Adobe Fresco Worth It? - A Digital Artist Opinion (vs Procreate)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 січ 2020
- I've been using Procreate professionally and I'm really open about how much I love the app. But out of curiosity, I decided to try Adobe Fresco to test it for myself. In this video I'm giving my opinion on why I believe it's no match to Procreate (for now).
In this mini Adobe Fresco vs Procreate review, I share my thoughts as a procreate user and professional illustrator. I did it as balanced as possible because Fresco has really interesting features, some of them really good. I will for sure keep an eye on every update they release, and I will keep on trying because the product seems that has so much potential and a great team working behind it.

I am a big fan of Adobe in general, but if someone doesn't need all the other applications, Procreate is a great option.
Absolutely :)
This is what I was so afraid of when using procreate too, photoshop and illustrator has made me cry a few times but procreate gave me hope as an illustrator that I can be a digital artist and I can use multimedium.
I might give fresco a go later when they’ve pushed it a bit further.
Totally :) but I’m going to give it a try now after the updates and maybe do a follow up video :) it has a lot of potencial 😊 and I love the brushes
Cry baby
Hi everyone, this is my honest first impression of Adobe Fresco. It's just my opinion, I wanted to present things I liked and disliked. But I would love to hear your experience :)
I actually find Fresco much easier software than Procreate. I love the brushes, the fact it’s so intuitive and not very complicated yet integrates so perfectly with the desktop apps. I pay for Adobe CC subscription as it is a must for my professional work so Fresco is included in my yearly price ❤️
Hi Anya thank you so much! I was really impressed with the brushes, the feel amazing. I’m planning to try it again after all the updates, mostly now that Adobe is giving a few free months :) thanks again for watching and the comment 👍🏼
Anya Kuvarzina Fresco’s brush engine lags a LOT.
I'm trying to move totally away from Adobe. I now use procreate and Affinity Designer for vector work.
Sadly I still have the Photoshop subscription as I'm finding that hard to leave behind, but I dislike the whole monthly payment nonsense. It's a ripoff.
Totally understand! I’m with Procreate from the beginning is easy to stay with it and hard to change, also I heard so many things about Affinity Designer, I need to try it out .. thanks for sharing 🌿
Asia Orlando I love your channel, and I’ve switched to the light background as you suggested, and I find my eyes don’t get so tired, so thank you for that tip. Could I ask one question ... what Bardot Brush pack was the colour-lifter brush in? It looks like a cool brush.
Thank you so much :) I’m glad it helped! The color lifter it’s included in the wash and dry watercolor toolkit:)
Asia Orlando thank you so much. Been trying to find but I must have kept missing it. You’re so kind.
Nicely done explainer. Now two years have passed. I’d love your new assessment.
Hi guys! I did a follow up video on Adobe Fresco ua-cam.com/video/x6_4sVp93qo/v-deo.html focusing on what has changed
It’s a brand new program. There are definitely some improvements needed, but I’ve decided it’s worth getting used to. The live brushes and vector brushes are too amazing to pass up, in my opinion! I can’t wait to watch it evolve into a hefty tool.
Totally agree 🤗 for sure they will add many many things in the future, I will have a close eye and try it again 🤗 I really liked the brushes:)
Anyone knows how to edit stonekey of a selection or level in Fresco?
I would like to make a rectangular selection or level (a picture from the Photos app) into a trapeze...
The top of the picture at 100% width and the bottom at 110, 115% width.
It's great that you did the work of exploring Fresco for us, so I don't have to deal with it at first, but will develope my skills on Procreate :-) many thanx:-)
Thank you so much Dorothee, I'm just sharing my experience, and I always encourage all to trying for themselves as we might see it different. For me Procreate has no contender so far :)
@@AsiaOrlando yes, of course ... but I totally trust you
Adobe user here, but I really dislike that the only option is subscription. Getting an iPad pro and looking forward to using Procreate.
Oh noo! But honestly I felt the same! Those brushes made me feel so excited and then it was very complicated to use and of course i want to adjust colors which was nowhere to be found. 😂 thanks so much for your honest opinion! So helpful! 😍
Yes, I agree. The brushes are really great. I think expectations were very high for this app and maybe that’s why we also feel a bit disappointed? I felt the lack of basic simple features like possibility of saving my own favorite color palettes. Thank you so much Danii for sharing your Fresco experience and nice words! :)
@daniela I felt exactly the same like you & I agree with @Asia Orlando too!
I would love to find an app, that let me draw vector characters, like it is possible in fresco. But in Procreate you cant draw vectors. So, both apps are missing some features for me.
Maybe Affinity has something in the middle, I need to try that one.
my thing too, i honestly thought i was missing something, but no, apparently, this vector art app can't be saved as a vector!! very weird.
It bothers me so much when companies act like they are giving you free stuff when it a part of a package you pay for....
Thank you for sharing!!!
i'd like to start making illustrations, i use photoshop with a screen tablet, but feels clunky and slow to switch from a tool to another (even tough i am now used to it) but the cost of an ipad is what's keeping me from buying one, also refurbed ones cost as much as new ones and it makes no sense.
Adobe Fresco's premium offering is included if you have the Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps plan
I think it's also important to note that Adobe Fresco offers vector drawing tools that procreate does not. This allows your art to be infinitely scalable without ever looking pixelated. Fresco's user interface is a little less intuitive, but that's because it's feature-rich- offering animation, live brushes that offer very natural blending, and of course vector artwork- none of which Procreate currently offer. It might be worth going back for a second review now that 2 years have passed. It was a very young software at the time of your review, and after listening to the community, it has continued to add updates that enhance user experience.
