We lost that long ago. The Rubicon was crossed over in 1865, and the sovereignty of the citizens over the government has been on a steady decline ever since. 1913, 1947, and 2001 are all significant dates if you want to chart the decay of the American republic. What comes next, only God knows.

The judges who made this decision were 7 US Supreme Court justices in 2013. Including Chief Justice Robert’s and Justice Scalia. The only 2 dissents were from Thomas and Alito.

Federal law says you have to be at least a naturalized citizen to vote. So, how can a law saying you have to be a U.S. citizen violate a law that says you have to be a U.S. citizen?

From reading the article it looks like they got it on a technicality. Technically a person's birthplace IS irrelevant on whether they are US citizens. Basically they have to change the law to a different wording for it to be legal. Shame Arizona missed this. My wife wasn't born in the US however she's been a US citizen since she was 12. The real problem is the previous lawsuit about requiring citizenship status. That one needs to be overturned. This one is a distraction.
Yeah idk why the Timcast people or anyone else reporting on this can’t do their due diligence. The proof-of-citizenship case happened in 2013, from the U.S. Supreme Court. And people have been complaining about Arizona’s weird proof-of-citizenship requirements for years, yet they never attributed it to SCOTUS, so most people have been and remain totally ignorant of it.

I think the court may have had to rule it this way because they didnt include the rest or the phrasing was too restrictive. We'd have to read the actual law to find out the specific reason why birthplace was rejected because on face value it is a requirement. On the other maybe the Judge needs to be unseated for gross negligence of the law can also be a possibility.

@@summer7603 Based on a news article, the ruling was not about the rejection of identifying legal americans, but rather all the proof and backgroundchecks that could be done. There is no need to list your birthplace or residence if you are a legal citizen, nor is it needed to perform regular backgroundchecks that you (still) are a citizen. And that seems right to me. You only need to prove it (once) when voting. No need to be reguraly harrased to proof you are still a legal citizen.
It's not about preventing illegal citizen to not vote, but how that's done. You need simple non-restrictive measures. Not invasive one.

This is how you know the country is phucked. All decisions are made on the side of political affiliation and not the constitution. Then, it's whoever has the majority in the Supreme Court. This will continue until we crumble completely (soon?) or we get them out (however it is necessary)

It's Federal court, state Supreme Court doesn't have jurisdiction of that.

I don’t think the Constitution actually requires that. It just requires that the voters in federal elections have the same requirements to vote as in State elections. Which the federal court ignored.
Here in Arizona, proof of citizenship is required to vote in all State and local elections, but the courts ruled it could not be applied in federal elections. That’s why we have “federal only” ballots for those who haven’t offered proof of citizenship.

I think it’s only if you enter the country illegally. If you fly here as a law abiding British citizen with a passport you will most likely be jailed. Because that’s how our system works.
You can try, but you probably still need to register and need ID for that. Also it might be voter fraud and going to a US prison i like really bad.
In Peru, the army comes out to protect the voting booths and you are required to present your ID to be able to cast your vote. It's insane that even developing countries have this and not here in America...

This is scary stuff. This has been the concern over the past few years. I am for people who are part of the country given every opportunity to vote, but that does require valid citizenship. Without this I may as well fly to Iran, France, England…and vote in their elections also.

As a German im am speechless. How can a country operate if you let non citizens vote. In Germany you get a letter wich is your voting permit. You have to present this letter and your state mandated ID. Otherwise you are not allowed to vote. It's just mind boggling that the US has no voter ID requirement.
The Democrats want to install true democracy and get rid of our constitutional Republic. Only way to do that is to win votes at all costs. Republicans will never get votes from non-citizens because Republicans are vehemently against it and vehemently against illegal immigration.

Modern requirements to vote in USA elections:
1. BE A USA CITIZEN
2. BE ABLE TO READ AND WRITE IN ENGLISH.

The judge(s) who decided this as well as the lawyers fighting for it must be arrested, immediately.
These judges swore by oath or affirmation to uphold the Constitution. Statutes do not trump what is written in the Constitution, therefore, these judges are violating their oath and are, in fact, committing Treason. According to the Constitution,it only takes two witnesses to be charged with treason.

No court can "Strike Down" long established constitutional law. Which is the supreme and legally recognized law of the nation, including Arizona.
Tell that to California and NY and Chicago and Portland and you get it...
