manufacturers stand behind their products they shouldn't make junk and sell them for that kind of money they know that water is going to get sucked up into that motor as he said that somebody had put two Motors in there if they know that they could have prevented it or what had you and they put a two year warranty on it mine is not even lasted a year my motor was locking up and I could smell something leaving black streaks on my carpet and it just shut off and will not start the shame these products they make today are worthless nobody should have to work on their products after they bomb and they shouldn't have to buy a motor either and repair it yourself no absolutely not
I think people paying a hundred bucks for a shampooer are just getting the cheapest option. Kind of like the people who buy the $20 knockoff of a $100 product. There's a reason you save money when you purchase the product, because it's cheaply made. But, because it's cheaply made, it doesn't last. So, in the end you either buy a $20 product periodically, or you decide to get a better product.
My dad used to be the cheap product kinda guy, so I got pretty good at fixing stuff.
I have great service with mine, over 5 years with an 16 year old cat who poops all over the place.
Do you have a part number for the motor?
There should be a part number on the old motor. If there isn't any, than you can just look up the machine model followed by "motor".
Any ideas on how to prevent the new motor from encountering similar corrosion? Seems inefficient to replace the motor without resolving the underlying issue.
If I manually cover those openings on the underside, what’s the trade off? I’d guess it’s probably not designed as ventilation, considering it’s on the underside of the machine. So… Is that supposed to be what they advertise as HeatForce? Just residual heat from the motor spinning? Cuz personally, I’ll take not having to replace the motor over what little “HeatForce” I get off the motor.
Any thoughts? Just tryin to pick your brain. Mine is easily confused.
I think if you covered the holes, then the motor would overheat. I hear what you're saying tho. It's just a poor design.
I thought mine was defective that there was water down there! Good to know it isn't just me.
LOL!! 😂😂😂You're a good man Charlie Brown, I mean, Kevin. Mine too!! Why? I'm thinking it's because our minds have the capacity to consider many/all of the options. It's no wonder they get confused-there is SO much information available at our fingertips. And instantaneously! If we didn't have the capacity, we wouldn't get confused. Life would be simple and easy. The curse of a sharp mind!
Can you give me the part numbers for both please?
It may very depending on what model you have. But it should be printed on the part you're trying to replace.
if I catch it right away can I dry the motor off before it gets a chance to rust
It corrodes inside the motor as well as outside, so it would be very difficult to clean. The only thing I can think of is putting some sort of lubricant on it, like silicone grease or something to protect the bare metal. Even though grease would be difficult to apply and a thinner lubricant would probably run off.🤷♂️
Mine is making a really loud noise took it apart and cleaned it it's still really loud was working perfectly fine yesterday any ideas of what could be going on?
So you cleaned the motor?
The motor was perfectly dry just bought it last month only used it four times no rust
It could be a problem with the drive belt, or an obstruction in the brushroll. I don't know, just some possible causes.
Btw, if you get the motor out and you can spin the fan than it should be fine.
And how much is your motor
I think around 30 bucks, but now it's probably more.
Can't get past the wheels. You just said you were taking them off and the instructions on how to do that were "take them off"
Edit:ok my wheels are a different design that I see from the comments some people have. Pain in the ass. Somebody made a video entitled "powerdash pet wheel removal" in which they show how to take these wheels off. They made a tool with a paperclip which works much better than a screwdriver.
Where did you find the motor and how much did it cost?
On ebay. The one I got was cheaper but now they're going for $40.
What’s the name of the motor
Most motors have a sticker or stamp with their part number as well as other specs. Or you can just lookup whatever model vacuum you have followed by "motor".
But how does it get corroded is it a way to avoid this from happening
It gets corroded by the water it uses to clean the carpet. There are ventilation holes in the bottom, so I would guess that is where the moisture comes from. I can't think of anything that would prevent it tho.
@@TheRandomVidsChannel thanx for the reply I just bought a new one I think cleaning it right away and laying it down to air out after use may help I usually do that but I didn’t this time so it stopped working
How much was the motor
I think I got mine for 30 bucks but prices fluctuate.
Yeah ill just buy a new one 😂
Where is the fuse
I don't believe there was a fuse in the model that I fixed.
How did you take out the wheels?
There are two little tabs on them. When you press them together you can pull the wheel right out.
I used needle nose pliers.
Can you make or explain where they are, how to get the tap rotate or something because not working for me
So, there are two small tabs on the wheel with a ridge on them. When you squeeze them together and pull the wheel at the same time, it should come off. You may need to rotate the wheel to position the tabs correctly.
This UA-cam short shows it better.

Thanks but this is BS 💩after a year of having this crap. Don’t make things well anymore pisses Me off
Heard, tho it is low priced for a reason
Bought one of these fine products. Motor burned up in less than 3 months. Company wants the receipt and send it to them for repairs. A wonderful 3 month warranty. I will fix it myself and never buy another hoover brand anything.