Yes definitely from the time of making the video it changed a bit, illustrator for iPad came out. But yet I still prefer Affinity Designer for vectors.
I use both Fresco and Procreate, and find both user interfaces equally useable. Useable, but different. Whichever app I am using, I find the other one a little weird when I first shift back and forth, but that quickly goes away; overall I find myself liking Fresco a bit better as it slowly improves and adds features such as easily useable sliders for hue, saturation and brightness; as you say, “A must-have,” that Fresco now’s has. The Real Oils brushes in Fresco are far superior than any available oil brushes in Procreate. The Multi-color eye dropper in Fresco is a HUGE advantage when painting with colors; the color blending possibilities are amazing. Both Fresco and Procreate are great apps, but as Fresco develops, it is slowly, in my opinion, gaining the upper hand in producing fine art in digital form. The future is exciting for both apps. I find myself rooting for Procreate, but using Fresco more and more as the superior tool.
This is awsome artwork, love it.
Thank you so much! :)
Did you have another look at Adobe Fresco in the meantime? I'm not an illustrator (or artist), but rather use Adobe Photoshop more or less on a daily basis (and a lot of Adobe Illustrator, but more in a technical than an artistical way), but I can relate to your preference of Procreate. Still, Procreate's selection tools are really bad (as far as I can make out, selections are always "hard", no anti-aliasing, and this is one of the reasons why the fill tool often leads to these white lines), and this is a hindrance for me. Maybe I should have a look on the current incarnation of Fresco (it is part of the Photographer's Bundle subscription that I use), but I might instantly miss some of Procreate's niceties (I like the interface - a lot) …
Hi, I haven’t to be honest, but I plan to do a new video about it soon
@@AsiaOrlando Today I had a look at ArtStudio Pro, and found the interface to be too complicated for my liking (says a seasoned Photoshop user 😂), even though it looks similar to Procreate.. And I had a look at the current Fresco version - it still seems to lack the features you mentioned (maybe because one could interchange PSD files with Photoshop).
You are absolutely right...Since I have corporate subscription from my company, that price didn't bother me...I loved the vast amount of brushes & the kaile brushes which are part of plan. But rest all frightened me seriously! 😂😂😂
Hi thank you so much! For sure they can work on those in the future 🤔
@@AsiaOrlando Yeah, hoping so!
Asia Orlando I changed my opinion about fresco after spending good amount of time working on it...now I am loving fresco more....!!!
Interesting :) I’m planning to give it another try but I’m also waiting for a few more updates 😊
my thing is that procreate creates vector art . . . . but can't be saved as a vector??!! i'm still not believing this, i'm going to migrate onto a tablet, am still only using my laptop with Photoshop/Lightroom subscription, i'm trying to work out what's the best tablet/best software, everyone says Procreate etc but i sell on Etsy, i can't only sell one size, and of course, if only pixels that means can't be resized. anyone got any tips? thanks
If you work on vectors then Procreate is not your tool, you can try Affinity 👍
@@AsiaOrlando thanks for your reply, I'll check that out, enjoy your day, bye
I tried it and what actually bothers me the most is the lack of different vector brushes. Pretty weak :/
So good to have your graphic designer’s point of view!😊 I liked many things about the software, the live brushes are AMAZING! and I liked a lot having the option of vector brushes at all. I don’t use them a lot so I can’t really refer to their diversity but for me the lack of hue/saturation bar is sadly a deal breaker😢 Id love to give the Fresco another chance after some updates.. I need to check the last ones though :)
@@AsiaOrlando I can imagine using it for (handmade) logo designs or future animated illustrations. But not sure yet.
Waiting for updates for sure is a good idea :). As I would mainly use it for vector graphics, the missing hue/saturation option is not too much of a dealbreaker as I could quickly edit it in Adobe Illustrator. But of course it would be a nice tool to have :)
100% Agree!
Adobe: _Splish splash, artist-financial-stability is trash_
lmao fact
I don't have an iPad and am unlikely to ever get one. I want something that has some of the features of Procreate but works in Windows.
You can work on Photoshop or Clip Studio Paint 🎨
I personally feel this way about procreate 😂 maybe I’m just a really slow learner and finds new programs really difficult, but it just doesn’t work for me 🤔 either way I’m glad you know what works best for you now! 👍
Totally ;) I will give it a try again for sure! I loved the way the brushes behaved, really amazing 😉
The procreate tutorials on here really helped me find all the things that aren’t clearly labeled in Procreate. Once I found everything, I really love procreate. Trying affinity photo and designer is almost making me cry. So frustrating!
I like Fresco better. I find with Procreate when you move things or even duplicate things, it gets really pixelated and it ruins the overall look. Also, Fresco has more brushes you can add that's free lol. But if you don't want to pay for Adobe Creative Cloud or even the program, Procreate is good. It's no the best, but it is nice. It just has that flaw, but maybe that could be fixed somehow.
Exactly the same experience.
For sure they will improve :) I did a follow up video on the best feature they gave .. the brushes :)
all adobe softwares are quite a learning curve. its frustrating but have to learn if u have to use them professionally
There’s no way in hell I’d waste my money on a monthly thing..I’ll stick with procreate..it’s better anyway in my opinion😂and it’s a one time purchase
I don’t own anything adobe, but fresco was free for me.
this is how i feel about photoshop. Too big a learning curve
At this point, I’d say its morally correct to pirate adobe software, they’re a bunch of predatory bastards and the grip they have on the market is worrying.
