Are Some Birds Just UNTRAINABLE? | Cheyenne the Snake Discovery Macaw
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- In today's video we are working with @SnakeDiscovery's Emily and Ed and their 20+ year old blue and gold macaw, Cheyenne. Emily has had Cheyenne since she was 16 years old and she was a rescue then and ex-breeder bird who came to her already plucking. We are working hard to change Emily's mind about Cheyenne being trainable!

I won't ever get tired of seeing experts exchanging knowledge to better the lives of animals.
They’re just weird bird ppl
Absolutely!
Her reaction to Emily saying, "we've done target training with an alligator" was priceless!
As soon as she said, “We’ve clicker trained a snake”, I knew they were going to succeed. ❤️
I know they either clicker or use a whistle for crocks, gators, and other critters. 💕
😂😂😂
The unknown variable here was Cheyenne. Emily trained an African Gray to ride a skateboard and dunk a mini basketball when she was a teen.
Check out Lori Torrini here on UA-cam if you want to see some awesome snake training!
@@goldengirl54 a lot of people also target train lizards with a big red or blue ball on a stick
I believe all the birds no matter how old they are are trainable.. just need time, patient and proper training.. Cheyenne is amazing..
Some things sure, but there will always things you can’t convince an animal to do, even with all the treats and scritches in the world.
The collab of my dreams! I don't know if either of you have done things together before, but I would love to see more from you both together!
Everyone’s so excited to share and actively listen-wholesome! Cheyenne’s a rockstar.
When I first saw Emily I thought she looks familiar, I have seen her channel before. Really hope they stick to the new diet change, it will be so much better for Cheyenne, and the reward will be a much more alert Birdie for training and overall happiness, and definitely better skin and feathers. Great job as always Jamie and Dave, Thanks for taking us along.
I'm loving the Cheyenne "series". Are you planning to make a video on the blue headed pionus in one of the masterclasses from that weekend?
Yes!
This reminds me a bit of my early training with my green cheek. He was 7 years old and had always been clipped but not severely. He could fly pretty good but didn't really want to. I felt so proud when I started getting longer and longer flights. He's a pro now and will come to me from 2 rooms away.
❤ both Chanel’s you and #SnakeDiscovery work tirelessly to improve the lives of animals. It has been amazing to watch Cheyenne become motivated to learn the clicker and tap the stick as well as flying to Emily.
the idea of a parrot in a sweater is adorable!
It’s because she plucks out her own feathers but the pattern of the sweater looks like an interesting natural color variation.
Oh, what a funny coincidence, I just came across Snake Discovery's channel yesterday through someone else's channel, and now here they are on yours haha!
Aw, and awesome to see Cheyenne working for that reward and starting to get the hang of targetting!
Something crazy is when I had my old youtube acc I watched every video of yours and was not scared of snakes I just respected their space because I didn't know enough anyway I was watching your video and saw Cheyenne on Snake Discovery's channel, and watched it and long story short I LOVE reptiles and been studying them for almost 7 years now because of an accidental click on a special blue and gold macaw. Now I need a bird refresher I broke when you guys lost Rocko and haven't watched since so I have a lot to catch up on.
Not just one but 2 collaboration with snake discovery! You spoil us!
Our cockatoo is terrified of reptiles. Even seeing them on tv. This macaw, she's beautiful! Another great video.
My favorite part is near the end where Capri creeps into frame -- she is Entertainment!
My two favorite channels!!
I love that Ed got in at the end!
It took a little coaxing lol ;)
Jamie looking lovely in this video today!
I loved the last footage of Ed target training Cheyenne on the stand in their office, that's so awesome and precious! 😍
They were struggling so much before feels like you changed their life completely! 👏
I’m so happy to see two of my favourite channels doing a collaboration!
Honestly that last but really kind of seemed like she was more engaged. She seems to like learning but is a bit nervous at the newness of it after being so laong (not just in their care of course) just being a perch potato. Excited to follow her progress on their page. You teo are an awesome team
I watched the Snake Discovery video, so I got some spoilers but this was still entertaining. Thanks for posting
i love this clients enthusiasm and openness
The last clip was so great! I first started watching snake discovery around the same time a started to watch y'all, so it is so great to see y'all together and see the amazing progress Cheyenne has made!
I just love Cheyenne so much! (Ed and Em too!)
I love both your channel and snake discovery! Snakes are my personal first love, but I love learning about birds too.
So cool! Yay, Cheyenne!
Honestly this video launched my love for Snake Discovery and I cannot thank you enough!
That was delightful! Good girl Cheyenne!
Omggggggg Bird Tricks x Snake Discovery? So excited.
