  • A great day hiking up to the 2nd meadow of Slough Creek. A stream with beautiful Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout with a mountainous backdrop. It is truly a gem of Yellowstone.
    Utilizing the Dry Dropper method was the ticket.

    I have fished that valley all the way to the park boundary. Fantastic place. I was lucky enough to to it before all the people found it. Back in the old days had the place to myself at times. Spent many nights there too with the wolves, bears, bison, coyotes and other things that speak in the night. I carry those memories with me always.

    One of the most beautiful places Ive ever been to fish. We caught big cuts rising to caddis most of the day. Got caught in a fast moving thunderstorm out in the middle of the meadow. Still makes me cringe. That snd the site of huge bear tracks along the river. Was thinking its 7 miles into the upper end of the second meadow. That was 25 years ago in my 40s. Id still like to try that hike.

      It's a heck of a neat area for sure! Been up there 3 times so far. Memories from all three! Weather can be crazy in Yellowstone! Thanks for watching!

    How far did you have to hike to get where you were? We’ve been to yellowstone for years every year but never been up slough that far.

    What wt rod were yall using? I'm thinking bout taking a 4wt out there

      @WildBlueDiscovery  Рік тому

      Thx for watching. I believe I was using a 10ft 3wt that is actually a little bit shorter because I had to repair the tip. It is a nymphing rod, that still works good for drys. Tightlines!

    Do you really need to use a dropper on slough? Should be drys only! The fish get abused enough as it is.

      A barbless ( or crimped) hook is a barbless hook...whether dry or nymph. Interesting enough, I have heard that dry fly fishing does more damage to trout overall. Tightlines.

      Doubtful... dry sets are almost in the rim of the mouth. Nymphs tend to be deeper in the mouth.
      The exception would be those that rip mandibles off somehow. 30+ years never have done that. It's just Slough us a very special place. And if you can't get them on drys oh well. I'm not a dfo guy but can't imagine fishing nymphs in the park.