I love it. Two of my fave collaborators together ❤️ I would of had a huge fan girl moment if in the same room. Cheyenne would have to revive me.
I totally get what others have said about sharing information. I love, love, love talking about my work in the veterinary profession with others in it and around it so that I can learn and improve.
So generous, Jamie ❤️❤️❤️.
So thankful you did this. I saw there feeding her and I wrote that they should contact you.
I wish you can train all the parrots i UA-cam ! Getting Cheyenne to target train is entertaining maybe they can do the spinning trick in the future every thing is possible with birdtricks 🙌👏💪
Cheyenne is SO beautiful! What a lovely face! And her blue feathers are stunning! Thank you BirdTricks for working with her (& Momma). I have a feeling she is poised to be your star student! 👍💫🥰💋💕🦜
"We've clicker trained a snake"
and what are birds but just modern dinosaurs. And if they are dinosaurs, they are reptiles. :P lol
Clint's Reptiles actually has a video explaining how birds are reptiles!
I love this video since it is snake discovery, so I love it I am even ascribed to snake discovery
omg the knitted jumper 🥰 lovley maccaw
Coming from snake discovery, I absolutely loved seeing both sides of the training with cheyenne! I do ABA therapy with children with ASD and seeing some of the same training to go into training Cheyenne is very fascinating! 💙💛💙💛
Hopefully it isn't the blatant abuse kind, like leaving a child in a room alone with loud noises, forcing them to wear shirt tags if it makes them uncomfortable to the point of a melt/shutdown.
Us autistic people are not puzzles to fix like the hate group Autism Speaks thinks. We are humans with different needs than others.
The world needs to be more willing to accept safe coping behaviors like stimming instead of seeing it as monstrous. And if people don't feel comfortable with eye contact, they should have to do it. They can let the other person know in the conversation and just have their body face towards them. Masking is a toxic behavior for most of us.
ABA therapy is training autistic children to be easier for neurotypicals to manage , not actually to help them. There's a reason most autistic adults don't support ABA.
I love how Ed is just "Man" according to the captions
inspired by target training, I started it to have more play time with my Meyers. She took to it. Thanks. A funny side-- I used a chop stick for target training. I live in the SF bay area, so I eat asian food with chops sticks. When I set them on the side of the bowl the Meyers comes over and taps the end. And then of course, she gets a click and a treat. She likes the treats; she seems to consider the click an annoyance to tolerate
I just watch this movie discovery video and I am really impressed how you change it is very interesting to know how you train birds this is my first time watching your channel
You guys are so amazing
One of my favorite videos from y’all recently. The content has been so entertaining to watch lately & is ALWAYS educational. Keep up the great work Jamie-Leigh & Dave! Also.. I NEED NEED NEED your tank top Jamie-Leigh. Tell me where to get one! Xoxo 💋

I was waiting for this collab!
This is basically how I train my dogs.
Yeah, Rex is very food motivated, lol
I don’t know if this question was ever asked before, but how do you train two birds (budgies) in pairs. Our first is our tough untrainable street bird that will fly to you only if millet is seen. Our second bird (born finger trained) is hesitant to do it without the first one bullying him. We’ve tried locking them individually but they cry for each other. We are stuck.
Awesome video! I love the outro music!
have been wating for this video :D
“We’ve clicker trained a snake.”
Lori Torrini here on UA-cam is an awesome trainer who primarily works with snakes but also horses and dogs.
What would be the reason he plucks himself?
Could it be the stress from not being pet constantly when she is away? He really clings to her.
There bond is amazing, he really loves her imo.
Wow you can clicker train a snake that’s impressive 😱
Check out Lori Torrini here on UA-cam, she is an exceptional snake and horse trainer!
Ok
As I knitter who doesn’t own animal animals, I came for the sweaters on Cheyenne
Great video, thanks 👍
bird tricks and snake discovery in one video? am I in heaven?
Great! Wonder what would happen if you had the owner leave the room before you got her out again for a training session?
i have a green checked conyor (i dont know how to spell it) hes 1 yrs old and hes the best =)
Super cool.
I saw this on snake Discovery
Same
after 22 years my cockatoo isn't untrainable..he
just won't do new things.
Like my husband?
WOah third comment! first time ive watched you videos so close to when they came out.
When the human says the bird is untrainable, they are not realizing it's always the human who must be trained first.
Hi, I just got three parakeets and I was wondering how I can get the birds to come to me. Every time I open the cage and barely put my hand in the birds move away from me
Watch the birdtricks videos on that topic.
Are there any reputable bird stores OR breeders NOT in California that you would recommend safe to buy from that ship to California? Or even IN Northern CA that ship to Los Angeles.?
I'm curious if there are any more mass produced pellets that are more available for those of us that can't afford shipping costs that you would recommend to suppliment chop? So far I've been using Zupreem or Rowdybush because it is available near me (Harrison's when I can afford shipping, but it's usually more expensive to ship than the pellets themselves cost, I've also tried Tops but it is just as hard to get and my budgie had zero interest, even when powdering it and mixing it with stuff he likes 😅). My budgie loves chop but I can't seem to get him interested in pellets at all.
For context, I wanted to try your birdie bread and pellets, but it was more expensive to ship than the product cost by itself, and I just can't afford most of your stuff, let alone at twice the listed price
Hello please I would like someone to help me
What can you feed budgies if your country does not sell/import pellets? I know that an all seed diet is bad for them (even with veggies because they eat seeds the most)
Any advice? Is there a substitute for pellets ? I need help, please...
Her sweater lol
Alright, I'm sorry to ask, but my uncle has a macaw that intentionally makes really really loud calls continuously. I'm sure diet has something to do with it, but it could be more than that and he's rather desperate. Do you have any videos of working with any birds with similar problems? For the record I have tried looking for myself through your videos, but I must have missed it. 😥
So I am no expert, but my understanding from Jamie is that the higher sugar quantity in the commonly available bird seeds can lead to hyper behaviour in parrots. I could not double check, but I think they talk about it in this video ua-cam.com/video/voNMetNh6BE/v-deo.html . Also, lack of enrichment, attention and changes in hormone might be the causes of it too. And if that's the case, clicker training is a great way to start addressing most of those problems in addition to a healthy diet.
@@MrEfaithm thanks so much! I'll look into all of that! I had a feeling diet probably had something to do with it. And thanks for finding the link! Very kind of you
Does he get attention for screaming? Even someone yelling back, "shut up!" The bird may consider getting wanted attention. Giving attention and/or treats for non-screaming voculatizons while also ignoring screaming can make a big difference over time.
@@sylphsarigo1996 yes unfortunately. The local parrot shop told them to spray her with a water bottle.... Which she just thinks is bath time. Lol but! I found Jamie and Dave's course to stop screaming and sent it their way! Hopefully they take it and learn how to handle the screaming in a more productive way. Lol
They have a Screaming course available on their website if you're interested
ive been trainign my bird for more than 4 years and it still didnt get tamed and then it died
Who here watched snake discovery’s video first and suddenly found this (raise your hand)🖐🏻
Why does Cheyenne wear a sweater?
She has no feathers
Cheyenne is a funny girl.
I just watch the snake discovery video an
Who came from Snake Discovery?
👇
The crossover I've been waiting for! 🤍🦜
Same 🦜&🐍
there's an untrainable bird just some are more difficult than others I'm in the process of taming a 4-year-old tiel
Why does Birdie have a sweater?
Cheyenne is a rescue who pulls her feathers, so under the jumper she's completely bald
Yes indeed
I bought a clicker and I really thought it would work well 🤦♀️ our dog is HORRIBLY SCARED of the noise.
this is actually something that was touched on in another video by Jamie and Dave, but something to try is keeping the clicker in your pocket and clicking it inside the pocket. It muffles the noise a bit while still having a clear marker. This worked with a friend of mine's bird who was terrified of the clicker noise. Hope it helps!! 🥰
@@tangothebubbypuppychicken526 thanks! Will definitely be trying that🙂
There are lots of alternatives. You can click a pen or the lid off a bottle of Snapple. Or even just make a noise with your mouth.
Good luck! ♡

Y does she wear a sweater
Hey y does she wear a sweater
Stop "owning" them. You can never do right by them. Ever.
Cheyenne is a rescue. Where is she supposed to go?
Yeah like my parakeets were born in captivity DIFFRENT but it’s not like people didn’t care and just yoinked them out of the wild
Go Cheyenne!!
Lookiing forward to seeng more of wat you guys do !
She's absolutely gorgeous! 😍 If you don't mind me asking, is there a name for the clicker? Bird clicker? 😅 I'v seen how useful they are for you & I'm going to get one to help with training aswell 💜🦜
It's just a clicker. Same kind is used for dogs. Good luck with your goals!
It's known as a training clicker, since you can use it on any animal really.
@@BirdTricks Thank you very much for letting me know! I'm definitely getting one to help with my parrots training! 😊 I love your channel btw! Your an absolute wealth of knowledge & thanks for taking the time to impart some of your wisdom 🙂💜🦜
@@TroyMcMahon89 I’ve learned from these videos that the clickers can be too loud for some birds so they use a retractable pen instead.
